This store USEDTOBE a good one. I used to enjoy coming in and buying different types of coffee on my trips downtown. Sadly, I had a terrible experience there this week. The attendant was extremely rude and unhelpful, a girl who worked on this Saturday night. I was willing to come out with a few pounds of coffee, but she made faces at me as if she were doing me a favor. This is not how one should handle a small business, specially one in New York City where competition is ever-growing and where so many businesses have been failing. I hope the owner is aware of the way his staff is treating the store’s long-time customers… will think twice before coming back.

First, I bought a pound of their beans roasted specifically for cold brew/iced coffee. The price was not too bad for those beans as it was one of their specials. Next, I decided to buy a cup of coffee made at the store. I really liked the flavor of the coffee and the large size was quite large! Made cold brew coffee from the beans I bought for the morning after, and I can report that it makes an excellent cold brew ices coffee.

I love going into this store. Everyone there are super helpful when you’re looking for some new coffee to try out. There are so many varieties here that sometimes it can be overwhelming! Whether you’re a coffee afficionato or just someone who enjoy any old cup of joe, you will leave here happy.

I loved this place, the smells of coffee and spices, the teas, such a lovely place. Note though that there are lines and you need plenty of time allocated to get you selections.

It would be nice to have their staff guide customers on the myriad of coffee available. But over all, the place is great in that there’s so much variety and they can grind your coffee however you need it.

This place has really good coffee. Coming from someone who is first a lover of tea and always found coffee too bitter, this place has really knows how to roast and brew their coffee to bring it complex taste profiles. The coffee is pretty affordable and I really like their house blend. Unlike other coffee that I’ve drank, I enjoy drinking their coffee without cream or sugar. I need to check out their tea soon.

Ally behind the counter is super nice! Say hi to her for me! The coffee here is top notch. Super delicious aroma right when you enter the shop brings me back here almost on the daily. With a 1.85 $ large how can you go wrong? It’s one of those things that after a class I find myself randomly and unknowingly walking towards. Before I know it hey I got coffee. Super easy and super friendly! Again, say hi to Ally for me. Tell her Paul sent you and she’ll probably not do anything about it… Yeah… But she’s nice :)

My new go to place for coffee beans. Unilocal reviewers were correct when they say the staff is extremely friendly here. I walked in and was greeted by Brandon(Hope I got his name right). He answered all my questions and was very friendly and helpful. Walked out with 3 different types of coffee beans.

Love this place! Tons of coffee to buy from and they even have their own small corner where they serve coffees, lattes, etc! Def worth a stop in if you are in the area! :)

If you know your coffee, you’ll love this place. If you have no idea about coffee, you’ll love this place. Every one of the staff is amazingly patient and knowledgeable. I was in line the other night and witnessed this exchange between a staff member and a woman: Woman: I want some coffee. Staff: Sure. Which would you like? Woman: I don’t know. Staff: Okay, how do you like your coffee? Strong? Flavored? Fruity? And then he and the woman walked off to smell some beans. I’ve been trying their different blends and haven’t had one I didn’t like. Forget Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks or Trader Joe’s. True New Yorkers get their coffee beans at Porto Rico!

This is one of my favorite places in all of NYC. Amazing coffee, good price, helpful staff. I love stopping in for a cup of coffee or a whole bag of beans. And the coffee smell. About 5 minutes in there and I smell a little bit like coffee and I can’t say I hate it. Heaven.

A coffee addicts paradise. Buy beans, drink coffee, inhale coffee. Nuff said. One thing — stop in on a week day, avoid the crush.

Quintessential New York experience. Don’t be intimidated if you’re not a coffee connoisseur the staff is extremely helpful and not there to condescend. The line forms in the front of the store but walk around and feel free to soak in the rich aroma of teas, coffees and herbs. Truly a full sensory experience. Got a Brazilian roast for coffee and the Italian blend for espresso — aromatic and wonderful. Embrace the wonderful world of coffee!

Lapin and I were in the neighborhood and decided to pop in. The aroma of coffee quickly greets you upon entering. The store is filled in every nook and cranny with coffee beans, sweets, and random(but cool) merch. The store wasn’t packed when we went but it was hard to get someone’s attention. When, we did they were really nice and helpful. They asked about preferences and even gave recommendations. Lapin got the Hazelnut coffee but wasn’t super excited about it since it had actual hazelnut in it. He picked them out before grinding the coffee. He liked it but prefers Blue Bottle, Brooklyn Roasting Company, Café Grumpy and Stumptown instead. They also had containers of old time candy — the fudge and chocolate covered candies were delicious.

