If you work in the office building at 55 West 125th Street, you know a secret. In the back of the lobby is an old-timey tiny neon sign of a coffee cup directing you to the window, which is is surrounded by a Plexiglas protected display of snacks. An array of the best of the best is available to clear away your office worker blues — from cereal bars to cheddar and sour cream chips, with some Enteman’s lemon pound cake to boot. For those of you who can’t quite bear to drag yourselves into the sunshine for lunch, the sandwiches here are really good. Sandwiches need basic, good ingredients and lots of love, and here they get all three. I think they put something special on their unassuming everything bagels, because I’m a connoisseur and these are the tops. Cold drinks, 2-packs of Motrin, and the best iced coffee ever are available here too. Everything is cheap, $ 1.50 bagel with cream cheese, $ 1.50 iced coffee, $.75 snacks, as it should be in places of necessity but never is. The last but not least great part lifting the operation to the next level are the friendly guys behind the counter. With bitchy customers they never blink, with friendly ones they remember your order and sometimes have it ready before you get the words out of your mouth. All in all, this great little deli with the weird name is a highlight of my morning(and often, afternoon.)
