Don’t go here if you don’t know anyone. I get the impressions it’s a place where people who know the owner go. If you wander in here, no one cares. Bar tender was kinda rude and overcharged. Not worth the argument.

Loved it! The ambience, the food and the drinks all pretty good! Since its a listed $$$, expect it to be expensive. Otherwise, a nice chilled out and relaxed place

The food is OK. Prices are rather high. Be careful with your stuff though. I left there my umbrella, called them back right away and agreed that I would collect it next day. They confirmed that it was there and I could come. The next day the umbrella was not there and they told me that there was nothing they could do. It was new and not cheap umbrella. It puts my overall feeling of this place to the negative side.

Onegin is great fun, and the food and atmosphere are great. They were generous and attentive hosts to a private event I attended there, and the food and drinks were flowing and fine! A total recommend, and great for groups as well as a dinner for two!

The place is beautifully decorated. Antique renaissance-like furniture with a modern flair. I joined a bunch of friends on a Tuesday night just for drinks and the bartenders were quick and very friendly… the drinks were tasty and the music was great. Then we proceeded to sing karaōke at 9 pm which was a blast. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting a good time in Manhattan with a sense of Russia.

Went here last night with a friend with the Travelzoo deal($ 55 for 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 drinks). Food was pretty good — the best was definitely the cutlets and then the two apps(blini and the chicken liver pâté). The chicken kiev was disappointing though. A bit dry and tough. I was a disappointed because everyone else raved about the chicken kiev. The service was also a little spotty. The person who filled my water in the beginning(whom I thought was the waiter) completely ignored me when I asked for a glass of wine. After 10 mins, the actual waiter/bartender came and he was very pleasant. The décor was a little odd — we sat at these interesting looking chairs that looked cool at first which is why I asked to be seated there but upon further inspection, it looked a little dingy but whatever, we still sat there. All in all, great experience despite the dingy chairs.

Very quiet on a Tuesday evening. We ordered off the Groupon menu. The service was great and the food came out promptly. I got the veal pelmeni and the beef stroganoff while my friend got the fisherman’s soup and the pozharsky cutlets. The portions were immense! We were pretty full on the appetizers alone. A decent experience overall.

I recently had my wedding at Onegin and it was the best choice I could of made. I met with Jacob who answered my million questions with much patience. He made me feel very comfortable about having the most important party of our lives in the restaurant. The food was incredible, there was so much variety! The seabass with truffle mashed potatoes was insanely good! I had many guests give compliments on the quality of food that they had. The drinks were amazing, even my 95 year old grandpa had a martini! I couldn’t be happier about how my wedding turned out and will have all my special occasions in Onegin! Thank you for making this a night i will never forget.

I’m still trying to figure out exactly how I feel about my experience here. It’s a bit of a mixture between«tolerable because there was vodka to distract me» and«just once is enough.» I came here with 5 others for my friend’s birthday on Saturday night. Our reservation was for 9pm, and we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is nice, a bit small, but the décor had a good balance between contemporary and old world charm. The service was subpar at best. The waiter didn’t really come around to check on our table. It seemed like he thought his only responsibilities were to take our order and give us the check. We also bought a bottle of vodka for the table, and after HALF the warm bottle was served, a runner, not even the waiter himself, brought an ice bucket for the bottle. And thankfully, I read older Unilocal reviews for this restaurant because neither their menu nor their staff notified me that the bill would already include a 18% gratuity. So for other potential customers, please be aware that they do this because there’s a good chance their staff won’t tell you(even after the management team has addressed this similar concern on a previous Unilocal review). Also, the runners must be really good at their jobs because three of the people seated at my table had their food taken away before they were done with it. The people that were still seated weren’t even asked if they should take their plates away. However, that wasn’t the end to our grievances for the night. The food itself was simply lack luster. All the food was served luke-warm. I was looking forward to the borscht and the stuffed cabbage, and sadly I was disappointed. Two of the people seated at my table had the chicken kiev, which seemed to be the only good dish that was served at the table. My friend ordered the steak cooked medium rare, and somehow received a «warm» well-done steak. I ordered the salmon, and it was so dry I had to drench it in the gelatinous red sauce, which seemed like a caramelized version of the borscht soup base. Even doing that I couldn’t finish the salmon. Though I must say, their mashed potatoes are fantastic. Perhaps they should consider adding that to their entrees. The saving grace of the meal was the DJ. Though he only played what I could only interpret as Russian dance music, the group and I have fun dancing to the music. I mean we did finish an entire vodka tower and a bottle of vodka. Once we received the bill, one of my friends decided to bring up these concerns with management. You would think that management would take some of these concerns seriously, especially since there were still three very hungry people at my table. I’m not sure who he spoke with exactly, but after a long back and forth between my friend, the management representative, and the waiter that we only saw a total of 3 – 4 times, they decided to take a gracious $ 20 off our bill. All in all, the next time my friends and I want to spend $ 670 dollars to celebrate a birthday, I’m confident to say we’ll be bringing that money elsewhere.

