AWFUL food poisoning from the Trento panini. Wasn’t that good either.

I love Pisillo. It is one of my favorite lunch spots in the Financial District, possibly the entire borough. I have ordered delivery and take out on many occasions with zero issues. Today was my first and only negative experience. Delivery was over an hour late and by the time it arrived the bread was so soggy my sandwich was virtually inedible. I don’t care if delivery is delayed, but I should have at least received a notification.

*** AWESOME *** This place is a hidden gem. I work in the financial district and never order prosciutto or sopressata around here because no one carries quality stuff. I only get it back home in real Italian deli’s. I heard about this spot and split a hero not knowing prosciutto was in the sandwich. I gave it a shot and I could not believe how fresh and delicious the prosciutto was. I wanted my buddies other half of the sandwich. He gave me the look of death, I am very impressed with this place. Pisillo’s has made it to my weekly lunch rotation. This week, I’m going twice. I have to get another bite in before the end of the week. :) Just go and get a sandwich.

Heaven on semolina. I love this place. It’s a hidden gem in FiDi that a lot of people don’t know about. Cash only!

Definitely a must try. My wife and I have traveled the world and are always looking for places like this. This place is the definition of a «Hole-in-wall». Quality of food is excellent! This place is a MUST! They definitely brought Italy to New York.

Delish! Ive been to Pisillos 3x and every time is solid! Quality ingredients from the meats to the cheese to the bread. Its worth the price because they give you a sub that weighs more than a newborn baby :) really friendly italian dudes behind the counter too… #26 w/proscuitto, porchetta, mozz, arugula on ciabatta. and #8 soppresetta, mozz, hot peppers are my fave.

It’s been a while and, in my experience, things don’t usually get better when you’ve been away from a restaurant for too long. That isn’t the case for Pisillo – incredibly, I think they’re even friendlier and more energetic now than when I first stepped through their doors, and they were plenty friendly then. They also seem busier but, when you have nearly perfect Unilocal reviews and provide a product that’s a ridiculously good value, it is no surprise they’re jammed. The store is small, and on a side street, so I guess the best way to get a steady stream of repeat customers is to overwhelm them with goodness? This family-run place – and it’s the same people behind the counter as was there when they opened in 2013 – greet you like family. Frankly, in NYC you’re lucky if get even a smile, but these people remember you and make you happy to be there. The food is still excellent. Since it’s been a while, I went with something I know and love – the Genova(tuna, artichoke hearts, and arugula). What I got was something as big as Popeye’s forearm, and way more than I could eat for lunch. The richness of the tuna was cut by the sharpness of the arugula and the saltiness of the artichokes, and it was as good and as plentiful as it was so long ago. Again, who does this? Maybe I’m just surprised that this level of service and quality can be had in a FiDi hole-in-the-wall? No matter, because I’m just going to count my blessings that they’re still a great place for lunch.

Great spot to order lunch that is filling and moderately priced. I work in Battery Park, so we ordered lunch for the whole team on seamless. Our twelve sandwiches were ready and delivered in under than 30 minutes, which left us impressed. The sandwiches were all clearly marked and amazingly the whole order was correct. The sandwiches are HUGE! One sandwich could easily last two meals at least. I ordered the Capri, a vegetarian option with bufala mozzarella, arugula, evoo, and tomatoes. The mozzarella was incredible! So creamy and fresh. My sandwich came out to be $ 11.90, which is a good price since it is so huge. If you get a meat sandwich, expect for your total to be closer to $ 15. My one complaint about the sandwich is the bread is tough. I got the ciabatta for an extra $ 1 and it was tough to chew. The sandwich was still good, but I wish the bread had been softer inside.

