Went with veggie friend. We each had samplers. she had the veggie and I the meat sampler. Not so crazy about eating with hands, but it’s fine. My platter was good, my friends veggie platter was better. Will try that next time. Will try again and re-eval.

I am a huge fan of all the exotic cuisines and Ethiopian food is the winnnnn. Vegetarians go nuts about this place. But there is a huge selection for meat lovers as well. I have been here several times and never been disappointed. Everything tastes good, appetizers, entrees, deserts, even tea. My favorite is the lamb dish though. Cant go wrong with lamb.

Food is yummy. We only vegetarian items here, and everything is very tasty. My favorite is the lentils. Most of the items are spicy. Service is always slow.

I came here with some colleagues for dinner on a Monday night. It was VERY full, which we were a bit surprised by considering it was a Monday. We were seated immediately, and were waited on shortly after being seated. The menu itself is very informative, giving definitions of many of the common terms regarding Ethiopian food(helpful to non-experienced folks!) I can’t say much about the actual food other than it was good. I have not had much in the way of Ethiopian food to know whether this was a good example or not. I ordered the Doro Alecha, since I was little scared of how spicy some of the other dishes would be. The yellow lentils and green beans that came with my chicken were very tasty as well. I will say that it did take quite some time to get our food, but we chalked that up to the restaurant being very full, and the food all being made to order. As it was, we had time to chat among ourselves before our food arrived, and we had a lovely time. And you can’t beat the price! I was full about halfway through my meal, and if I wasn’t staying in a hotel, I would have potentially taken some home.

Convenient location, small and cozy environment. Food wasn’t that bad but their service was horrible. They were more focused on their carry out orders and regular clientele. We had to wait more than an hour to get our food. Go there if you have the extra time

Hell. Yes. This is my first time trying Ethiopian food, and I loved it. This place was great! Really chill ambiance and great service. It was warm inside on a cold day, and the food was excellent.

Good food, in a fun arrangement. The wait for the food is terrible though. I would ball park it at close to an hour for food for two.

I love this place. The food is unexpectedly delicious. Prior to my friend dragging me kicking and screaming, ok I’m exaggerating, to Queen of Sheba, I had never eaten Ethiopian Food. I was truly surprised. The food is served in small portions on a big piece of «sour bread». The bread is really thin and acts as the plate. The utensils are other pieces of bread served on the side or the bread which is plate. As for what to order, it is hard to recommend because everything is delicious. Unless u go you will not understand how the food is served. It has all sorts of spices in it but it is not hot just really tasty.

I’ve been to Queen of Sheba a total of three times now, first time as a party of 2, the second time as a party of 6, and a 3rd as take-out. I am so pleased to say all visits were awesome! The food is mostly delicious and flavorful, and they have gluten free injera! You should call in advance to confirm they have it on the day you plan to eat. But a special order isn’t required. If they have the gluten free flour available, they will make it! On my 1st visit, I ordered the vegetarian combo plate for 2 for lunch and the toasted injera appetizer, all gluten free. I wasn’t crazy about the toasted injera appetizer, mainly because I didn’t need to eat more carbs and it wasn’t very toasted! The vegetarian combo plate was large and delicious. The yellow«blob»(I believe it was split peas) was dry and bland. I didn’t like that one. I ordered the baklava to go, which was absolutely amazing! It was also a large portion for only $ 5! My 2nd visit was with a group of friends. We ordered a couple of meat based combo plates and a few vegetarian combo plates with gluten free injera available again! There was so much food that we couldn’t eat everything. The lamb had bones it in which was annoying for my friends. I love the chickpea balls in the vegetarian combo plate. It tasted like a spicy falafel. I could’ve eaten a whole order of just that by myself. For dessert, they ran out of baklava(bad planning on their part), but we ordered the crème caramel and rum cake. I felt tipsy after a few bites of the rum cake as there was so much rum in it, you could taste it. We all had a great time. Service was quite good, not slow. My 3rd visit was a baklava take-out to make up for the time I didn’t get my baklava. Let me tell you that it was even better than the first time I had it. This place gets packed after 7pm, so make reservations, especially on the weekends! Overall, I’m super excited about this place. I will be back again and again with my empty stomach and some more friends =)

This is probably my third or fourth time going to this place. I believe it one of a few Ethiopian restaurants we have in NYC, and probably the most authentic ones. I’m a vegetarian so this place is good for I usually get the vegetarian platter which comes With a bunch of mini samples you can say. Some taste good, I didn’t particularly enjoy the collard greens, but then do I ever! There’s a special bread they served called anjeera and it’s amazing! As far as the service goes thats where I had to take a few stars away from them. If there’s one thing I don’t expect in the few times I’ve been there is exceptional service. They don’t come and check on you so you’re compelled to hunt them down. If you specify that you want to food a bit spicy, it won’t come tat way, they’ll just bring it the way it’s cooked! So take it as it comes basically. It is a bit expensive, but the amount of food they give I think it serves right. Definitely almost always have to take a doggy bag home.

