This review is not so much for the restaurant itself but for the shady dishonest people who work/frequent this establishment. I recently used a very popular car service app and accidently left my phone in the vehicle. I realized immediately and tried to log into my account using my friend’s phone to retrieve the driver by the name of Adil’s number but due to privacy policy they wouldn’t provide it. They did however unsuccessfully message the driver but that’s all they would do. Frustrated, I went to social media and a friend put me in touch with a detective in Brooklyn who using the drivers name and license plate info was able to track the guy down. Another friend with contacts at a cell service provider was able to get ahold of the thief who was holding my property for a ransom if $ 40(lovely!) During this time, I used«phone locator» to track my own phone all around BK and finally to Old Baku. My large, intimidating boyfriend and I drove all the way to BK and he walked into this Den of Crooks asking about Adil & my phone but everyone working and dining there denied any knowledge about the stolen phone. I made him go back in and try to go all the way to the back of this SHADY«private club» and when he did, a woman working there had my phone in her coat pocket and refused to hand it over. So he snatched it from her hand and surprised me with it in the car. PLEASE, IFYOU’RECONSIDERINGDININGHERETHINKTWICEABOUTSPENDINGYOURMONEYWITHDISHONESTCROOKS. THEREAREOTHERNEGATIVEREVIEWSONTHISPLACEANDTHESHADYPEOPLEWORKINGTHERE. This stuff might work in your home country, but it doesn’t fly here. WHATGOESAROUNDCOMESAROUND. Be thankful I only showed up to Old Baku with 1 level headed man. The next person you steal from might come with an army. Insha’allah!

Guys, Do not even think to go there!!! They are bunch of dishonest crooks! The worst restaurant in the whole NYC. Never had such worst experience in life. Worst than restaurants in Napoly and Palermo in Italy… If you decided to test your luck: Check your bill very carefully!!! 1. They Included more items than we actually ordered: We ordered 4 shish kebabs. The waiter assistant brought them piled up on one plate(it was done on purpose!). When asked how many item are there — he told there are three of them. The bill reflected four and the manager declined to remove one saying the assistant told us the number by mistake! 2. The bill reflected higher prices than actually was listed in menu!!! In certain cases the price was tripled!!! The waiter explained it by «old menu». It’s assumed there is one with higher prices(what the ridiculous dirty rotten scoundrels)… In case of dispute call police without thinking! ********************************************************************* ! !. ., !!! : 1., .(). ! . 2.. !!!. ” ” $ 2.: $ 3 $ 3($ 6),. 3(, !!!) -, , :) «». !

I hate that they are cash only… despite that I really wanted to love it… espc since it’s byob At first you walk in and it’s a bunch of booths… but if you keep going you will see an open galley kitchen… just beyond which is a great outdoor spot for spring or summer … to the right is a fire pit for grilling and to the left three doors 2 of which are private seating and the third an arcade. Just beyond that is the family style seating. I loved the décor and if it was one of the warmer months which for November it’s amazing but not enough for me to sit in the back area without heat. Although the space beyond the courtyard is enclosed it’s too cold to take off your jacket. They claim to have heat but they never turn it on. The bread is delicious and hot when it arrives. Next the eggplant salad flavorful but not impressive The grape Leaves were excellent 9 in total The balls for kebabs were out yet the ones with home fries they had — I found this odd Either way that was a really good dish very tender too. The lamb ribs were super fatty The chicken kebab seemed undercooked to me The red sauce was not great a bit bland And the fries were unique Def not Idaho potatoes maybe the blue or yucca style couldn’t quite place them still good though Sis felt it was all too salty

Epic fail today. Bland kabobs, dead fries. Parisian price of $ 40 for what is essentially half pound of meat(half of it lamb, half ground chicken) and a plate of potato corpses. Ugh.

Best Azerbaijanian food in town! Call in advance to get a table in the backyard. Everything there is set up as if you were in one of the backyards in Old Baku(the Baku’s inner city) or in one of the Apsheron summer houses(dachas). They also serve food that common in any Russian restaurants but if you want to get the full picture and taste of Azerbaijanian food, order kutabs with meat or greens, dolma, dushpara(meat ravioli in broth with herbs), bozbash/piti(also in broth), jiz-biz, shish kebabs-stergeon, lamb, chicken, plov(pilaf) — with different topings, ask what they have(my advice to ask prior to getting there, because it requires more than half an hour preparation). Bread(churek) and fresh salad. Enjoy!

Yesterday we decided to went out with my friends for a dinner. Usually we go to the places where we have been already but this time we wanted to try something new. Long time ago one of my friend recommended me Old Baku but unfortunately i didn’t have a chance to check it out. So we got there approximately at 9 pm. There 2 rooms: one is inside another is outside in the backyard. We decided to sit outside. The ambience was great. Felt like you are really in the old Baku city. A lot picures of the city on the walls. Walls are made from wood. Now about the food. The best shish kebab i have ever tried iny life. Meat was not too dry and not too fat but at the same time very juicy. It’s also comes with a nice shish kebab sauce. And overall all the food is delicious. I definitely recommend this place.

Very nice café. I went out yesterday with my friends. Food is really delicious. The best shish kebab that i have ever tried. Prices are affordable. The design is old school. It seems to you that you are in Azerbaijan. Plus you can ask for backgammon and play while you are waiting for your order. I definitely recommend this place. If you are looking for a great dinner then this is the place where to be.

