Sometimes refrains are annoying. Like that guy in the kooky hat with his Happy song, where, who knew, that kooky hat everyone is annoyed by is nowhere near as annoying as the song and how happy people are about liking Happy. Well, the refrain that makes me happy is one man, one cart, one random Midtown corner, at ungodly hours serving up knishes, pretzels, meats on sticks, and hot dogs. That’s happiness. This stand, indistinguishable from the rest of the blue and yellow colored stands in the field, stands out because on a Sunday night nearing 3am, nearing too cold in Spring time was reversing into Winter in Times Square, he stood, awake, steaming pretzels, knishes and grilling kebabs. That’s a refrain that deserves a chorus line around the block.