The service was slow. But I expect slow service in an Ethiopian restaurant. Lol… it’s part of the charm for me. However, this food tasted nothing like Ethiopian food. It was not bad. But I’ve eaten authentic Ethiopian food throughout the US. The seasoning has never been like it was with this food. This food was bland. There wasn’t even a hint of Ethiopian flavor.

Came here for a girls nice out to try something new, we had a total of 8 people all together we ordered all the different kinds of lamb, beef, chicken, and a chick pea. We didn’t think it would be enough food but it was more than enough, we were all so full after we had a little of each item. It had a nice bold flavor to it, almost like curry but it wasn’t curry at all. I most enjoyed the beef stew dish. I would definitely come back again to try other dishes. The restaurant had a nice and friendly ambiance, it also had a very authentic feel to it. We ate on this circle table thing and with our hands. We also had some of their alcoholic beverages which was mediocre since we could have gotten it some place else. Also tried the honey wine, which was a little too sweet for my liking.

First time trying out Ethiopian food and I have to say a lot of the flavors, spices, and textures are similar to indian food. The service at the restaurant left a lot to be desired. We had a reservation and asked for 2 available tables but were told they were taken/reserved. Finn enough no one sat at one of the tables the entire time we were there. NInstead we ended up in a narrow table between 2 other couples. Not comfortable at all. The sambuca appetizer($ 6) was delicious, we had the lentil version. I recommend the vege($ 16)or meat platter($ 24) because you can try a little bit of everything. I did feel like the meal was missing a crispy texture as everything was mushy and soggy. The injeera bread was tasty and very similar tasting to a South Indian dish(idili). Wines are $ 9 and up per glass and cocktails are $ 12/glass. Nothing was impressive.

Maybe Ethiopian food is not my cup of tea or maybe I just didn’t know what to order? But I did not enjoy my experience at this restaurant one bit. I had come in with a friend for lunch and thankfully caught the lunch special. I don’t think they offered that much for the lunch special but as soon as I walked in, I was hit with this smell that I did not like. It smelled really old and not pleasant. When I sat down, I was greeted with my waitress who gave me the menu and walked away. I was confused with what I should order and asked her for help but she did not seem to help me all that much, so I just ended up ordering the doro wat. The wait to get the food was incredibly long and I was getting impatient, but finally when the food came in I was happy to see that it was a large portion. Even though, it was cold I was happy to have finally had my food in front of me. I was told to eat the curry like things on my plate with the thin sponge like bread which resembled crepes. Everything was sour however. From the bread to the curries, I was definitely not pleased. I ate the chicken as much as I could and left. I was very disappointed and will not be back.

#Holy Moly. The food is #awesome. The last few times I’ve eaten Ethiopian food were at restaurants that were #vegetarian and thought it was good. Meat is even better! I got the Taste of Sheba(combination platter with #meats and stuff). Sheba, she tastes so good. Used my fingers and licked it.

Frequent visitors for their Ethiopian eats especially the veggie sampler/plate. Sometimes we get two but usually we share. They plate size got smaller in the years we’ve been going but the variety and taste is on point. We bring many friends here(locals and visiting alike). Now offers gluten free injira

Solid tasting of Ethiopian food. I actually have never had it before so I went with an experienced friend. The restaurant itself has a lot of character. It’s as if they shipped their home to you via the pictures on the walls and the straw stands to eat the food on. The little intricately carved chairs are cool also. The injera is good, soft and pillowy with a little sour aftertaste. If you order a meat or two you also get vegetables on the side and they all come out on a large platter with injera underneath. The best thing is the collard greens and the lentils are good although the plum like sweet sauce they were cooked in were a little weird. The restaurant itself is awash in the curry smell and a little homey. It’s no fancy pants it’s just your basic space that could almost be a hole in the wall save the Ethiopian flair they brought into the picture. Wash your hands a lot!

We were actually headed further north to a vegan standby in Harlem when we spotted Queen of Sheba. We called to make a reservation at 5:30 for 6:00. They said they don’t take reservations. Ok, so we parked and walked over. It was packed! We waited for about 20 minutes for a party of 2. It was worth the wait. I’d never had Ethiopian cuisine but my companion knew something about it. The first thing we noticed was that everyone was eating with their fingers, no utensils. Even for the very wet foods. hmmmWhen in Rome… We had two appetizers, no idea what they were called but suffice to say they were excellent!(See pics) For entrees we had the Sheba veg sampler and a lentil dish. I was warned that the lentils would be hot, but they were actually quite mild. Again see the pics because I can’t describe them other than to say excellent! The service was very good despite the crowd. They handled all functions with poise and grace. And lemme tell you that was a big job! Anyway the chef came out to the bar and I flagged her down; Sara was a delight! And she brought us a dish of mustard, lemon lentils when I told her it was our first time. Omg delicious! We can’t wait to go back soon!
