Okay first of all I did not try the food so I definitely wouldn’t know how it taste! but we did have reservations at 7pm on Christmas Eve… I made the reservations online and I even called the restaurant to make sure they were open on Christmas Eve… a guy answered the phone and told me yes they were open they were serving a pre fixed menu and their regular menu and not to mention he was very rude and almost had an attitude that he had to answer my question… so we are all excited and happy and jolly in the Christmas spirit we get there and the restaurant is closed! seriously? how do you do that to people? at least call and let us know you guys have no business or whatever the case maybe and your closing the restaurant… we traveled from Queens to the packed city just to not have anywhere to eat! HORRIBLE. will never ever try to do business with this ghetto restaurant again! and I’m only giving the one star because I have to in order to post this review! you get ZERO stars from me!

Underwhelmed and disappointed. Used a Groupon for 2 of us. Made a reservation earlier in the day and when arrived was told they had no record and they were only seating those with reservations. Made a fuss and was asked to wait at the bar for a few minutes but made to feel as if they were doing me a favor instead of acknowledging their mistake. Won’t get in to our specific food choices, suffice it to say this is the worst meal I have had in quite a while. I brought a friend from out of town and explained that we should have gone to a chicken and rice cart on the street which would have been better. Then at the end of the meal they bring you a bill and suggest the actual price was $ 250. Remember I am on a Groupon so we are supposed to tip on the meal’s total cost. I have no problem tipping but the service was poor AND there is no way ordering from the regular menu(There is a special prix fixe menu for Groupon) this crap meal would have cost that much. I use Groupon to sample restaurants I may have walked by otherwise. Sofia is one I should have continued to walk by and in a city with so many choices I beg anyone reading this review to do the same!

Food was mediocre. Came in here on a groupon. Wine wasn’t chilled. The mashed potatoes were awful. Our server we had was so rude all he kept saying was«yep» luckily he had a helper halfway through our meal who was attentive and got us refills etc. Wouldn’t recommended this nothing stuck out…

I am not sure if I can give a zero on Unilocal.I’m still looking in to it. If I can, I will downgrade from 1 star. Upon arrival, we were seated and rushed onto an order. I don’t know if he was a waiter or maitre d’ or a temp: but the man taking our order made it plain that he wanted one order quickly. OK: 2 calamari and a baked clams. Order taker leaves, comes back and says calamari is a little off, try something else. Huh? Ok. 3 baked clams. 40 minutes later, they arrive burnt and cold. There’s a skill to that, I’m sure. Kind of like torture is a skill, or yellow journalism. It’s not a good skill. Main course is just as cold and the wine by the glass takes of the cardboard box it came out of. Cold seems to be a leitmotif. They added 20% gratuity automatically without telling me to my party of 3. If I really had any interest in speaking further with the waitperson I might have become angry. Not worth it. I paid the blood money and left. Be warned: this is not a good choice. Run for the hills.

There are a few ways to run a terrible restaurant. You can serve bad food(considering price), provide bad service, and create a bad atmosphere. This restaurant managed to deliver on all three(actually, we walked out of the place before our entrees arrived so I suppose I’m not qualified to comment on the food, but given the experience leading up to that point, I’m pretty sure the food would have been bad). This restaurant seemed woefully understaffed. I got the sense that every qualified member of their waitstaff called in sick earlier that day. The ones who did show, seemed completely out of sorts. Once our table was ready, the host brought us to the back of the restaurant and sat us at a large round table equipped with a small empty bowl, and 6 pairs of flatware. There were no napkins, no glasses, and no menus. We waited 15 — 20 minutes to get menus, and another 15 — 20 minutes to order wine(we decided to order food and wine at the same time since we had no reasonable expectation of ever seeing our waiter again). As for the wine, we ordered a bottle of Cabernet that cost between $ 50 — $ 60. We were told they didn’t have that wine,(or any other wine we tried to order from the menu) So, the waiter suggested a substitution.(and by «suggest», I mean he plopped down a bottle of something called«The Great American Wine Company» on the table and scurried off. There was no wine opener, and all of the glassware on the table was filled with water). We did, finally get napkins. They were practically tossed at us unfolded, but at least we could avoid wiping our mouths with the tablecloth. It was at that point that we decided to leave. The food and wine were just too expensive to endure such a poorly run restaurant. Again, it was clear the staff was overwhelmed. I’ve been to restaurants in similar situations, and the good ones would express regret and would have been greeted with patience from us. This should have been be one of those times where management would send a free appetizer or a round of drinks on the house to thank us for understanding. What we got was an unopened bottle of wine we didn’t want, and the Great American Napkin toss. No.

