I walk past this place all the time but finally checked it out recently. Perfect place for a somewhat casual birthday party. We had a group of around 10 people and were lucky enough to snag a table outside. I remember thinking that we had completely over-ordered, seeing as we got the majority of pizzas on the menu and since it’s #beachseason201610 girls should probably not be eating that many carbs, but we certainly found a way to absolutely annihilate every single pie. Two important things to note: The good: it’s BYOB The not so good: It’s cash only So just make sure you come prepared with doe in hand and bottles of rose and you should be good to go and have a blast of a night. If it’s a birthday celebration, they will sing happy birthday and bring out a fabulous nutella birthday pie. We told ourselves we weren’t going to finish that, but i’d say the entire thing was gone in approximately 38 seconds. Definitely a good birthday spot for a fun time!

Great first experience at this restaurant, some of the best pizza I have had in New York City and a staff that was an absolute pleasure to interact with.

Food was pretty salty, service was terrible. Didn’t tell us it was cash only until the check came.

Good Neapolitan pizza, a bit pricey but worth it every once and a while. Definitely prefer the ambiance of the downtown location.

I went of a date here last night and had a great experience. It felt like the hottest day of year so I definitely wanted to take advantage and dine outside after being cooped up all winter long. Our hostess was friendly and very accommodating. We waited probably about 15 minutes before we were seated. And though it is small, they make pretty good use of their space making enough room to dine and to walk through the restaurant without brushing up against other tables and chairs. We also got there close to 10pm so we weren’t rushed out. We were able to dine, talk and really enjoy our time. Now onto the food: it was REALLYGOOD! I love brick oven pizza so little wrong can really be done. We had half Margherita and half Numero 28. Both were really good. I look forward to trying one with buffalo mozzarella the next time I’m. Note: it is pricey. They charge $ 3.50 for a can of orange Pellegrino. –_-… It really went well with the pizza though. :-/ Tip: They take CASHONLY.

We ordered a San Daniele pizza(35 dollars for that) and a wrong pizza came(tomato sauce and mozzarella) instead. We called them and the guy came back in a few minutes to pick up the wrong one. We called back asking for the pizza a hour after that and the rude attender said that«the chef» said he will need time or they can return!!! Thanks for say that after more than one hour waiting… Would it take 2 hours to make the right one?! Afffffffff horrible experience!!!

Went here for a birthday dinner, took an age to take order, 3 pizzas took a long time to arrive, very cramped, $ 10 per person to byob, regardless how much or little you drink, then to top it all off they pushed us out the door after our meal was finished. The only positive of the night and the reason this place gains any credability is the pizza was very good. Shall not return

Randomly walked I here off the street while visiting from California for some pizza. From great prices to a super friendly and knowledgeable manager this was a great experience. The pizza was fantastic. One was the right size to serve lunch for 3 hungry travelers who had a crappy hotel buffet for breakfast.

The pizza was decent, but SOEXPENSIVE! $ 33.00 for a medium Margherita Reginella with super thin crust so barely filled two people. Looks so much smaller in person than it did in the photos we saw on here. Not worth $ 33. Totally over priced! Cash only joint too.

My dutch friend suggested me this place. The ambience was pretty cool, and I felt like I was in France. Waiters were kind and my whole experience here was good. I also loved the pizza! It was big enough for my friend and I. We enjoyed our dinner with some delicious draft beer from France. The only disadvantage is that they accept only cash.

I’ve been to two of their locations. The food hits the spot, but the places are managed so poorly… Walked in 9:30 on a Friday without a reservation, so I’m not expecting the world. I say were 3 people, a very polite and pleasant hostess says no problem. Well, we ended up being told«5 minutes» three times over the course of an hour. It quickly became clear that the hostess had no idea what she was doing. Two examples: 1) a couple came in behind us without a reservation who she told«yea so I have a table for 3 that’s reserved, but they’re 5 minutes late, so I’ll give it to you»…What?! And 2) going up to a table by the waiting area and asking them to leave because of waiting reservations. We were finally seated, but only because they physically took a table away from a group of 6 that was using 3 tables, making them squish together so we could be accommodated. While I was appreciative of the effort, it was not the right answer for us nor the other party. Food is good(pretty expensive though), but it can be a real hassle to deal with the staff/operations they’ve got going on.