Great service, love the atmosphere, decent food, full bar. Upon entering this establishment I felt as if I just stepped into a Victorian home. The décor was just amazing and very comforting with plush seats and dangling chandeliers. If you check in with Unilocal, you get a free Vodka infused shot and the selection is wide but the waiter recommended the strawberry for us and it was a potent drink so sip responsibly! For appetizers we went with the dozen oysters, a little pricey at $ 3 a piece but the presentation was great: brought out in a giant lit up cocktail glass filled with ice. The oysters were a great size and the flavor very distinct and crisp. We also got a duck and potato appetizer and it was by far my favorite dish that night. The duck meat was shredded and stringy mixed with flattened and lightly fried potatoes topped with a sort of cream, absolutely delicious, highly recommended. For mains, I went with the braised beef and risotto and my friend went with the beef tenderloin. The risotto was a disappointment, not what I expect a risotto to taste like, it was very dry and the grain hardly seemed cooked. The beef however was done very well and they are generous with the portions. My friends beef tenderloin had a good flavor as well, almost like a sort of curry. But could use some rice since there was so much meat and sauce. This place has a expansive menu with pages of options so I will definitely be back for that duck as well as to try another dish.

The interior design is pretty cool just like ancient century. I came here with my friends, so we could try more dishes. I got the steakhouse stew as appetizer, it was kinda too salty for me. And my friend ordered salmon roe, dumpling, and chicken liver, the chicken liver taste sweet and wired. We didn’t like it. But I think the entrée was fine, I had porharsky cutlets with mushed potato ! It taste good though. Also the beef stroganoff tasted fine, but too easy to get full because it came with cheese.

I really don’t recommend this place. The décor I would describe as shabby chic, it looks like it’s striving for elegance with overstuffed plushy chairs, painted ceiling, and decorative elements, but in an old, run-down sort of way. But more important, the food’s is not very good. I tried the blinis which came with some really salty reddish cavair, little bits of chopped egg, and a tasteless sourcream. The veal stew was okay, it was like eating gravy. I liked eating the outside seared parts of the Pozharsky cutlets, but after that, the rest of the meat just tasted the same. Overall, I would say the food is lackluster and the drinks comprised of cheap vodka.

Came with a deal for a prix fixe. None of the food was inedible, but I can’t say that I really enjoyed any of it. There were four of us, so we kind of shared everything so we all tried each other’s dishes. Maybe I’m just not used to the flavors, but nothing was especially appealing to me. The service was also hit or miss. They also were holding a brunch party that ended at 7pm on Sunday. They warned me about the noise when I made my reservation, but I definitely underestimated the noise level. We couldn’t hear each other over the music and had to scream to be heard. Overall, a poor experience for me and I wouldn’t come back.

Impressed with this place. Came here for a friends birthday and had a great time. It is a Russian place with Russian food, done in a Classic European style. There are pictures on Russian poets on the ceiling and candle lit ambience. At about 10pm a big screen came down and started showing the Victoria Secret fashion show. The show went on for some time and smoothly transitioned into karaōke. It was a group of about 30 of us and we were allowed to walk around and mingle around the tables. It was great for socializing and the staff was extremely accommodating. I have been to places that given a big enough group will give you a hard time for walking around… Here we were encouraged to be singing and dancing after the music started. Food — the infused Vodka shots were cool. Nice presentation. The taste was ok but I am not one to judge — not a vodka fan. Food was ok. I had better Russian food before but again… I come from a Russian home and you can’t beat my grandmas cooking. I also thought it was a bit pricey for what it was… Overall — I will probably not come here for a dinner but would gather friends and come for karaōke.