The décor and building is nice The food is over priced, mediocre and served by pushy wait staff. On a Friday night most of the menu items weren’t available because they«were out» at 7:30PM. Further, we were rushed all night to order despite most tables being open and the fact that we had to keep changing our order. Creamed spinach, nope. Dover sole, nope. The $ 27 chicken scapariello was a slice of chicken breast baked? and sliced served with a thin lemon sauce. Nothing about it was scapariello. The burrata appetizer was two tablespoons of cheese and poor quality dried out prosciutto. Their drink menu was severely limited but at least the waiter spilled some of my wife’s wine on me without an apology. The best part of my meal was that the waiter smelled like he hadn’t showered since he bought his new spray on deodorant three weeks ago. There’s a Five Guys down the street. Reliable, affordable and honest. GO there.

Worst service. Waiter spilled a drink on me and I had a broken glass on me and waiter never came 2 clean it up. When I asked to speak to manager I was told no manager. Not 2 mention I am out of town visiting from dmv. I paid 47.00 for a meal that ended up in my lap.

Sofia’s Grill is an amazing establishment! Luis the waiter was great! He knew exactly what kind of meal I was looking for & had excellent customer service. If you want a perfect dining experience he’s your man! Sofia’s Grill has a variety in their menu & it is a spacious and beautiful place to bring any date or group of friends out to eat. I’ll be back for many times to come!

this review is for food only… I did take out. I love Italian restaurants… and this place’s menu does not disappoint! Lots of pasta dishes, chicken and pasta dishes, meatballs, calamari, salads and sandwiches. I had the lobster blt, which was served on toasted focaccia bread, like Panini style. I chose potato croquettes as my side and caprese salad as my starter. My sandwich was delish, nice size pieces of lobster, bacon, spinach and my fave… sun dried tomato. Bread was nice and toasty, really like this! Potato croquettes were good, nothing spectacular, but good crispy breaded fried potato. Negative: My caprese salad… which is supposed to be tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil, was missing the basil… if you anything about this salad… you know this is supa disappointing! Also somewhat unacceptable from an NYC Italian restaurant(especially when it mentioned it in the description in the menu) Price is average. Wouldn’t be opposed to trying some of there pasta dishes… saw a seafood pasta on the menu that caught my eye!

I went there with my team members for lunch. We arrived at 12:30pm and it was almost empty. We even thought the restaurant was closed at first, lol Everyone ordered the pre fix lunch. I had fried calamari for appetizer, salmon for entrée, and crème brûlée for dessert. The portion of calamari is big. After a few pieces of bread, I was almost full after I finished the calamari. The salmon was just ok. It’s very dry and almost plain taste. The crème brûlée was a little too sweet for me. They don’t accept AMEX card — that’s a bit surprising.

I’m only giving this place three stars based off of my initial impression walking into the building. We went on a Saturday night for Caribbean night the flyer advertise women free until 12AM. We ended up in front of the building around 11:42PM in which there was no line and a couple in front of us. In order to boost the ego of the club, the doorman made us wait outside for an additional 15 minutes which I have no idea why he did that because it was completely empty inside. then a few minutes before 12AM he decided to check our IDs we were still the only two people in line and we walked in. We get to the spot where we have to pay and the girls asking for a secret password that we supposedly got after RSVPing on the email address but we never got a email back with any type of password so I sent her the original email that we sent in order to get on the guest after that I was soon greeted by some aggressive bouncer woman who aggressively checked our Clutches I mean it was ridiculous how vigorously she was searching through my bag almost as if she thought we were carrying something after a good 30 seconds of her switching things around messing up my bag she finally gives the waves and we could walk in even though she failed to Pat us down to see if we were actually physically carrying any kind of weapon The music was good but the DJ was a little off there were times where he would cut off the song on the best part he would leave no music and there would be an awkward pause in between songs which I thought was a little annoying but the music selection was good Would I come back to Sofia’s? no there are way better Caribbean clubs in and around BK, and lower Manhattan

Terrible. Ooof. This place shouldn’t exist. Terrible service. Just terrible. Spent $ 2,000 and had to go find the waiter three times to get more drinks and water. Just terrible. Hopefully it’s gone soon so we can get some quality in Rock Center. Some people liked their meals but the veal was terrible. Just terrible. And the service? Just terrible.