Our second time visiting this fine establishment! They are on Scoutmob and after you spend over $ 20, your bill is –50%, so it’s a great deal… We ordered 2 flavors of the special pizza, it came on one gigantic thing, halved into our choices. One half had prosciutto and truffle cream, the other half had shrimps and greens. Both halves were amazing! Service was great, the place was crowded! Turns out it’s also BYOB, with only a $ 10 fee per person for corking. Awesome chill place, yummy food, easy menu, great with Scoutmob!

I went here after hearing so many good things about this place. I recently moved to East Village so I’ve heard that this is definitely a spot to hit. I would give the food a five star rating it was actually that amazing. We got half numero 28 pizza and have tartufo pizza. First of all it’s awesome that they were able to accommodate us when we wanted half/half. Second of all, OMG the pizza is amazing. But the real hidden gem is the gnocchi. I feel like people go here and don’t really get the pasta dishes but the gnocchi is definitely one worth getting. The sauce that they use in their red pizzas and the gnocchi is just so smooth and flavorful! And the buffala cheese is just out of this world. They also have a great wine selection, and have the option of BYOB. However be careful they charge you per person for having your own booze. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody visiting the city. Possibly one of the best pizza spots.

I had dinner here last night and really liked the pizza, and the accommodating staff made it a great experience. Please note that it is cash only, though. Some background: I called at 7:00 and asked if they would hold a table for 3 for 7:15, and they hesitated because they had reservations for 8:30. Most places would have automatically squeezed in my reservation, and if my dinner ran late the party at 8:30 would be out of luck and just have to wait. It might have bothered some folks that they told me I could only come at 7:15 if we finished by 8:30, but I respect that they care about being able to seat the next party promptly. Furthermore, since my group was just looking for a quick, casual bite, this was no problem. Unfortunately, we got a little held up and didn’t arrive until 7:25, and when we arrived they had seated another group thinking we were not coming. There were still a few open tables, and I was able to convince the hostess that we would be having a very quick meal and could be done in an hour. The experience: I ordered the personal size Capricciosa pizza which comes with mushrooms, ham, olives, and artichokes. All of the toppings were super fresh and distributed evenly(a pet peeve of mine). The service was attentive and we were in an out in an hour, so everyone was happy. I liked the vibes at Numero 28, and you could see we weren’t the only young group enjoying the atmosphere. I would definitely return.

I know I gave this restaurant a 5 star rating last time as well but I just wanted to comment on how well they handled my going-away dinner last night. In all honesty, I was kind of a nightmare guest. I kept adding guests throughout the day, ending up with a table of 17. Some of my guests were late. I had a giant poster that I wanted all my guests to sign so we clogged up the entire back end of the restaurant, etc. But Massimo(spelling?) took care of everything. It all ran smoothly. There was a very fair fixed price menu that left everyone very full. Food was delicious as always(more in-depth review of the food below) and everyone left happy. Thank you again for making my last night in New York memorable, Numero 28! —- Prior Review —- Boy oh boy. I just got back from dinner at Numero 28 and I am still reliving eating that pizza. I’ve literally replayed it twice in my head already– once was at the restaurant right after dessert. So I went here with a coworker, lured by a Scoutmob deal and like most restaurants in this area, this place was dellliiiccciiiooousss. It’s a cute, cozy space that opens up and has street dining when the weather’s nice. We had two servers, both Italian(I’m assuming) and both nice. I ordered the Numero 28 pizza with buffalo mozzarella, speck, truffle cream and mushrooms. My coworker ordered the lasagna. You could smell the truffle cream sauce from across the table and it was SOGOOD. The speck was sliced so thinly and there was just a perfect amount of meat in each bite. I devoured those 14″. My coworker’s lasagna was pretty good too. I kind of wish they came around with some extra Parmesan for the lasagna or freshly cracked black pepper for the pizza but maybe that’s me just being a fatty/cheese-lover. For dessert, we split the in-house tiramisu, which was really nice. It came in a cup which I feared was too small for one person(I like my desserts), let alone two people, but by the end of it, I was stuffed. Be warned though, this place is CASHONLY. They have an ATM in the back, but ain’t nobody got time for ATM fees. Overall, I’d definitely return. This place was great!

