This is our favorite comfort hand pulled noodle place hands down. Being Chinese, no meal is complete without vegetables, meat, and some sort of carb and their dishes do not disappoint. I normally get the pork bone«tong gu» hand pulled noodle soup with added fish balls(the yummy kind with meat inside). The soup comes piping hot and so tasty! Then we order a side of their steamed dumplings which is to die for. This is definitely the place to come on a cold winter day. They also do stir fried hand pulled noodles which is yummy and their knife cut noodles are delicious too!

I came here for dinner with a friend and shared the steamed pork dumplings, hand pulled noodles(plate, not soup) with roast duck, and the shaved noodles with roast duck. Then I tried the potato balls(with pork) from a neighboring table! The potato balls and dumplings were okay, just okay. But I loved the noodles. The hand pulled noodles were slightly thicker than spaghetti but were much more flavorful, while the shaved noodles were even thicker with a slight gummy chew. The bok choy and roast duck were tasty, but I’m a fan of the noodles.

Would you like a plate full of some of the best hand-pulled noodles you can get in Chinatown for $ 5 or less? Yes, you would. Go for the hand-pulled noodles, and get them on a plate, not in soup. You will not regret it.

I wish i knew how to hand pull noodles myself and get that amazing texture. They do it really well here. Food: –veggie and egg hand pulled noodles in soup: this has a mild broth and after eating a lot of other spicy foods before, this was a nice contrast. The fried egg was really good and crispy too. I personally think it was a little too mild for my palate BUT… we also ordered… –Fish balls!!: these fish balls have some other meat inside(pork?) and i had never seen that before. it was delicious! Eating these with the veggie egg noodles was perfect. price is great too

I almost don’t want to review this place because it will invite more people into this well kept secret. But like most people who like good food, I like to share my findings. $ 3 dumplings $ 5.50 hand pulled noodle soup $ 1 soda still under what you’re expecting to spend? Add an egg for $ 0.50 There. $ 10 meal. Delicious and filling.

Pretty bad, plenty of better choices in Chinatown. I really don’t care about rude people. As long as the food is good who cares. Not only is the food bad but this place thinks they’re doing you a favor by letting you pay them.

Oh my gosh, I love this place. First let me say this is the best peanut sauce noodles I have ever had, this is my hometown food, so I know I’m talking about, especially ask for rice noodles, you will be in heaven. I used to go to Super Taste across the street a lot, I still do, but I find it is always busy and seating is kinda limited, this place has twice as much seating and it is easy to miss because it’s half underground. I also recommend stir-fried house special noodle/hand pulled noodle, very tasty.

Incredible delicious hand-pulled noodles! I recently tried this place a couple of weeks ago after my Bikram Yoga class because the restaurant was pretty packed. I thought, «Wow,“then I started going back like 4 times a week, even though it took me like 10mins to walk there from LES, hahahaha! What I’ve tried so far : –Ox tail hand-pulled noodles –Pork bones hand-pulled noodles –Fried duck hand-pulled noodles –Hand peeled noodles with fried duck –Dumplings They are all very impressive. It really tastes like the chefs put their hearts into making this«Not Little» bowl of noodles!!! :D I highly recommend adding a fried egg on top of the noodles and putting on some of their«Homemade Spicy Sauces» along with their«Traditional table wine» as well(ask the cashier if you can’t figure it out)! My very favourite quick bite spot in Chinatown now!!!

Went here based on other Unilocal reviews. The food was mediocre. The noodles didn’t look or tasted like they were hand-pulled at all. We got the fish ball noodle soup and beef fried noodles. They both tasted okay. Nothing special. We also got the steamed dumplings which also tasted okay. There def are better noodle/dumpling restaurants around NYC that I’ve been to compared to here. Maybe the atmosphere affected the dinner mood too? There were a whole bunch of kids around middle school age running around in the restaurant yelling and playing with each other. They seemed like they were kids of the cooks in the kitchen. It’s Chinatown. I wasn’t looking for a nice quiet candlelit dinner but nonetheless it sucks when you have 5 kids running around shoving each other while loudly laughing and screaming.

This was our secret hand pulled/knife cut noodle place for years. We’ve been frequenting this place since it opened and before it expanded to what it is now. It’s a hole in the wall but consistently serves the best. Before they gave even more bang for the buck with a fish ball in every noodle dish but they’ve been paring it down. Get a fried egg or soy sauce egg added to any noodle dish– it’s worth it. The steamed dumplings are also great. We see them on occasion making them out in the restaurant.

I came here to specifically try their peel noodles, which were very good but I don’t think I’d come so far again to try them. Definitely fresh!

In my past visits, I have tried their noodles both in broth and pan-fried and they are among the best I have ever had. The restaurant itself is very unassuming, as it descends into ground and can be easily missed if walking too fast. Its placard is really hard to see when I stand in front of the place, so for a period of time I had no idea of what this place is called. But anyway, just like other 10+ noodle shops in this area, it provides a good variety of options coming in different varieties of customizations such as noodle types, preparation, etc. Food is always hot and fresh. Noodles are chewy and broth is among the most flavorful I have ever had. Portion is generous; they give you a huge slab of noodles and lots of ingredients alongside. People who run the place are friendly and efficient in getting and bringing out your order. Would recommend!

