I’ve been coming to Rafael for years, initially for a trim for my long hair, and lately for short stylish haircuts. He had always been a good sport about working on woman’s hair, and results have always been superb. He does encourage me to bring photo reference, and follows it pretty closely. I’ve sent many a female friend his way, and all have been very happy with his skill. Besides the excellent and affordable haircut, I appreciate minimal chatter and speed. If you are a woman who likes a short elegant haircut and doesn’t like the pretentiousness of a ladies hair salon, this place is a godsend.

I got a side-​eye from the staff the first couple times I came in here for a buzz cut (I’m not a dude), but nevertheless, they’re always polite, give me a good-​to-​great cut, and I’m in there and out of there in 20 minutes tops. More than worth $ 15. I’ve started going for all my regular haircuts.

I came in here for a beard trim the other day. I did not need anything special, just needed to mow the lawn with a #3 attachment on the clippers and clean up around the sideburns. I didn’t feel the need to go all straight razor extravagance.
I walked in and was promptly greeted and seated. The clipping and sideburns stuff only took 10 – 15 minutes and I am satisfied with the results. All for about $ 13. Why 3 stars? Since all I got was a simple beard trim with clippers and not a proper shave or haircut, I would reserve 4 or more for a haircut or full shave service. That said, I will be back for beard trims in the near future.

no complaints. Still have not had a cut as good as the one Aaron used to give. First in the 86th/​Lex Subway stop and then he shuffled around… I eventually lost track of him a few years ago between his moves and mine. Kicked around a bit and then found this place. Always friendly, always a good cut and you can’t beat $ 12. They’re at the 59th street station, but down the steps at the 57th Street/​8th Ave entrance (on the East side by the Gap).

The Good — fast, friendly, inexpensive and decent hairclip (clip cause it’s all done with clippers!)
The Bad — There ain’t nothing bad about a good 12 dollar haircut, sorry, clip!
Having only recently moved to the U.S., it has taken me a few months to get used to going to barbers and them not using scissors — its all done with a comb and clippers from the experiences I have had so far, and Peerless Barber shop is no exception. What is an exception is the speed of the cut, the price (only 12 dollars), and the fact I came away with a trim I was happy with! The place itself is tucked into the stairs heading down into the subway, can fit 6 people by the count of the chairs, and you’ll be in and out in under 15 minutes. The gentleman that cut my hair was a friendly chap to boot!
Definitely going back next time my mop needs a clip!