Awful experience! The WORST in NYC. We are regulars at many steakhouses and restaurants in Manhattan and we were EXTREMELY disappointed. This trip was not worth it. Used a Groupon(spent $ 220 for a pre fixe meal for 4) and after a mediocre meal at best, they tried to charge us an $ 80 gratuity in addition to the tax! The wait staff was pushy and rude and we were made to feel like we were interrupting their evening. We were the only patrons at a table(3 folks were at the bar) and yet the service was slow and brash. Diner beware! Don’t waste your money here.

This was one of the more peculiar and dissatisfying restaurant experiences I’ve had. I can’t tell whether the people who’ve rated it highly on Unilocal were at a different restaurant, caught it on a better night, had a different chef or owner… We ordered a moderately priced bottle of white wine, only to find out that it was unavailable. We were offered the less-pricey«house» alternative — an acceptable wine, but nothing spectacular. My suspicions were aroused when I overheard the same thing happen at the next table, but involving a red wine. The food was nothing special. The olive oil for the bread was just that: olive oil in a dish. No seasoning, no nothing. I ordered the branzino, which looked quite good; I wound up switching dishes with another member of our party, who’d ordered the grilled tuna. The reason for the switch was the sauce covering the tuna, which looked like a standard Asian soy-orange but tasted like nothing but vinegar. A fantastic piece of tuna — really, close to sashimi-grade — ruined by a sauce that McDonald’s wouldn’t serve for McNuggets. I got a side of broccoli rabe that was bitter — sautéed so long that the garlic turned — and nearly inedibly salty. There were a few highlights: the pear and gorgonzola salad, which was wonderful. And the rice that accompanied the fish dishes. But when white rice rates a mention as a highlight, there’s something seriously inadequate happening in the kitchen. All in all, a strange experience. They clearly get good ingredients, but whoever’s running the kitchen doesn’t know what to do with them. And I’m suspicious about their wine cellar: either it’s very badly stocked, or they simply run a bait-and-switch to get you to buy the house wines. Save your money. At these prices, there are dozens of better Italian restaurants in Midtown. Or get on the train and go down to Little Italy. But skip Sofia Grill.

Great food, great service and great atmosphere! Was visiting new York City and was looking for a nice place to have lunch with the family(me my wife and two little kids). The place was very welcoming and the staff was very friendly. The food was amazing(even the pasta with the Alfredo sauce for the kids was unbelievable). We had the calamari the shrimp scampi and the filet mingion that was excellent, and to top all that we got The chocolate lava cake for dessert. Thank you guys for great experience.

This restaurant smells like a litter box. My salad was soaked in dressing to the point of inedibility. The Bolognese was outstanding. The people were nice. C+

As a week of vacation, our 8 year old son’s Christmas present, and a respite from the norm we ventured to NYC for Christmas. Prior to arrival we researched locations and talked to friends. We then found a Groupon for Sofia Grill and decided to bite! From the second we walked in and checked our coats to the overly generous portions our expectations were exceeded. Our server may have been one of the best ever and my husband who prides himself on knowing his beef, said best steak ever. Our son didn’t feel well mid way during dinner and they quickly boxed his food and even turned up the service so mom and dad could have an enjoyable time. I wouldn’t care the price, I would recommend the food and service here for any age, local or visitor, regardless of occasion. A must do for our family when in NYC! Many thanks for a special night! Well traveled and very impressed!

Nice place, nice people, OK food. The décor was cool, wooden and cozy; they had an upscale vibe that stopped at the restrooms, which had a broken lock, chipped paint, and poor lighting; I literally was stuck inside for a few minutes due to the broken lock issue. I had to send my drink back — a simple glass of pineapple juice — because it was fermented. Aint nothin’ worse than fermented pineapple juice y’all! They corrected my drink and things were looking up. The Food: –Calamari Fritti fried calamari in italian olive oil with a spicy tomato sauce(the calamari was awful but the spicy marinara sauce was amazing. I told the server to pack this in a doggy bag and then when I got home, I opened the container of sauce, only to discover the sauce they packed in the bag was KETCHUP! Who the hell eats calamari with ketchup? That is too ratchet for my entire life!) –Cozze Al Vino Bianco mussels in white wine, garlic and herbs(this was nothing special either) –Rigatoni Anna Francesca rigatoni with sauteed chicken and vegetables topped with mozzarella cheese(this was good) –Petto Di Pollo Marsala breast of chicken with mushrooms in a marsala wine sauce(this was good too) –Medaglioni Di Manzo Alla Lombarda medallions of filet mignon sauteed wit mushrooms & red wine, served with potatoes(the medallion was not flavorful) Overall, the place is OK but don’t come here for the restrooms and check your doggy bags before you exit the building!
