I loved this quiet romantic restaurant. Candlelit tables, dark ambience, I found that place very calm and peaceful ;) I had a summer roll that was really good, my boyfriend had chicken in a pot, he said it was really good too. Also they have non alcoholic beer !

I just had as close to a perfect meal as I’ve had in a long time. We started with the seared tuna roll which was refreshing and delicious, and the rice paper crêpe which I loved. But the real highlight was the seafood sate soup. It was hearty and satisfying, packed with seafood and just the right size. I am scheming about the next time I can go and order exactly the same thing. And it doesn’t break the bank: 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 soups and it came to $ 28 each before tip.

What a great little place this is! I’m a big fan of Vietnamese food, but usually stick to my tried-​and-​true spots in NYC to avoid disappointment. My partner and I were stuck in Chelsea with a few hours to kill, and came across this little spot. It was totally empty at 5:30, so I was a little concerned, but the ambiance was homey and romantic (if a little dimly lit), and I had a great meal. The menu has a few «classic» dishes (beef phở, vermicelli bowls, etc.) but also includes some more unique dishes that set it apart from other Vietnamese joints I’ve tried in the city. Not a lot of veg options on the main menu, but there are plenty of sides and starters that might appeal to meat-​averse types. Everything we ate was perfectly seasoned, satisfying but not heavy, and well-​portioned for the price point. I’ll be back!

Omai’s Shrimp Ravioli is addicting and worth ordering it each time you go. Their bun bo hue is also flavorful and good. Service was quick and atmosphere gives off a nice vibe.

Never been disappointed. The food is fresh and light and the service is great.
I even came here once with my silly 4 year old niece and the staff handled her brilliantly (sometimes kids just need a little attention).
I always take friends and family here when they want to remain near Penn station– lord knows THAT neighborhood is terrible and overpriced for food. It has crisp linen service, a quiet venue and affordable prices. From in-​laws to random visitors, people are always complimentary (including the ones that are picky or wary of Asian cuisine).

Omai is worth visiting just for the grilled eggplant appetizer. It’s buttery, savory and just slightly charred. Quite possibly the most delicious eggplant I’ve ever had.
The rest of the vegetarian options at Omai were just average. Not bad, but nothing special.
The service was excellent and the restaurant is really cute. If I’m in the area, I would eat here again and just order two plates of grilled eggplant with a side of sticky rice for a delicious dinner.

Omai — Just say YUMMMMMM!
Came for dinner with a group of foodies (who share!). What a hidden gem. Worth the trek. The menu is daunting, as everything sounds wonderful, and proves to be once it arrives. Not a bad thing on the table, which for us included spring rolls, duck salad, grilled scallop and prawn over vegetables, snapper in chili lime sauce, 3 different soups (seafood dumpling, lemongrass beef, and seafood sate soup all outstanding), eggplant and okra. The ambiance is warm, trendy and not noisy. and the prices reasonable. We will be back to order the things we didn’t try last time!

What an experience. Was brought here by a close Vietnamese friend and turned out to be the perfect first experience with Vietnamese cuisine.
Everything is so fresh and light but at the same time filled with flavor. I don’t know what magical marinade they use for their beef but it is so juicy and so incredibly delicious.

Let me tell you the entrée portions were large and we ate all of it. All of it!!! And honestly we were full but did not feel sick at all because the ingredients were all so light. Just so happy that I was introduced to this restaurant. Enjoy!

Absolutely love Omai. The dishes are varied, full of complex flavors and well executed. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting. And the price is just right. Although I can definitely spend quite a bit tasting all the menu has to offer.

Working in NYC for a few days. Found the Vietnamese restaurant Omai while on a shopping trip to Ralpha. Started the meal with a seared tuna spring roll followed by a pan seared rice with ginger chicken hot clay pot that included basil, broccoli, carrots and celery. The flavored and textures were marvelous, real treat. The ginger sauce was just right.
The ambience is intimate with candlelit tables and wall mounted luminaries. The service was excellent.
I love Vietnamese food, Omai in NYC is excellent ranking up there with my favorite establishment, Hanna’s Vietnamese Bistro in Los Gatos.

