I have been in here three times now while visiting from out of town. I love feeling lost in a wonderland of beauty supplies. I hold a cos license, so let me just get that out of the way, I chose Ricky’s because sometimes it is fun to play the unassuming patron, and because it was located close to where I was staying. No greeting. Icy cold stares. Once in 3 visits I was asked if I needed help finding anything. i politely declined because I do know what I am looking at/for, but that was where any customer interaction began and ended. It seems they follow you around more because they are thinking you are stealing, rather than to be available to help. Here is a clue, there probably ARE people stealing from you while you follow around the people who aren’t. My advice would be to invest in a better surveillance system and perhaps some customer service training, rather than relying on these nasty hires treating everyone like they are unwelcome guests. The best was when the cashier said nothing to us except«Do you want a bag?» when I was purchasing about 7+ items of varying sizes. I have a very small purse, I had no existing bags I was carrying on my person. i was wearing skinny pants. I felt like responding«Hey, no, no, I would really prefer to walk down the street and juggle this stuff because I am practicing for the circus.» Of all the service you can provide, you reserve your morsel of faint, disinterested, unappreciative dialog to ask if I prefer the one thing I obviously require? I left feeling like a Central Park squirrel would have been a better hire. I had purchased a bottle of Essie at 50% markup on cost price and got it back to my hotel only to find that it was thick and gloppy, it also bubbled. Fresh bottles of polish do not do this. My advice? As a pro, I would prefer non-pro choices over the apathetic«service» and old product you’ll find at Ricky’s.

STAFF? Disgusted. Your not greeted at all, asked if you need any help, absolutely nothing. The workers are on their cell phones talking about their personal drama in front of you at the register. On the floor. Staff is putting on make up and questioning what their gonna try on today. NOBODYNOTICEDMEAND A GROUPOFFRIENDS. I dropped everything I needed and headed somewhere else. Ricky’s lost me as a customer.

This review is for Hugh the store manager, who like many other Unilocalers here have complained about. He is the rudest person I have ever met not only in customer service but in life. The guy does not give a SH-about anything or anyone. He walks around the store with an attitude and never smiles. When people ask him for help he doesnt look at them in the face and will barely mumble a response and point his finger on where they should go. He was incredibly rude to me when all I did was ask a simple question. I told him he was rude and he said«i really dont care what you think». This person should not only never be a manager of ANYTHING but should not work in customer service of any kind. With all the complaints about him I don’t understand how he still has this job. I live very close to this rickys and I will now go to the 74th st location. I love Ricky’s so someone please spare all of us and get rid of this guy. I am now one of five of friends who have stopped going to this location bc of him.

Doesn’t even deserve one star. I stopped in yesterday to purchase a product and two employees were chatting. I guess my question was an inconvenience as I had to Interrupt to ask about a product. Sorry to bother you Mr Bow tie. I know it was an imposition of me to ask you to help me make a purchase. Not to worry I will never do it again.

This review is actually for Sharon at Revolver Salon. Sharon is the mad scientist of hair dye. She worked her gradient cylinders, mixing bleach and fantasy color concoctions to turn my deforestation of locks into a tropical rainforest full of luscious green flora. Yes, I wanted my black hair green. If you’re going through a break-up, got fired from your job, or want to bring out your inner rockstar, and need a new ‘do, I suggest you try this salon out.

I’m usually a big fan of Ricky’s and find the staff relatively friendly and helpful however my most recent experience changed my mind. I went to buy some hair color products, the same products I have been buying at this same store for years. The brand I use involves 3 products — the actually color, the clear shine and the color infuser. You don’t actually need the clear shine as part of the color system, but I like this added product and the amount that you are supposed to use for each of these 3 items is listed on the back of this one product. The store seemed to be out of the clear shine. I went to ask the Ricky’s staff person about it and she insisted that 1) they never sold this product and 2) that this product doesn’t exist. She then called over the colorist(something new at Ricky’s as they now have someone working in the back of the store coloring people’s hair) who, in a very hostile manner, told me that they never sold this product and that I shouldn’t be using a product like this anyway to color my hair(I can’t agree with this one since, as stated earlier, the directions to color your hair are on the back of this bottle, and obviously include this product). I don’t expect everyone in Ricky’s to know every product that is/was sold there but I definitely did not appreciate their attitude. Their attitude resulted in me walking out of the store without buying anything.

