Ryan/Adair Community Health Center

I’ve only been to the Thelma Adair center for dental care and I was well taken care of so I cannot speak to the other services they offer. From what I remember there are some stairs that you must walk down to enter the building and I do believe there is an alternative accessible entrance.
The facility is *very* child friendly at various hours of the day. Although child friendly it is very clean and sterile. I chose to go to the Adair Center when a friend suggested I go when I expressed a desire to have a dentist who is a person of Color. All of the staff are people of Color, which I really loved. The assistants and clerical/​medical records staff are pleasant and professional. They are helpful with completing forms and are honest about prices and cost and what insurance will/​not cover. They will work with patients to go on a payment plan if needed.
I’ve visited for cleaning and check ups, but have also had 3 wisdom teeth that were needed to be pulled. As this is an out-​patient facility they can only offer a certain amount of anesthesia. I was able to get one wisdom tooth taken out but the other 2 I had to be referred to Harlem Hospital to have removed as I required more anesthesia. The dentist and assistant working with me were honest, thoughtful, and patient. When I had to be referred to Harlem Hospital the dentist on staff called a friend/​colleague they have there to help expedite my visit.
Prior to heading to Harlem Hospital one wisdom tooth was pulled out and when I asked to keep the tooth I was first told that for sanitary reasons they don’t allow this. When I shared that I wanted to keep it to place on my alter for spiritual practices/​purposes the assistant knew what I was referring to and shared that my request was a common one for folks of my belief system. I was able to leave with the wisdom tooth. I had a similar encounter with a nurse at Harlem Hospital.
Overall, I recommend this facility. I only gave it 3 stars because of the out-​patient needs I had but I have confidence when I need to return to a dental provider this will be one of the first locations I consider.