Ah, so THIS is what coffee is supposed to taste like! Stopped into Porto Rico Importing this weekend with a friend who swears it’s the best java in the city. I think he may be right. We got on line inside this tiny, packed coffee store/shop and ordered the house blend. It was so rich and fresh — a welcome change from the office coffee I’m used to. I think my favorite part of the experience was admiring the huge sacks of coffee beans that take center stage inside the store. Porto has every flavor you could ever want and each smells so good. Will be back!

If any part of you loves coffee: the nauseating aroma, the comforting sips, any and all of the coffee culture — pay Porto Rico Importing Co. a visit! I stopped dead in my tracks when I walked by. It smelled amazing! Had we had more time I would have examined every bean, but with a store full of fellow crazed-caffeine addicts, it was hard to be Java Detective. There’s also a coffee bar if you simply cannot wait for your fix. Prices are very reasonable. PRICo. also carries all things coffee — french presses, mugs, steeps, tea stuff as well as some sweets. Awesome place.

My favorite place for coffee beans in NYC. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable, and the bean selection is vast. I love the Mint and the Costa Rican dark. At $ 9.95 per pound, it’s a great deal for quality coffee.

Great assortment of coffee! Store is unique and a fun experience. Not a cookie cutter corporate Starbucks zombie. TIP: Any coffee with ‘flavoring’ is very very strong so I usually use a bit less of it when brewing.

So far so AMAZING. Got two bags of fresh roasted espresso for under $ 20. Extracted wonderfully in my commercial espresso machine. Walked in on a quiet weekday morning and browsed first after knowing exactly what I wanted and was asked if I need help at least three times which is pretty amazing. The workers here are the true definition of customer service.

I’m looking at an empty bag of Porto Rico Importing Co. coffee. French roasted Costa Rican. :silent tear runs down face: I was walking in the Greenwich Village, head down, minding my own business, when all of a sudden I smell the best coffee of my life. It was like a Bugs Bunny cartoon the way I followed the aroma right into their door. I’m no aficionado. I will murder a cup of joe with too much half-and-half and sugar. But the coffee at Porto Rico Importing makes me want to be a better person. A person with the $ 126.75 Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/Black, that’s going onto her Amazon Wish List immediately. There was a sign that requested that you not take photos while I was there. I don’t know how everyone else got away with it. Y’all are special. But there really was no need to visually capture what is best experienced through scent. :opens empty bag… inhales forlornly: The only reason I’m out now is that this place is absolutely near none of my normal haunts. But I’m quite willing to get out my Metrocard for a special trip.

Love, love, love this place. I would give it 6 stars if I could. This is a great place to get coffee/tea in bulk. The selection is insane — literally imported coffee beans and tea leaves from all over the world. They’re organized very neatly based on flavor, geographic origin, etc. The beans stay fresh for a really long time and the staff who work here grind up the beans for you and package it very neatly(one tip — make sure you mention the way you want it ground instead of what you use — e.g. say«coarse grind» instead of «French press» because sometimes the employees get confused). I buy tea by the pound here and coffee by the half pound and find the prices to be extremely reasonable.

The coffee aroma hits you mid block. You can not, not go in and order half a pound or a pound of coffee. Loved the customer service here. They were helpful in finding the perfect coffee with the details I provided. I’m going to have to stock up for the winter months because I think I’m hooked. :-)

This place is a coffee lovers dream. It’s almost overwhelming seeing the floors filled with giant sacks of coffee or every flavor and roast imaginable. Want organic? They have it. Want fair trade? They have it. They even have Kalinga Alamid coffee, which is a little daring for me but hey if you’re into that no judgement. They have a place to grab a cup of their house brew coffee which is also very good, and a unique candy selection with things like ginger bites. They have been family owned and operated for three generations, since the first decade of the 20th century and the charm is still there. This is what makes Greenwich Village an amazingly charming neighborhood. They also sell their coffee online so even across the states you can take advantage of their great selection.