I thought the sandwiches here would be comparable to Alidoro but unfortunately they aren’t and i felt I wasted 15 minutes walking to Pisillo and my cold hard cash, as this Soccer-lover’s dream, authentic-Euro-vibe-but-too-weird-for-me establishment is cash only. To start with the positives, the bread was fresh and tasty and my reason for 2 stars instead of 1. The blood orange San Pelligrino was also good but you already knew that. I found the wait to be unusually short even though the place was packed. And now for the negatives, the smoked chicken in the Firenze sandwich wasn’t impressively tasty. Neither was the provolone. And the peppers were definitely not what I was expecting. Think supermarket quality from a jar. The attitude from the cashier wasn’t great either, but you already knew that too.

everything they said it’s true! hidden gem, i’m kinda sad that i worked in FiDi for over 5 years and have just recently discovered it! everything is super fresh, friendly staff, huge portions(i make 2 meals out of it). i tried the #3 and #30(porchetta, provelone, artichokes, arugula, truffle oil), both were fantastic! i will definitely be back for sure. ps. they’re cash-only, but if you order through Grubhub, you can use your credit card! i suggest ordering ahead online too because it does get busy during lunch time.

Throwback hoagie joint! They just need to dress it with oil and vinegar and oregano and it would be perfect! It’s not quite up to White House Sub shop standards in Atlantic City but pretty damn close! I’m embarassed to say that I couldn’t finish the hoagie. It’s a 14″ sandwich! It’s dinner and lunch or lunch two times!

Still good! I got something even better this time: the Pisillo! The porchetta and peppers added some awesome depth and juiciness. My new fave sandwich! P. S. Online ordering through Unilocal is super easy.

Please sign me up for the Pisillo Fan Club! I’m a believer after one bite of the oversized heroes served here. Everything from the New York Panini to the Napoli Panini are absolute winners. These sandwiches comes in one size feeds all. Well one sandwich is more than enough for one person and you can easily have half for lunch and the other for dinner. Or even consider sharing with a friend. The bread is made fresh every day and delivered from Brooklyn. Cheese and cold cuts are as fresh as it gets and noticeable in the taste. Please note they are not the hot pressed paninis but regular sandwiches because the name is very confusing. The customer service is top notch too. Great phone manners and nice about explaining ingredients of their sandwiches. Overall, fantastic lunch spot in Financial District and highly recommend if you work in the area.

I am not even sure how to review this establishment. Firstly, I have to note that the portion sizes are GIGANTIC. I have no idea how I ate my sandwich, but my tummy is sort of aching from overeating. In any case, everything is fresh and flavorful and prepared on the spot. You see someone slicing the meat on a butcher’s slicer right as sandwiches are being made. The freshness of the ingredients is unparalleled. The only negative I would say is that the portions were really ridiculously large. It would make more sense to charge less and serve smaller portions. This is not really meant to be eaten by one person. It really is enough food for three people! TIP: this place is cash-only, but you could get around that if you order for pick up on Grub Hub.

Pisillo has a special place in my Italian-meat-loving heart. I first discovered this place when a co-worker of mine commuted from midtown to fidi during lunch hour to pick up 20+ sandwiches for our office. This place is the best Italian sandwich shop in nyc(closed Sundays!). A small shop on Nassau Street, it is a staple for all lunch-goers. The people who work there seem like family, great service. That bread! Freshly baked. I always go with regular white hero but the Ciabatta and Focaccia are amazing as well if you want to do something different. My go-tos are anything with prosciutto, sopressata, salami or speck. My favorite is 9 with speck, smoked mozzarella, arugula and truffle oil. TRUFFLEOIL. They have so many variations of «paninis» and the portions are humongous. Watch out: their hot peppers are HOT. You can share it between two people easy but I personally love it so much I refuse to share. I will and must eat the whole thing. The only negative about this place is that I can’t eat at any other sandwich shop now because not one has even come close to these delicious standards. Nothing will be as good or fresh as pisillos!

These things are massive and delicious. I really liked the bread and the ingredients, and they really load them in. It’s enormous… Easily enough for more than 2 meals and I have a big appetite. My favorite sandwich so far in the FiDi. They do run $ 10 – 15 but again it’s a lot of food. Cash only!

