In a rush for lunch? Nuchas offers hot empanadas with no wait time. They named me the bag before I could even finish paying. Portobello empanada was way too salty. Felt like I was eating condensed mushroom soup. The chewy mushroom was a little overwhelmed by spinach, but the flavor was still earthy and good. The filling didn’t taste overcooked, which was nice. The dessert empanada, with apples and Nutella was better– it was reminiscent of McDonalds apple pies, but less processed. The less delicate empanada dough doesn’t really suit pastries, but it was a fun combo that wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet.

if you need a quick bite to eat instantly available no wait for it to be cooked this stand is for you. their empanadas are very scrumptious and if you buy 3 of them you get a dollar off. my favorite is their short rib empanada and the rib meat inside was very tender and they recently added a bacon empanada to their menu. and for you veggie lovers or vegetarians out there they have great veggie empanadas as well! if your in a rush for food this place is for you in the heart of the big city!

Nothing to brag about! Went off of my diet to try these and it was so not worth it! The Portobello empanada should be called a spinach empanada as it had more spinach than mushrooms. All in all — a pass!

So favorites are Argentine, steak and oh my GOD — the Nutella apple cranberry pear… Seriously scrumptious. I have eaten 3 in one sitting.

Came here for a quick bite because I didn’t want hot dogs, pizza, etc. My boyfriend and I got the spicy chicken, BBQ chicken, and the sweet empanada with 2 drinks and it came out to $ 20. I was disappointed because I was raised eating empanadas from my parents that are from 2 different Latin American countries and these did not satisfy me at all. I broke the chicken empanadas in half and the dough completely crumbled and the empanada was not even half full. It had a good flavor but not anything amazing. The dessert empanada was good though, it had apples, cinnamon, Nutella and some other things. I don’t think I would return.

Great snack to grab when you are in the Time Sq/Theater District area. I usually grab a few for everyone when we are going for a matinée show on weekends as a pre-theater snack. Everyone has loved it so far. Yummy!

I’m not certain if this is the same location I went to in Times Square, but the empanadas exceeded my expectations. I stopped by twice during my time in the city and both times service and quality were good. I had the Argentine and spicy chicken on both occasions. Perfect on the go snack to cure my hunger pangs before dinner!

Coming out of the Broadway show rather late, I was searching for my late night snack. Not bad at all — for a food truck. I tried the spicy cheese empanadas and the dessert one… The latter was filled with some kind of apple, Nutella, and cranberry mixture. I also got the hot chocolate which was surprisingly delicious! Nothing to write home about… Much less Unilocal about… But it did hit the spot.

At Nuchas, the menu is simple, it’s ALL empanadas and they are ranked from most to least popular(top to bottom) for each category of empanadas — Meat, Veggie and Sweet. Since it was 3 empanadas for a $ 8, I decided to get my bang for the buck(It’s 1 for $ 3). If you have a big appetite then you’ll be a bit disappointed as the empanadas are pretty small. I ordered the 2 most popular meat options(Argentine and Spicy Chicken) and the most popular veggie option(Portobello). All of them were soft and had plenty of filling. For each one, I got a good taste of the flavors. Surprisingly, my favorite out of the 3 was the Portobello, mostly because I love mushrooms mixed with spinach and cheese! It had a truffle taste to it. The other 2 were good, but not anything spectacular to me. The empanadas were all good and tasty, but there was nothing here that completely blew me away. It was just average for me. Also, the price was a bit higher than I would have preferred for such small empanadas. If it was $ 2 each I would’ve been satisfied with that.

As «food that can be obtained quickly from a cart-like contraption in the middle of Times Square» goes, this place is pretty legit. As someone who’s not a huge veggie person, I wish that that veggies in their empanadas were a little less«conspicuous.» That is to say, smaller and more ground up. But their flavors are all really tasty. Especially liked the spicy chicken and the cheese one. Odd as it might sound since it’s not what they’re known for, the true standouts that would cause me to return were the green tea lemonade and the sweet croissants. Major«yum» factor on both. The empanadas themselves are a little pricey. 3 bucks a pop, and you definitely need multiple to make a meal. Thankfully they have a 3/$ 8 deal that softens the blow a little bit.

I was having one of my «true pescatarian» days, but wanted to show my boss’s boss a good culinary time in the dead zone of South Village. Lo and behold: Nuchas beckoned. Unrepentant meat for him, vegetarian fillings for me. And boy did they deliver. I got all three – the Porto, Spicy Cheese, and Shiitake Curry – and they were just delicious. The Spicy Cheese was my favorite. If I had just one complaint, it was that the Shiitake could’ve used more seasoning. But better to be under-salted than over-salted, si? Perfect weekday lunch material.

I love food trucks and food stands and this whole movement. So I was excited on my short trip to NYC to try out this place since it was right near my hotel, but at $ 4 a piece and they are not that big, I really was expecting a little more… The flavor just didn’t pack all of the spices that I was hoping for .The pastry part of the empanada was also dry, so you really needed a ton of sauce to make this empanada happen and at least 2 – 3 of them to make it into a meal. So for $ 12 to make that meal without a drink or anything, I dunno. It should have been more exciting. I got two of them and the ground beef with onions and peppers and scallions was the best one by far, so I would stick with that flavor if I were you. Really not a horrible spot, but not an amazing spot either especially with how much food there is in NYC…

I stop by this place all the time, because I LOVE the empanadas. My favorite is definitely the portobello mushroom. I also enjoy that I can get 3 for $ 8, more than enough food for lunch. Also, the empanadas are baked and not fried, so I don’t feel so bad about eating them. Definitely check this place out :).