Place is very racist. Tries to enter and claimed they were closed but then allowed others of their own ethnicity in to eat.

Take the F train many stops into Brooklyn, ring the doorbell if the door is locked, walk back past an abandoned counter and through the kitchen, and you arrive at one of the best dining experiences in all of New York. I’ve been on annual to semi-annual treks to Old Baku since its opening four years ago, but avoided posting a review. I just wanted to one little place to serve as my little secret, something stashed in Ditmas Park. That’s selfish and now that others have written, I’ll add my rave to the pile. From what I understand, the ownership here is an Azeri Jewish family who came to New York from Baku with a stopover in Israel. The food, however, didn’t pick up many Middle Eastern elements, it’s Azeri with a dash of some pan-Soviet cuisine. Unless you speak Russian or Azeri, get ready to either completely relinquish control over what you eat or do a lot of explaining. There is now an English menu(this did not exist for a while) and a couple of waiters on any given night who speak the language pretty well. If you call ahead for a reservation, better to have a Russian friend do this. You’ll do fine letting them order for you, but I generally require some customization. First off, the rather ordinary salad that they will want to give everyone can be skipped in favor of more interesting appetizers. You’ll also need more of the giant circular breads to accompany both the first and second courses. I also fiddle with the roast meat, which is the main attraction. The liver that comes on the main platter has to go, replaced with additional lamb. Stugeon, perhaps the single greatest thing on the menu, won’t come unless you ask for it(do). And skip the dessert they’ll want to bring — usually there is so much meat that it’s completely necessary. What is ordered, keep your eyes open while waiting for it. In tiny, certainly not-up-to-code rooms you’ll see middle-aged Azeri men smoke and laugh and tell stories. Some nights there’s an older Russian man with a laser who will sing songs from Russian, Azerbaijan and very, very accented English. He doesn’t take requests. I’ve seen some parties who grill their own meat, although this never seems to be offered to me. It’s bizarre and wonderful, and with a group of six people doesn’t cost a whole lot. You can bring your own beer or order vodka in various sizes from the waiter. Count on $ 50 a person, all in, but with six or more it’ll probably be less. And it will be a wonderful experience.

This used to be my favorite place just until yesterday. I went with a few of my friends and they sat us outside in the cabin. It was freezing, I felt like a dog. The heat wasn’t working we’ll so it felt like we were eating outside. Everything on the menu they didn’t have. We ordered Plov they bought us regular yellow rice that wasn’t even seasoned, charged us 7 $ for it. The shish kebabs were not bad that’s why I gave them that extra star. They really over charged us and the food wasn’t all that wow. I don’t think I’ll be coming back here after yesterday.

Having never been to Azerbaijan, I really didn’t know what to expect. My friend and I went here for lunch and were led to the back room. The atmosphere was pretty cool with loads of photos and maps of the«old country.» The food was only meh, though it seemed pretty authentic. We were underwhelmed by the meat portion and they put our two(different) orders on the same plate which led to confusion.

This is my favorite place ever. There’s a huge patio out back, service is amazing, You can bring your own drinks, really affordable. It’s really fun to go with a big group of friends and share a bunch of stuff. Their dolma is the best !! I usually end up having a feast of dolma, old Baku salad, Greek salad, beet salad, bread, dolma, lamb kebab, chicken kebab. And they always bring out fruit at the end, complimentary ! It’s a nice atmosphere and they have great middle eastern food.

I’ve been here twice with my coworker who is Azerbaijani so he knew what to order. The food is amazing and super authentic. The bread outstanding. Loved the Old Baku salad and the meats! We left full and happy. It’s like being in Baku without the flight!

I’m taking one star right off the bat for their«C» rating. On to the actual review: I came here last week with my date. Having moved to the neighborhood a few months ago, I’m still exploring the area but wasn’t sure about this place. It’s not very inviting from outside, looks small, and seemed to cater to their regular customers — and yeah, that«C» rating. As we came in, we were told we could not sit in the front booths even though they were all empty(they looked cozy and clean) because«people don’t eat there». The man who told me this did not speak English very well(I believe the owners/regulars are mostly from Azerbaijan) so I’m pretty sure he meant something else as he led us to the back area. Admittedly I was a little scared, but the narrow hall leads to a semi-open backyard area where several tables were occupied. It’s much bigger than it looks from the outside. The décor is nice, old-worldly, old school neighborhood-ish. The only available menus were under the glass table topper. Not all of the translations helped(does anyone know what the appetizer«hash» is?) but for the most part we knew we wanted meat. So we ordered the big BBQ meat platter that included chicken, chicken liver, beef, lamb, and a side of fries. I’m not a fan of liver but I can safely say that the chicken/beef/lamb was cooked and marinated very well. The bread was excellent, but then again, I’m a sucker for carbs. We also ordered the cold beet root salad, which had tender strips of beet in a creamy consistency — but no evidence of actual cream. Our waiter did not speak English very well so he selected my beer and brought us a salad that was literally scallions, parsley, and cucumbers — not cut up mind you, but the actual leaves and everything. I was happy with his suggestions and the overall meal, but I can see how more discerning tastes might have an issue with this place. Either way, I’ll be back.