PEOPLE! Stop going to Drug stores for your cosmetic needs! «Only certified salons are authorized to sell cosmetic products” — quoted by my beauty-school friend. He tells me that the stuff in drug stores/supermarkets are either old/expired merchandise, or bought by an underground supplier. Since I have no clue into this market, I can only believe what he tells me. He also says that the products sold in drug stores and supermarkets are often pricier than that of salons, which I find to be true coming here(Ricky’s) compared to my local CVS. Besides that: Ricky’s has it all! And a very helpful staff for the men out there who can tell the difference between palmade and leave in conditioner. =) Another plus: full refund of any product you are unhappy with your purchase!

Ricky’s is a great place to go for many reasons. Amongst the pleasures that they carry they also have sexy costumes. Sexy costumes can be great for halloween or just that spontaneous night. Beware, this location does not have the costumes and they carry a very small closet space selection of adult toys. This Ricky’s has it all for the hair. Everything you need in any salon brand product. Plus curlers, dyes, flat irons, headbands, hair accessories and more. They have a Salon in the back for a quick makeover. I have attached a photo of this area so you may see it. Its clean and well maintained. Ladies, if you are looking for bra straps either clear or stylish for the summer they have them here. If you are looking for pasties, they have a wall filled with different shapes and sizes. I walked into this location on a hot muggy day and the A/C in here was refreshing. The staff is nice. They don’t follow you around the store but if you need help they are standing by. Look out for Ricky’s monthly sale items. They change up and the prices are good. sorry. unable to upload photos.

I adore this Ricky’s. I could spend hours in here. They have an awesome selection of every hair product, nail polish, beauty necessity, you name it. I cannot wait to go back in here when I literally have an hour to look at everything. I’m always looking for a go to place for gifts and this is a great place to fill a birthday box for girls! Oh and the staff is very friendly!

I choose Ricky’s to be my 500th review. I have been to every Ricky’s in Manhattan and Brooklyn. But this is the one I usually go to because it is near where I get acupuncture. If you read my review of another Ricky’s you will know I said if I was fortunate enough to move to Hawaii as is my fantasy one of the main things I will miss about NYC is Ricky’s. First of all Ricky’s is the only place I can get lip stick that doesn’t look orange on me. I know it is stage make up but all I wear is lip stick and I always get compliments on it. It doesn’t matter how expensive or what brand the lip sticks I have tried at department stores no matter what color looks orange on me. Only Ricky’s lip stick looks like the color it says it is. I am 47 years old and this year has been one of the most stressful years of my adult life. I am a natural blond. I know there aren’t many Americans that are natural blonds in adult hood but I am and depending on how much time I spend in the sun depends on how light it gets. Now that we are into fall I am not spending time in the sun and this year is the first year in years that we can’t afford to go away to a tropical island for the winter. I said all of that to say that the hair that frames my face is growing in white. I don’t know if it is grandma white or sun drenched white but I haven’t been in the sun and I have been really super stressed so I am tempted to think that it is grandma white. I am not happy about it either. I used to use a product that I could only find at Ricky’s. It is not found in any other store in NYC. It is a silk based hair glosser for blondes. It seems that Ricky’s stopped carrying it for a few years and I had to start getting it at . So in a panic due to the granny hairs I contacted the district manager of Ricky’s. They got my hair glosser just for me! 5 stars for the awesome customer service and patience with my hair emergency panic. The glosser is mainly for the frizzes but also enhances hair color. It is really a nice gold and when I use it as a smoother it makes my hair shiny but now that these granny hairs are growing in I am using it to make my hair shiny but also gold and not granny white without using hair color. Ricky’s saved my youth! Thank you Ricky’s! Now I just need to get a job to support my hair product habit!

One-stop shop to satisfy all girly needs, including the more intimate and less talked about ones(read: dildos and vibrators galore). Sephora is only a few blocks away but if you are looking for quality hair products, this place has a huuuuuuuge selection. They even have Crede, a line from Milbon, Japan famous for their thermal reconditioning products(Liscio hair straightening). If your hair is thermally reconditioned, I highly HIGHLY recommend you use the Crede hair treatment. Be on the lookout for sales & specials on hair style appliances, brushes, etc. that make things much more affordable. Minus one star for not carrying Aveda :(

A faahbulous array of expensive beauty supplies to keep you looking your best as you prance around the upper east side in your Choos. Like I care about that. [The back room is HOT. Go see for yourself. Don’t bring the kids. Wink.]