Pisillo Italian Panini has been on my bookmarks list since I started working in the Financial District(over a year ago now!), but I never visited because I just couldn’t justify paying $ 11-$ 14 for a panini. Until today, when GrubHub sent me a $ 5 coupon! This was a no-brainer way to check out Pisillo. Using the website, I ordered the L’Aquila Panini($ 10.90) with roasted chicken breast, fresh mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and arugula on whole wheat. 10 minutes later my sandwich was ready, and I eagerly walked over to the small deli to pick it up.(Note: I realized when I got there that they are cash only, but I paid through GrubHub so I was able to use a card.) Little did I know! These sandwiches are NOT paninis. They are full-blown heroes that are the length of my forearm and the width of my calves! I am not kidding when I say that my arms got tired from carrying it back to my office… and half of a sandwich made for a gut-busting lunch.(TGIF!) I would definitely come back for another one of their«paninis,» and I would gladly pay full price next time. It’s totally worth it considering it’s delicious, and you can get 2 meals out of 1!

Three words — believe the hype. Pisillo Italian Panini is – and I rarely use this expression because it’s already so overused — a hidden gem. It is real, authentic, delicious, fresh, massive(seriously, the sandwich could serve as lunch and dinner)…it is – I’m just going to say it – the best Italian sandwich/panini I’ve ever had. My grandfather is Italian(like, real Italian — he was born in Sicily) and I’m sure even he would be impressed. I ordered the Cagliari Panini for pick up. I strongly — strongly! — suggest you order ahead of time; they’re super busy and nobody likes waiting. I was told when I placed my order that it would be ready in 20 – 25 minutes. When I went to pick up, my sandwich was ready, wrapped and I only had to pay. It is cash only, so remember to bring cash — I actually had to borrow $ 2.00 from a coworker… next time I’ll come prepared. Also, even though there were a couple suits eating inside, I’d suggest taking to-go. It’s a small shop(read: not many tables/chairs) and, to be honest, I’m more of a to-go girl anyway. The prices are very — very, very, very! — reasonable. Seriously, the panini was huge — like, 12 inches. I’ve paid a lot more for a lot less; this might be the best deal in FiDi, sandwich-wise. Now, time to brag about the sandwich — the delicious, Cagliari Panini. First off, all the panini’s sounded amazing, but I’m a sucker for hot and spicy spread. And, once I saw artichokes, I was sold. It was heavenly — the ingredients were so fresh, it was almost like being in Italy.(In fact, when I got back to the office, I made myself a cappuccino and, I have to say, I felt like a real Italian.*) Bonus: They love Unilocal!I told the sweet, blue haired girl — love your hair! — behind the register that I found Pisillo through Unilocal and she showed me the« Unilocal Wall.» They had printed and posted their reviews on a bulletin board near the register, which I thought was just so, so cute. As an avid Unilocal-er, it’s nice to see businesses appreciate Unilocal. *Italian(I-tal-YEN) — you have to read it like this for it to sound witty

BELIEVETHEHYPE. The hype is real. I’m not exaggerating when I say they have a whole wall plastered with 5-star Unilocal reviews. While I was eating my sandwich at one of the side tables, I couldn’t help but overhear multiple people exclaiming how excited they were to get their sandwich. Yeah. These sandwiches are worthy of getting excited over. Why? The reason they’re 5 stars is that there is not one thing they do that isn’t everything you could want in an Italian sandwich joint. The menu is long and varied(30-some sandwiches, plus specials), the service is fast and super friendly, but most importantly(to me, at least) is that the ingredients are not only fresh but of the highest quality. All the fresh stuff is super fresh, and all the aged stuff comes direct from Italy. They slice the meats for your sandwich at the time you order it, and you’d best bet the toppings and bread are equally up to par. You also get your choice between a handful of different bread types and shapes, too. So how good is this place? I found out about it during one of NYC’s coldest winters(–35deg wind chills, etc) and even though it’s a 1.5mi walk from the office and back, it still couldn’t keep me away from here!