Came here for a large dinner/birthday last night. We got a $ 45 all you can eat option with Bruschetta and salads. This was a pretty awesome deal. However, it was a lot of pizza! When each«pie» came out my eyes were wide open but my tummy was so full. So much for a low-carb diet haha. Our waitress suggested the«D.O.C, the parma and the numero 28» but I honestly tried so many different slices I couldn’t remember all of them. I think my favorite was the parma. I tried a shrimp one which was mediocre. Service was not so great but our party was pretty large.

Don’t like the pizza here. It’s like they throw a few ingredients on top of dough and they charge you 30 dollars for it. The individual pizza I think it’s better made. Don’t order the big ones you’ll end up eating a slice with no cheese another slice without prosciutto and so on. The pasta is way better like their black ink linguine with shrimp. Great choice! Then the Nutella pizza is a good crunchy and sweet dessert to share among few people. It’s kind of an expensive place for what you get. Another fucked up pizza!

Excellent! NOTKIDDING I am Italian, I live here and I must say: it’s so hard to find such great-authentic Italian cuisine in NYC! Tonight I had the best«Parmigiana di melanzane» in years –it felt like my grandma from Italy had made it for me :)-, an outstanding Pizza al metro and … u-n-b-e-l-i-e-v-a-b-l-e desserts –you must try«Napoleon» and«Tiramisu»!- Plus… The manager is an impeccable young gentleman, the waiters extremely well mannered and kind. You MUSTGO! Loved it

We had pretty good pizza at the very Italian eatery, Numero 28. We went around 1:15PM on a Sunday and arrived to a mostly empty restaurant except for one guy watching way-too-loud futbol on a huge projected screen. We had the Arancino Siciliano app which was tasty though it could’ve been heated up a little better. Then we shared a medium half Numero 28, half Parma pizza. Both of us have been to Italy and we can attest that Numero 28’s style of pizza is very Italian, but it wouldn’t be anything special in Italy. But for NYC it’s pretty tasty pizza. We’d go back if in the area.

Mad props for their offering of a solid wood-fired pizza, and some awesome apps. The Peroni(only draft beer they offer) was crisp, refreshing, and an ample pour for the price. The Arancini Siciliana was one of the best I have ever had! Kind of wish we’d ordered two of those and skipped the calamari… though the calamari was also delightful! Could have used more vodka sauce(and for it to have been spicy… as the menu claimed it would be)…but obviously fried in fresh oil, as they came out light, airy, crisp, and very light blond. Hearty portion, too! I don’t see the pizza we ordered on their online menu(the one you receive in-house is much larger than what they show on the website). But the five cheese pizza was awesome, and the last one under the red sauce pizzas with spicy sausage and kale was also very good(though could have used a more even distribution of the toppings). Crust was on point, with just the right char… though could have been a smidge thicker, as the pizza with red sauce and heavy toppings couldn’t sustain the weight of it all. Still, left pleasantly full, though not overly so. Service was about what you’d expect at a family joint in Italy: one friendly though somewhat dismissive female server, one pacing and always watching hyper male server, and one«only friendly to tables with attractive women» more handsome male server. But, hey; none of them hassled us as Groupon customers. So big bonus there! Wouldn’t call it a destination spot… but would definitely hike a few avenues if in the East Village and wanting a solid sit down Italian option. side bar: the pasta bolognese the young woman next to us ordered looked tremendous, and was a super generous portion.
