I have waited a good 5 months before writing this review to see what becomes of my hair after a Japanese Straightening treatment. I’m happy to report that my hair still looks as healthy as ever. I’m very happy and impressed. I don’t even have the nasty split ends that wouldn’t be unheard of with this treatment even if you cut your hair regularly.
I had my hair done by Peter and Anna (they work in teams for Japanese Straightening treatments though most of it was very skillfully done by Anna while Peter did all the parts around the face). I liked that when I came in for a consult, Peter actually recommended that I try a mini-​straightening instead — less time and money. This worked perfectly and allowed my hair to retain some bounce and body despite being straightened. I’ve been straightening my hair for 12 years now and not one salon even suggested this.
If you’re thinking of Japanese Straightening, this is definitely the place for it. I’d recommend going for a consult with your hair washed and air-​dried without any product in it first so they can see really see what it’s naturally like. You’ll get the best results that way. Just FYI, Peter can come off as skittish and a bit awkward — he actually insulted my hair color at the consult, after I told him I needed to get it fixed. Didn’t need the insult added to injury — though it was more of an «I coulda done it better» insult. I almost didn’t return but his blog and experience convinced me he knew his stuff so I decided to give it a shot. Got great service with no attitude and now I’m a fan. Highly recommend Peter and Anna.

This review is for Hose. He is very creative and attentive. He was able to bleach my hair without any damage giving me beautiful blonde color from my highlighted and low lighted head. and you know how hard is that. He spent a lot of time with me leaving me happy. He also dyed me pastel pink afterwards. I found creativity in midtown! Now i don’t have to waste my time to go to east village haha

I’ve been coming here for seven years — it was one of my first «fancy» New York moments. I come back every six months to get my unruly hair straightened by Corina. They are simply the best at what they do — especially extensions and straightening. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I’ve been coming here for years and I always get compliments on my hair. Some would say my best feature. This can be you too. Peter gives fantastic haircuts that grow out well and Kino is excellent with color including highlights. Many people also come for Japanese straightening but I personally don’t need it. I’m impressed with many of the female stylist as well including Maria.

I’m very selective about who cuts my hair, and this was the first time I trusted a new place to create a new look for me, and now I won’t be looking anywhere else. Peter did an absolutely stunning job. The haircut was chic and sophisticated, best one I’ve had, and I’ve already recommended the salon to everyone who’s complimented it. Incredible location, staff, chill and chic atmosphere (they also have art shows), and incredible haircuts!

I am a typical New York snob when it comes to my hair. I take pride in the care of my hair and am quite selective when it comes to WHO I allow to take care of it. My friend recommended me to see his fave hair stylist (and owner of this salon) Peter, after I told him how I really needed to find a good, solid hair salon where I can feel confident and beautiful when all is said and done. Well: It looks like I found my new ‘go to’-place for my hair!
Why?
This is why:
–Getting an appointment here was a breeze. I was helped promptly upon arrival. Friendly staff altogether.
–Peter Louis Agro (owner of the salon) cut and styled my hair. He was patient (he put up with me… hello!!!), knowledgeable, flexible, kind and understanding from start to finish. Without being pushy, Peter made some good suggestions. I felt comfortable in Peter’s hands pretty much the moment I sat down in his chair, and my hair looked stunning by the time I left.
–The salon is pretty, with lots of interesting art on the walls, and does not have any snobby clients, like the ones that I used to have to listen to in my former hair salon. (and boy, can some of these obnoxious, spoiled clients be annoying to listen to)
–I opted for the Linkage Meu Salon Service 3 Step Treatment for $ 75,-. My hair felt super silky smooth afterwards. What a difference that made for my chemically abused hair! Peter also cut off my split ends. The best part: I didn’t even feel like I lost that much length. Great haircut, nice layering, finished off with a good blow-​dry.
–Peter Louis’ availability of hair treatments, products, and procedures to repair, thicken and stimulate hair growth naturally is quite extensive compared to most other salons I have been to, and the staff is very knowledgeable about the plethora of options that are being offered. Peter Louis carries many different reputable brands, and even has his own line.
I walked out happy and confident, thanks to the topnotch treatment I was given.

Have been going here for YEARS now for thermal reconditioning. I wouldn’t go anywhere else … I tried … but didn’t get NEARLY the awesome results I get when I go here. The atmosphere isn’t all that great but it doesn’t matter. I come out so happy with my hair everytime!

The best hair salon in the world — Peter Louis is a true artist.

I have been going to Tyler at Peter Louis Salon since 2007. I am stopped on the street regularly, complimented on my cut and color and have probably referred 10 clients to Tyler over the years. Tyler is an artist and so nice. He takes the time to give you the cut and color that works for you and your face. I would recommend Tyler to anyone who really wants a great haircut and color!

This is the place to go for Japanese Straightening in NYC. I just went yesterday for the fourth time in two years and once again I had a great experience. Corinna and her assistant were attentive and meticulous, and Kino was able to give me a trim before he left for the day. I had gone to another well known and reputable salon a few months ago for Japanese Straightening and they completely messed up my hair, between the botched straightening and bad haircut. Corinna and Kino were able to fix the mess and I left last night looking and feeling a thousand times better than when I had walked in! Thank you again for another job well done!

I honestly do not understand the bad reviews… I recently moved from SF and Peter was recommend by my stylist for TR. I was a little hesitant after seeing the bad reviews. I found everyone in the salon to be friendly and professional. Peter did a wonderful job on my hair… it looks and feels great. One citysearch review claimed the salon was expensive… I found pricing was reasonable… Thermal Reconditioning is not something you want at a bargain price… I will continue to use Peter and highly recommend this salon

I would not waste my time and money on this salon. The raves on city search almost seem like they are rigged. I wrote my opinion (of course not recommending the salon) and sure enough it dissapeared in a few weeks… I wonder how. ~I had a horrible $ 150 haircut from Peter louis himself.
The place itself is a dump. There are tons of great, chic places in the city with great stylists than this place. On top of that the receptionist had an attitude.
