Very fast service and cool vibed environment. Ordered a chicken bowl with guac, special sauce and rice for takeout during lunch and I waited less than 5 minutes for my meal to come out. Only wish the portions were a bit larger but other than that great food:)

I don’t know much about authentic Hawaiian food, but I love Shaka. They use fresh ingredients and you can definitely taste the difference. My favorite is the moa moa chix bowl, even though it has an embarrassing name. I just wish they didn’t charge a delivery fee on top of the tip– I hate when places do that.

If only every restaurant had the same mentality. Completely plastic free, all natural, delicious and affordable. Everything you would want from a restaurant. I appreciate the business model.

Shaka Burrito is one of my go-to spots near my apartment. The food is Mexican with a Hawaiian twist. The prices are comparable to Chipotle, however the ingredients are more fresh and the food is tastier. My favorites are the Baja Bowl and Waikiki Chicken quesadilla.

Almost empty at 7pm on a Saturday night and I waited 25 minutes for my shrimp quesadilla. After 21 minutes I asked the waiter about my meal — he told me shrimp is freshly cooked and takes extra time. After waiting all that time, the dish is practically inedible. Disgusting

While I wouldn’t call it authentic by any means, it was tasty. I had the shrimp burrito, which was interesting and flavorful. They also have Boylan sodas on tap, so you can refill your root beer to your heart’s content. It’s actually pretty righteous. The vibe is also pretty cool, with surfing videos playing in a loop contributing to a nice ambiance. Staff is accommodating and friendly, and the price is right. Only negative(at least from my perspective), their guac could stand an upgrade. It’s kind of flavorless.

The Waikiki burrito is AMAZING. I think their delivery prices are a bit excessive. It ends up costing almost twice as much for the same thing. Laziness has a price. The food is fantastic and fresh! And now I’m really craving a burrito… definitely try it out!

It really has a image problem. As the décor and name hints it’s a hawaiian spot. But no loco moco or spam masubi in site. The menu is full of mexican items. False advertising if you ask me. A bit overpriced for a fast food joint and the food was underwhelming. Had the moa moa bowl and the food to me was flavorless. Average ingredients and cooked up ok but it just didn’t have any flavor. Some salt or seasoning with a good sauce would be great. Ample space to sit and have your food with average service. Probably won’t be back.

This place is amazing! The service is awesome, they are friendly, and the foods never let you down. The place is clean and the price is reasonable, not that expensive. I order quesadillas most of the time. Absolutely somewhere to cross by for a fulfilling snack!

Probably decent for a quick snack, but not worth how long the food took to come out. We waited for over 10 minutes for a grilled chicken rice bowl and two grilled chicken tacos. There’s freshly prepared and there’s just plain took too long. The pineapple on the tacos tasted as if it had come from a can. While I liked the décor, which did feel like the inside of spongebob’s pineapple, I won’t be going back.

Shaka is a great take out spot for mexican style food with a hawaiin twist! The big kahuna burrito, steak tacos, chicken tacos, and veggie tacos are all delicious for lunch or dinner. All entrees come with chips and salsa as well– which is a nice touch. The salsa is some of my favorite out there — it is very layered with flavor and a unique mix of spicy and sweet. Prices are a little higher than I like to see for this type of cuisine. As far as the dine in experience goes, the atmosphere is very cute and the big fish tank in the middle of the restaurant is fun to watch. They have a boylan soda fountain which is unique. One strange thing I found is that they will not give you a cup for tap water if you dine in.

This place is essentially a Hawaiian version of chipotle. They offer rice bowls, burritos, quesadillas, and salads. I was debating between a dilla and rice bowl, and went with the fish rice bowl because it was a busy day and I wanted the extra protein for energy. This bowl had tomatoes, avocado, and pineapple and I added cheese for .60 extra. The fish was good but VERY skimpy portions. Unfortunately the avocados were not ripe at ALL. I thought the interior of the place with the fish tank was sick, and they have an acai beverage in the cooler that I love!

3.5STARS PROS: — Mahi Hawaiian Burrito [$ 9.95] — I loved that it included avocado and pineapple. Delish. The Mahi Mahi however was a little on the dry side but the sauce helped. This also comes with chips and salsa. 4STARS — Service was quick for pickup. — Order online with Chownow. 10% off. CONS: — Salsa — BLEH! I don’t know what they used to make the sauce but it was not good at all. Tasted a little fishy or something but it was definitely bad salsa.

