I love the front of house/hair washer. She was amazing and made me feel so welcome. However, when it came to the actual service. Perhaps because I got a promotion, the stylist was rude and unfriendly. I really liked everything else about the salon, but she made me feel very uncomfortable about returning. She also made me feel bad for not having cash on me and was rude when I said I had to run around the corner to get the cash because she couldn’t wait 3 mins. As I was returning to the salon I saw her walk out — wow talk about impatient. I guess she just didn’t want to get a return customer. I would be open to another hair stylist, but feel weird about going in and asking for someone nicer/better. UPDATE: I went back in to ask about another hair stylist and the manager apologized profusely for my treatment. He provided me with his name as well as the owner’s and offered me to come back for a hair cut on them with the owner. I was very overwhelmed with how accommodating and apologetic they were and will try to go back and try out another stylist as I was assured this was not a normal experience here.

Unbelievable! I have lived in city now for 25 years plus and have never been disrespected or spoken to the way the main manager did to me today. I walked by given that I work up the block and needed a last minute haircut after work. He quoted me 75 dollars for a wash cut and dry but would honor the 15% discount his salon offered me months prior. He said there are deals on other days for less without a blow dry but not today. When I showed up for my appt I asked a new guy at the register if I could skip the blow dry since it was raining and if it would cost less. He didn’t know but I was stupid enough not to make sure. They speak over you with thick French accents and are far from accommodating. The hairdresser Samantha was much nicer, talks a lot and I was content with my quick cut and air dry. When i went to pay the original man at the front was there and said 75 dollars please. I said wait I didn’t get a hair dry he said this is not a barber shop it’s a salon. All places are the same around here and it’s ridiculous to assume a Monday special would be honored on. Thursday. I said please let me speak I’m not asking for that deal but I assumed that just a cut wouldn’t cost the same. I don’t even care but his response was so aggressive and condescending. Had he said sorry for the misunderstanding we can offer you a free blow dry another day or even Samantha can do your hair now I would have felt better. I will NEVER go back here and sense they are intentionally unclear with their price structure. If you want to be pampered and treated special do not step in. There’s a reason why they have so many specials here. I hope Samantha finds a new salon as she’s terrific! Thank you for ruining an otherwise good day! Since this review was made the salon reimbursed me a portion of the charge of 34 dollars to make things right. I appreciated the gesture.

Steven has been my stylist for 7 years now. He is a magician with color! He has been doing balayage on my hair for the last six years with a light brown base and blonde highlights. Occasionally we mix it up and throw in a few purple strands. He is the ONLY person I will ever let touch my hair. I’ve been to Eva Scrivo, Warren Tricomi, MudHoney, and a list of other salons when Steven has been out of town and always disappointed with the results. I’ve learned to be patient and wait until Steven returns to work his magic. I will follow him to the end of the world wherever he shall go. He is my hair husband.

This place is to AVOID!!! The only good reviews are made by the manager itself It was amazing a couple years ago but now it sucks, products are cheap, the management sucks, prices are made depending on the brands you are wearing so come with a pyjama ! Or say you come from the Frenchy and you ll have a 70% off reduction. Absolutely ridiculous.

I had a pretty good experience here– came in for a haircut and conditioning treatment and thought Shane did a great job. The champagne and chocolate they were offering was also a plus!

I do not know how this place has two and a half stars. I walked in at 8:40, five minutes before the closed(they closed at 8:45 because of construction), and begged my way into getting a haircut. The lady was from France, with nearly 20 years of experience. Clydia was her name, I think. She was very friendly, and took the time to wash my hair, dry it, and put a lot of effort into my cut. We did the haircut despite the distracting(and very loud) construction going on right next to us. I ended up leaving after 9:00. I’m very satisfied. This is going to be my go-to place in NYC for haircuts. Bonus: It was $ 30 intsead of the usual $ 50 for today, for some weird reason. Thanks, Clydia!

Do not go to this place! I had been here once before for the flash highlights. They did an ok job for a cheap price to get a touch up in between full head highlights. I wasn’t entirely happy with it but the best you can expect for a cheap place. I came back a second time 8 months later and the place is under new management! They told me my hair was too long for a flash highlight and that I would have to pay double the price! When I tried talking to the manager and stylist about it the stylist stormed off and refused to even take me as a client. The manager then told me I could wait an hour for the next stylist and pay triple the price if I wanted to stay. he told me this is the way things are now that the place is under new management! It was terrible customer service and the place isn’t even good. This is probably the reason it is always empty. I do not know how they stay open especially with these types of rude people working for them. You can get much more for your money elsewhere!

My first warning should have been my stylist’s own haircut, which looked like crap. I went for it anyway, enticed by the $ 29 special.(By the way, I was offered a blowdry and was smart to ask how much it was. Would have been $ 50 extra!!!) Sadly walked out with a horrible cut that will take awhile to recover from. Uneven, choppy, just really bad.

Had the worst hair cut I’ve ever experienced here. I asked for a trim and suddenly she was putting layers in my previously layerless hair. She took out so much of my already fine hair that it lays completely flat shaker my skull. I will never go back. If you want a stylist that won’t hack giant holes in your hair don’t come here

I have easy hair. It’s thick and straight and dark, and I don’t color it and I don’t have«issues,» so I can basically get a good cut anywhere. What I like about Salon De Quartier, though, is that the people who work there are really nice. I was greeted with a cappuccino. The receptionish entertained my daughter, who would have been happy reading to herself. And then they cut her bangs for free. I only get my hair cut about once a year, so I don’t have extensive contact with the salon, but I would definitely go there again. I was very happy with the cut, and the personable service I got.

This is the worst salon I have ever been to. Basically the stylist– if you can even call him that did nothing. The haircut took a total of ten minutes never asked me what I wanted. I will never go back. A five year old could have given me a better haircut. Do not waste your money. Mone was the stylist I visited the 2nd ave location.

I am now a brunette again– no thanks for 5th ave beauty who botched my hair, but to the wonderful stylist Jessica at Salon De Quartier. I came in here on a whim, which just about proves how desperate I was to get rid of my orange roots. I asked initially for a consultation and was really impressed when I got fit in for an appointment almost immediately. I told Jessica exactly what I wanted, and it was exactly what I got. She throws in good tips too while shes working as far as good oils, conditioners, etc. Really friendly staff, excellent atmosphere, and very moderately priced. I will surely return!
