He food is below average and the staff is super slow and terrible. One of the staff there is very slow of serving food/doing the cashier, almost 5 – 7 minute, which without doubt will cause you to miss your train if you buy food there. Plus, he is very rude to customers: seldom looks at you and seldom speak. The only word he can speak to customers is probably«No». He makes you feel like they do not care you at all and never want to do business with you. Will never ever go to this place because it will easily destroy your excitement about the coming trip or add extra pressure on your way to work.

This was a great attempt at quick Japanese food. However the staff seemed to give little care for their customers. We ordered two bento boxes which they microwaved to lukewarm and a rainbow roll with spoiled fish. I get that takeout sushi is not going to be amazing, but had they maybe given some effort in prepping their food it would have been satisfactory. Just be weary of low quality food.

Convenient, fairly priced albeit a bit small portions, and fresh sushi. The staff are extremely polite and friendly. Shiro of Japan is in Grand Central Terminal so it is cafeteria style by nature and Shiro of Japan does a good job of quickly catering to customers with a smile. Depending on your order or request, the sushi can be made to order or pre-packaged, either way they are using fresh fish of a decent thickness. If you are nearby Grand Central, Shiro of Japan is an excellent grab a go lunch /dinner option.

I stopped by here because I originally wanted the Bento Box combo. I was interested in the Sushi but wanted a more substantial meal and the Bento Box seemed like it would deliver the best of both worlds… apparently they closed the kitchen down because it wasn’t making them any money. The sushi packaged sushi is better than most mainly because it’s fresh but it’s on the pricey side. I’d rather skip this place and get the lunch special from my place closer to home. For $ 10 I can get much more food and have a bento box combo if I choose.

Do not eat here! I tried this place for the first time and discovered hair in my food. I took it back after eating half a piece of chicken teriyaki and asked for my money back. The«manager» told me he couldn’t find the hair and asked if it was mine. I don’t have short black hair not did I appreciate him insinuating I’m lying. After giving me dirty looks he said they don’t make mistakes. I asked if he was perfect and he said yes obviously more than me. He continued giving me dirty looks saying it was nothing for them to give me my money back but there is no hair and I clearly made a mistake. He finally gave me my money back and threw my receipts at me. So I took his tip jar and threw it at them and warned those in line to check their food bc there would be hair in it.

This was just so wrong. The chicken had to precooked frozen strips with a lack luster sauce. I’ve never had caramelized onions in a teriyaki bowl before. The best thing was the white rice. How do you mess up teriyaki chicken.

So, the story goes: Shiro of Japan took over Masato… which sold horrendous sushi in the grand central, I didn’t realize until the owner of Shiro of Japan emailed me. I was told that they they replaced Masato and is making fresh sushi with good quality of fish… etc. I wasn’t willing to take down my review, but I said that I was willing to give it another try and to revise my review. So I came back to Shiro of Japan 3 different days this week to try different sushi, I had Volcano Roll, Chili Roll, Yellowtail Scallion, Spicy Tuna and something else that I forgot the name. I was even going to try their Teriyaki and Udon, but they only sell the hot dish till 6pm. And I have to say, I was very impressed with the taste and quality of the sushi Shiro of Japan managed to deliver in the Grand Central. Not only it was way better than Masato, it was actually very good… I guess much better than what I’d expect in a train station. Besides, the service is pretty good, every time I go this week, people were very friendly and it feels that they’d like to make it work. I hope they will continue keeping the standard. And I will certainly come back to try their Teriyaki and Udon soon!

We got sushi to go from here for dinner. They have pre packaged sushi that is fairly priced. I had the cucumber avocado roll and my boyfriend got the tuna roll. Both the rolls were good, not the most best that I have good but good enough if you want a quick meal on the go while you are at Grand Central. While the sushi is pre packaged, you can tell by eating it that it hasn’t been sitting out for a while.

If you like sushi, and are in GC, this is a great place to grab some. Likely there could be some hesitancy given it’s pre-package, maybe deli quality. It’s much better than that, probably best pre-package sushi in midtown. Very fresh ingredients. I’ve been patronizing this establishment for nearly ten years now, and it’s been quite consistent. I will say, the sushi options have broadened over this time period, the food quality has stayed very high, however, seems like the sushi pieces have gotten modestly smaller. I’ve had everything under the sun here. California, salmon and avocado, spicy tuna, lobster roll, shrimp tempura, eel and avocado(you get the picture). Very, very good stuff. All of it. The sea weed salad is quite delicious. The only hot food items I have ordered are the miso soup and the Udon noodles with shrimp tempura. Miso soup is pretty decent sized, good amount of ingredients including small mushrooms which is a nice touch. Udon is very tasty. Prices are not that bad, especially given the fish is pretty fresh.

I usually don’t go for quick, grab and go sushi places because of the lower quality craftsmanship and ingredients, but decided to break that rule for some sushi here. The line gets pretty long at lunch(30 people when I was there) but it moves very quickly; 2 min before I ordered, one more to get food and check out. I had the Track 2; 3 pieces each of California Roll, Tuna Roll, and Cucumber Eel Roll($ 7.5) My partner had the Cucumber Avocado Roll(~$ 7.0). Both were delicious; on par with mid-range sit-down sushi restaurants. The quality of the seafood was far better than I had expected and the rice was perfect. Good sushi requires good rice, this place had excellent rice. The price was not bad considering it’s in Grand Central and NYC in general. I would totally recommend it if you have a sushi craving while visiting Grand Central.
