Sandy Salon no longer exists, but come check it out anyway because it’s now Word Up Community Bookshop, a 100% volunteer-​run-​non-​profit space for (mostly free) community events and affordable books!

the people are here very nice, but they speak Spanish and only speak little English, they wanna share there stories with you but can’t communicate lol. My barber works here, he takes his sweet time to give you the best haircut possible. There’s nice music in the background. And the place is nice and clean.

When I was a little girl I hated brushing my hair. I still kinda do. I like getting pretty but I don’t want to hear people going on and on about their baby daddy drama. I just can’t take it! I love gossip, probably more than most people, but I enjoy quiet when I’m getting my hair did.
That’s why Moños is great! You get the Dominican salon without having to take the rollos out of your own hair.
And I have to add: best.wax.ever.

This salon, also known as Moños, is what every Dominican salon should aspire to be when they grow up.
Do you remember that thing called service? It seems to have become an albatross in most other places. Well, not at Moños. Not only are they polite, and efficient (with a computerized database and stuff) but they’re also FAST. Not to mention the women working there don’t spend their time on their cellphone while they work on you, AND they actually look happy to work there! Frazzled by the day ahead/​behind you? They’ll serve you tea, coffee, or wine and chat you up softly to get you to relax. I’d like for you to try to find those qualities together in any other Dominican salon. Yes, I’m serious, go ahead and try *throwing gauntlet*.
When you’re done not finding anything, you’ll be happy to know that the stylists here are really competent, as are the manicurists. Aside from myself, 2 other people I know directly frequent this place. Their hair is very different from mine, and from each other’s, and they would rave about it too if they were here. But they’re not, so they sent me. They offer waxing services too, as well as massages and facials. I haven’t tried them yet, but given the level of service here, I am confident that I will try them soon… And so should you!