Arrived at 7:55 on a Sunday night, probably 4 other patrons in the restaurant. It’s 8:16 pm and my dad and I are still awaiting for our two burritos(1 each). Either this place is understaffed or management needs to train their employees better regarding efficiency. It’s now 8:18PM. We’re still waiting…

Well this was a great day. I walked a little far in my lunch to make this happen, but I was OK with that. I ended up heading to third street where I could see the bright colored building. It was Sooo Adorbs inside and out. Now to order., I had NOOO clue so it took me a few mins! I finally decided pineapple, BBQ sauce, chicken, coconut. I can’t go wrong with this. Sounds amazing!!! Ahhh In fact it seemed ideal, then I took a bite… It was perfect! The flavors, cheese and the pineapple was all perfectly blended and the taste was just something different! I don’t like the same thing over and over! It has sour cream, hot sauce, and salsa. It was served with chips on the side. The chips and salsa was great! I ate those pretty much first and then the burrito. I loved it. I will defiantly be back here. If your in the area(gramercy, east side(23rd) area please stop by! Lots of options and this places is a gem! If your in NJ many spots there too!!! Enjoy.

The food here is delicious. My first time at Shaka was in Long Branch, NJ last summer. It was great. The décor takes you back to the Hawaiian Islands. The staff are friendly and the orders are filled in a timely manner. The mahi mahi burrito was so yummy. The mahi mahi was delicious and cooked to perfection. The food was fresh and light. The burrito comes with chips and salsa. Oh so good. I loved the food so much I took a menu and noticed that they had another location in NYC. Score. So I went to 23rd St location and tried the baja burrito bowl with chicken. Omg was it amazing. The baja burrito bowl had shredded coconut, rice, beans and salsa. Ive been to Shaka four times and counting. Definitely try the Hawaiian inspired food, fresh and delicious.

*** Delivery Service Review *** I was very impressed by Shaka Burrito. The service was quick and efficient as well as the order process. I was even more impressed by the quality of the food when it arrived. It was very delicious and worth the money spent(including the delivery tip). I plan to make a visit to their restaurant soon!

I was really sad when I found out that the Shaka in Long Branch closed that I actually cried cause I have so many memories there. I decided to go to the Shaka on 23rd St. to check if it was just as good. The manager, Carla, was super nice and she empathized with me how about how sad it was to have Shaka on the beach close. Shaka is a nice break from Manhattan with its Hawaiian tiki themed interior with surf boards and huts everywhere. They give you a student discount(10%).The food here is excellent, has lots of taste, and is a huge portion. Also as a Shaka lover for a long, it can depend on what you order that can make or break your 1st experience– I definitely recommend getting a burrito, quesadilla, or a burrito bowl(make sure they fill it up) that would be the best bet for your price. I definitely think that the portions are very generous for the price, plus you get a side of chips with salsa as a plus! For this particular trip, I got the Waikiki quesadilla which was out of this world, it was made with chicken with Jack cheese, onions, bbq sauce, big chunks of pineapple, and shredded coconut. I also recommend Dukes Chicken burrito, Pipeline Beefbowl, Big Kahuna burrito as well. Cannot wait to go back!

A Hawaiian-mexican spot which is best for chilling and casual meals. Food still needs work though… they’re a little stingy with portions, hoping that rice will make up some of the missing bulk. I had the makaha fish bowl with tilapia and the temperature could’ve been a lot hotter and the bowl more flavorful. Thin fillets of tilapia, very small pieces of diced mangoes, onions, and peppers, flanked by a couple slices of avocado and finished with an unappetizing pineapple purée. It wasn’t the most expensive lunch I’ve had but not filling in the least… Also, my tongue is tingling and I don’t know from what…

Fantastic, fresh, yummy, healthy alternative to Chipotle. The burritos are pressed on a toaster and stuffed with yummy goodness like fresh corn, guac(no extra charge), grassfed beef, chicken, salsa, black beans, cheddar, and pepper jack. You also get chips and salso(no extra charge!). I had the Big Kahuna that had ALL the aforementioned goodness $ 10. Very fun environment inside… beachy Hawaiian surf vibe with alot of attention to limiting carbon footprint with their bamboo walls and repurposed washing machines used as recycle and trash receptacles. If that wasn’t enough, they have great oldies playing, a nice staff, good location, and plenty of seating.

Hawaiian-Mex fusion? I’ll take it! — Good non-GMO food, big portions. I had chicken rice bowl, my friend beef quesadilla, we’re both full & happy — cute Eco-conscious décor, and I’m so glad they seem to actually recycle !(unlike most other places that only have that token recycle bin) — clean and spacious with a lot of seating — clean fishtank with cute little fish — friendly staff — play good music(and by that I mean Stevie Wonder) Ô Shaka, We approve of thee !