I had begun to think, that I would never again find that steaming hot bowl of noodle soup that I bury my face into, and not even bother coming up for air until all the noodles and broth are gone. Trust me. I’ve been on the hunt. I even traveled across the country to eat my way through SoCal’s most popular noodle soup joints… and none of those were as satisfying as my Beef Stew/Tendon Peeled Noodle soup at Sheng Wang. I can barely remember the last time I had such umami enjoyment… Probably not since my very first bowl of Totto Ramen back in 2010! Open until 11 pm, so strolled in at 10:30, and were the only two people in the larger-than-most-Chinatown-noodle-joints dining room. The remaining staff were three bickering biddies, one of whom was nodding off half the time at her hostess station — AHH just like China! I felt right at home. Cardinal rule of thumb of Chinatown dining: expect the absolute minimum level of service possible, and you won’t be disappointed. The menu is HUGE. Encompassing soup noodles AND stir-fried noodles, with toppings ranging from the traditional beef, to rabbit and goat! Yes, it may be a bit intimidating, but hopefully this review will help you narrow things down. Ordered: — the Oxtail soup hand pulled noodle: the broth had such DEPTH! Complex flavors, and you could almost feel the nutritious powers of the oxtail flowing through your body with each sip! — Beef stew and beef tendon peeled noodle: So this isn’t actually on the menu, I ordered the tendon and then added the stew(niu jing & niu nan). A TOTALLY different broth than the oxtail, but just as complex and flavorful! Yes, there’s probably enough MSG to tranquilize a horse, but hey — YOLO. I personally love when my peeled/knifecut noodles are thinner and soak up the flavors of the broth more. I think that if you’re someone who prefers more chewy noodles, you’ll have to give them some direction. I added a bit of their absolutely terrific homemade chili sauce. It’s very spicy, and adds yet another level of depth to all the flavors. –Fishballs: we ordered a side of fishballs which came in yet another flavorful but light broth. Overall, the key to a quality noodle soup experience is the broth, and Sheng Wang definitely delivers on the broth. Unlike many similar establishments, they don’t just have one base broth and add different toppings, rather each dish had its own unique and flavorful soup! All the soups weren’t just watery imitations of a bone broth, but rather heartier, doing an impressive job of holding in all the variety of flavors. They also seem open to customization, both with combining toppings, and of noodle style direction, so I would suggest giving direction on how chewy you like your noodles or how well done or how thick, so that it suits your own tastes! Will definitely need to come back to try the dumplings and non-soup noodle dishes!

Great noodle place right in Chinatown on canal street just east of the Manhattan bridge. Try the beef noodles either soup or fried. The soup is great for winter if it’s warm get the fried. Great size meal for a fraction of the normal price.

Not good. La Mian is super mediocre. I can make better noodle. Served in a questionable metal bowl. Beef was not fresh. No service. :/

You know it’s not a good place when there is no way in but the family. I went against my gut feeling and decided to eat here for dinner after a long day of shopping. The reviews for this restaurant are up and down but I wanted to try this place because of the Buzzfeed article. Order the hand pulled noodles because I preferred them over knife peeled noodles often time. Tried the fried beef option since it seem like a safe choice. Which it was… luckily. Served on a Styrofoam plate, my steamy hot plate of noodles, piled on with eggs, beef and plentiful of bok choy. I was hungry, took my first bite and was a BITDISAPPOINTED. It taste like MSG and oil with chicken bouillon powder, maybe just a bit soy sauce. The beef was good and so was the egg but I just felt like I ate a whole thing of MSG(and I love msg!) but I felt gross afterwards Btw, I ate in and the menu prices were whited out! My plate cost me $ 7, more than what super taste across the street cost!

I’m not a fan of fish balls. They are squishy and I don’t like the feeling of biting into them. Not to mention they are utterly devoid of flavor. But, so many people recommended the fish ball hand pulled noodles, so I ordered it against my better judgement. ANDBOYWASITDELICIOUS. The kicker is the meat inside the fish ball, making it flavorful, moist, and tasty. I devoured all the fish balls.(Can you imagine how a person would feel if they actually enjoyed fish balls? They’d probably just jizz all over themselves.) The noodles were of course fantastic. And the bok choy was fresh and crispy as well. And $ 5? Yes please! The location is the only reason I docked a star. It’s on the other side of Manhattan Bridge, which is the sketchy half of Chinatown. If there were triads, they’d be chilling here. Also, the pipes on the ceiling where we were sitting was covered in orange goo. It was filthy and disturbing and don’t look up – just eat the noodles.

Hand pulled noodles — YES. It was such a great deal. About $ 5 for a plate of freshly made noodles with veggies. And they were delicious. I was on an informal Chinatown food tour and our guide highly recommended the place. I agree, it should be on any Chinatown food tour. I love how it’s authentic and a bit of a hole-in-the-wall. Saw them hand making the dumplings too, so you know it’s freshly made(not frozen). I want to go back soon. Getting hungry thinking about those noodles. Next time, I want to try the«shaved noodles.» Not quite sure yet what they are, but sounds good.

I tried the #1 hand pulled noodle with house special soup($ 6), which comes in a metal bowl the size of a small sink. The noodles were wonderfully chewy, tasty, and perfectly cooked. The broth, although rich in color, was pretty bland. I suggest you add hot sauce and mustard greens to it. The soup came with pig tripe(a lot of it!), beef tendon, a hard boiled egg, a fish ball stuffed with pork, and a single tiny slice of meat. Excellent value for money, but not the most flavorful hand-pulled noodle soup I’ve ever had. The knife peeled soup with pork chop had more flavor and had an earthy spicy kick to it, but the noodles were overcooked and limp. And who likes a limp noodle? Perhaps the dish I enjoyed the most were the steamed dumplings[1], 10 for $ 3: the skin of the right thickness, and packed with flavor. They’re also sold as bags of frozen dumplings at $ 9⁄50 pcs; I would definitely come back to get a couple of bags of these tasty babies. — — — — — - [1] I think they were actually boiled.