Onegin, pronounced Oh-nay-yin was my one look into a night of Russian camaraderie. Russian tearoom décor with adorable teacup-like loveseats, low chandelier lighting, and beautiful painted ceilings. My co-workers and I came here for the infused Vodkas, which are $ 5 during Happy Hour(4−7p). Happy Hour also includes $ 5 wines and beers so I will definitely be coming back, even if not for the great service we received and relaxed atmosphere. It was quite empty for the size of the space and most of the other patrons were older ladies. The infused vodkas are definitely worth trying– go for the Horseradish if you’re comfortable with picklebacks. The fruitier ones are much sweeter and have a nectar quality to them. As for the traditional Russian offerings, we tried Salo(cured Pig fat), Salted Herring(raw), and marinated Wild Mushrooms. Most everything was cold and pretty chewy. The salo looked like a long slice of butter, and was not as soft as expected; it was offered on top of very thin, dense triangles of bread with spring onions and some sort of mustard. The salted herring was quite good, but only if you’re comfortable with raw seafood. The wild mushrooms were slightly sweet and cold, but not quite filling. I’m looking to come back and try the hot dishes as the one we ordered(pan fried potatoes with wild mushrooms) was probably the best suited to accompany our cold vodka. Everything was pretty expensive in my mind, but cultural authenticity usually requires a higher cost to flesh out an accurate experience. They also look after you here– After ordering multiple rounds of shots and beers, our lovely bartender Katya served us a free round of various Infused Vodka flavors!

First time visiting and I was impressed. Dates, family gathering or group congregation all are catered by Onegin. The moderate lights and the trendy design made me forget that I was in New York City. I felt like I entered Russia. Great nights with two of my friends. Though Onegin is famous of its arsenal infused vodka, their virgin drinks are great as well. Well, says my friend who does not drink. Three of us started with free infused drinks cuz that’s what first time customers benefit from. However, the price of the second is actually reasonable compared to ordering shots drinks in most clubs or lounges. Without being acknowledged and recommended, we ordered Red caviar with Blini and the meat platter. The price of the meat platter is a bit expensive, albeit exotically yummy. Anticipating trying the sausage that they happened to sell out, we had smoked chicken, beef tongue and etc. The way most cold cuts were made with smoking method. I had beef tongues with tacos in Mexico and I also tried beef tongue soup in Cantonese Cuisine. It seemed to me their marinated beef tongue was a bit unconventional. The service was okay in general. In such a big restaurant on a Sunday night, there happened to be only one waiter bussing around. On the other hand, I prefered the sunday night since they have live DJ playing. I’d love to save and come back for more surprises with my friends.

I think this is what Russia is really like. The vibe is club/rustic/artistic? The chairs we sat in were AWESOME! The food was interesting… a nice mix of Russian and French/European. We got glasses of Bordeaux(big glasses, nicely priced), complementary warm country bread with herb butter, the hot borscht, Siberian dumplings, and the short rib with truffle risotto. The dumplings were my favorite! They looked like ravioli but had an Asian flair and were served with sour cream. The short rib was tender… but was not served with truffle risotto. It was more like a hearty brown rice veggie mix. Overall, it was fun! I’m glad we tried it.

Very decent Russian restaurant. I had a not so good experience with making a reservation there at some point. But either than that, everything else about that place is great. I celebrated my birthday there and loved the plate of black caviar with salmon and crème fraîche, that they were able to put together for me and my friends, even though it wasn’t on the menu. They also didn’t have watermelon infused vodka that day but made it for us. They made my birthday celebration really special. The service was great and the stuff was very attentive. I go to Onegin once every couple of months and haven’t had a bad experience there yet, aside from the incident in the past. I hope they keep it up.