My husband and I regularly order from Omai — it’s just delicious!
Omai salad and Tilapia Bun are a must try!
We also usually get the curry vegetables which are nicely cooked al dente and the curry sauce is out of this world.
Lovely people work there and the customer service is great — one of our favorites in NYC!

Wish the place had more vegetarian options but ended up ordering the vegetarian rolls with spicy bean sauce and lemon crusted tofu as my meal. The rolls were delicious but I wasn’t a fan of the tofu. Overall, a nice cozy place with good service.

I met up with my fantasy league basketball commissioner John Atkinson (check out his band Aa) and my friends Alexis and Jenny, both of whom I hadn’t seen in a few years! (Plus Alexis’s partner Rajiv who came late). Food was OK, but nothing special. I’ve eaten at hole in the walls with better phở and rolls than here. What can I say: sometimes in NYC, the price can be disaggregated into décor (75%)/food (25%). Better stuff elsewhere.

This is a place in our neighborhood we’ve been wanting to try. We kept walking by it for months and finally we gave it a try. The food was pretty good and quick. Service was ok. Food was a little salty and we sat for a while through dinner with an empty glass of water. Ambiance is quiet, intimate, and dark inside.
Would recommend the Crunchy Spring Rolls (Cha Gio), Egg Noodles with vegetables, shrimp, chicken, and pork (Mi Xoa). Would also recommend the spicy beef salad (Goi Bo). The beef was tender and came with fresh vegetables and lettuce.
We ordered the chicken with lemongrass (Ga Xa Ot) but it tasted more like an Indian dish to be honest. Wish it had a little more of a lemongrass hint to it. It came with jasmine rise which we enjoyed.
Would go back to try other dishes.

The best Vietnamese restaurant of the many I have been to – excellent, interesting monkfish; ribs; tofu, tilapia, filtered coffee. The eggplant, summer rolls and okra were also hits. Subtle but very flavorful and varied sauces.
Cute, cozy. atmosphere.
Apps $ 10 or less; most entrees in the teens.

Came here for dinner with some friends and had a nice time. When we arrived, I asked if we could have the table in the window, but the woman said that someone had already requested it. She then proceeded to seat us at the furthest table from the window, in the back of the restaurant. That seemed strange but it wasn’t such a big deal. The service was efficient, and the food was very good. We shared a couple appetizers (the eggplant was delicious) and had a variety of entrees from noodles to soups to the Omai salad. Everything was very good. And the bartender has a nice pour, which I always appreciate.

My parents first introduced me to OMAI. Im Vietnamese and my mom is seriously a good cook… Every dinner party she would have with my dad’s work friends, new neighbors, Etc. She always gained new fans. I like to think I have a good idea of great Vietnamese flavors :)
In my opinion, OMAI is good Vietnamese food. The flavors are cleaner than the usual Chinatown spot (which I also enjoy). OMAI is a little more delicate perhaps. Also, a nice difference from other NYC Vietnamese restaurants, is its décor: clean white table cloths, simple and pleasant. A refreshing break from the usual fluorescent lit, louder Viet spots.
Nice and crispy cha gio. The phở was flavorful and had a good balance. You know the broth is good when you don’t have to add additional condiments to it

The place is very trendy, but food was somewhat mediocre. Phở Bo was definitely a disappointment in both content, amount, and price (stick with the Chinatown ones). All they had were a few slices of beef, small amount of rice noodles, bean sprouts, and broth. The bowl caters more to the less daring (lacking the usual variety in traditional Phở), and you’ll probably still come out hungry after. At least the wait staff were polite…

Well, when you walk in the woman speaks French and/​or there were a large amount of foreigners. But once you get passed that, the food was brilliant. There were 5 of us for $ 250 including 2 bottles of decent wine. It’s not terribly pricey, but if you treat it like Tapas you’ll get a lot of food for not a lot of money.
GET THE SEABASS/​FISH COURSES! They are absolutely brilliant. Cooked well, and are HUGE! Also, get the vietnamese coffee. It’s DELICIOUS and they have a really cool glass that it gets poured into.