Good and fast empanadas stand with very good vegetarian options. The best part about the place is that each empenada is stamped so you won’t be surprised biting into to it or trying to figure out which is which! I did the 3 for $ 8 deal and choose the curry vegan, portobello mushroom and spicy chicken. Of the three I would have to say my favorite was the spicy chicken and the one I would be least likely to order again is the portobello mushroom. There was so much spinach and not enough mushroom. If I’m in the area, I’ll be back.

Located in the middle of times square on the pedestrian walk way. They serve some tasty empanadas which cost about $ 3-$ 4 each. However, you can buy 3 for $ 8. The empanadas have a good flaky pie-dough like texture and unlike other empanads doesn’t have a really sweet taste to the dough. Nothing wrong with either style. Recommend the short-rib empanada. Specifics: In the heart of times square. you can grab a table on the walk way when the weather is warmer. Takes credit cards.

So each empanada is about $ 3 – 4. They are tiny. So for a full meal, you’ll definitely need at least 3 – 4, if not more. We were in Times Square hoping for some Korean food trucks for the Korean Festival, only to realize that there were no food trucks only lines. So starving, this was the closest thing. Tried both the portobello and the jambalaya. They were both average. Slightly greasy, not a lot of complexity in flavor, and as I mentioned already — tiny. I think the kicker is that I’ve gotten larger, better empanadas at food stands for $ 2. Either way, not the best deal or the best food. But immensely satisfying when you’re hungry and in Times Square. Navigating the tourists is a lot better while stuffing your face with empanadas.

Randomly came across the food truck while doing a little lunch time shopping. It worked out pretty good as I needed to grab lunch quickly on my way back to the office. Three empanadas for $ 9. I got the Spicy Cheese, Argentine, and Jambalaya. The Spicy Cheese was my favorite of the three. The filling was melty gooey and spicy. Argentine was second favorite. I liked the ground beef, onions, and potato combo, although I didn’t really like the empanada shell as much. The Jambalaya was sort of bland to me, especially when I thought it would be the most flavorful. The other thing I didn’t like as much with these empanadas is that there seemed to be a lot of air inside the shell. What should have been easy finger food got messy as the filling would just fall out after a bite. Usually they are more compact than that. Nonetheless, it was a quick hot meal. I’d get it again.

I’m a sucker for truck food especially in NYC. Their spicy chicken and argentine empanadas are delicious. Also super cheap and quick services. If you are in the Financial District during lunch hours, this is the place to grab a bite.

I know a thing or two about empanadas(or as my family calls it, pastelitos). Nuchas’ empanadas did not live up to my expectations. First off, I visited this truck while in attendance of the Afro Punk Festival(bunches of fun go read my review). Nuchas actually had one of the longer lines compared to the rest of the food trucks. Three empanadas for $ 10 is a decent deal. I waited on the line for a half hour and was expecting greatness. Nope, didn’t get that. I ordered the Spicy Chicken, Argentine and Portobello empanadas. The spicy chicken was just bad. They could’ve been more creative with that bad boy. Empanadas stuffed with mushy, spicy shredded chicken, is not my idea of an empanada. The Argentine was okay. Not bad, but not great, and definitely not memorable. Portobello empanada, DINGDINGDINGWEHAVE A WINNER. Portobello kicked Argentine’s and Spicy Chicken’s butt. Loved it, everything about it. I wasn’t expecting that amount of flavor in an all veggie empanada. Yummers! I give them three stars for that Portobello empanada and friendly customer service. Other than that, I can show you how a real empanada is made.

Nuchas is a popular savory/sweet food truck serving empanadas. These hand-held Latin American snacks come in many varieties. Ranging from $ 3 to $ 4 a piece, each of the empanada is wrapped and baked in assorted dough varieties, whether it be savory rosemary and spinach or sweet almond. The menu offers something for both meat lovers and vegetarians alike, with stuffings like short rib, spicy chicken, portobello mushroom, and shiitake curry. The empanada also comes as a dessert with apple, cranberry, and Nutella stuffings. I tried the Argentine, Spicy Chicken, and Portobello. First, the classic Argentine is filled with ground beef, onions, pepper, scallions, potatoes, and olives in white dough. Second, the Spicy Chicken has chipotle, tomatoes, onions, peppers and fresh basil in paprika dough. Finally, the Portobello is filled with mushrooms, spinach, mozzarella, and fresh herbs in spinach dough. My favorite was the Porto because I love spinach(as well as the spinach dough!). The spicy chicken was pretty good as well, but I probably wouldn’t get the Argentine because the ground beef tasted a bit… funky. Maybe the seasoning was off? I liked that these empanadas are baked and therefore not greasy! These empanadas are rather small, so an average adult would have to eat 5 of them to fill full. Considering that, it’s definitely not cheap.
