Inconsistent meat. They sometimes have extremely fatty meat. Too much fat it’s unedible. I hope they can make sure the chef uses consistent cuts of beef.

Good and cheap when you are craving Vietnamese food. They have a big menu that has just about everything

An oasis in the dessert if, like me, you’ve just spent your entire budget on drinks in SoHo or the LES. If thats the case then walk your hungry and/or drunk ass down Bowery for a couple of blocks to find an amazing Vietnamese establishment. Their phở is great, that much has been covered already, but Ive also tried their vermicelli with pork/beef and their Vietnamese crêpe with shrimp and pork, both cooked equally well to traditional standards and just as affordable. If you’ve got a big appetite or you’re with other people, be sure to try their pork and crab spring rolls which are also perfectly fried every time. The restaurant is really traditional and run by Chinese Vietnamese first generation immigrants who get you your food, drinks and check incredibly efficiently while giving no fucks to the subtler notions of Western service — something completely forgivable and even comforting given the quality and price of the food and that you may not be completely sober upon entering!

Oh man. Awkward. Food was okay but service was super strange. The most interesting moment was perhaps when our server stood next to us and hovered over each of our shoulders when it was time to tip and then proceeded to read our written tips on the receipt in front of us before walking away. I’ve never had that happen to me before but honestly it felt like something my own grandfather would do so I was actually more amused and possibly even okay with it than upset. That said, I probably won’t return since there are other choices in the area for better service and food. This one just happens to be open later than most others and is a fine option if that’s the case.

I go here all the time and the food is very consistent – always good! I order a #1, which is a HUGe bowl of phở(I’m not exaggerating) and it’s only a bit more than $ 8(after tax and not including tip). Their phở is very good – not too salty and not too oniony. I also recommend trying their bahn béo — a tasty appetizer that is not easy to find at most Vietnamese restaurants in the USA. I should also point out that the service is very fast(at least when it comes to how long it takes for the phở to come to the table) and it looks like they can fit relatively large groups – perhaps a good place for a cheap business meeting?

I’m from California the home for actual Vietnamese food. Not only does this place have SHITTY atmosphere and service. The phở actually tastes like beef colored water broth. It sucks!!!

This is my all time favorite restaurant. I haven’t had Phở anywhere else that can compare. The flavor of the soup and texture of the noodle is perfect. Sure, there are some areas of the restaurant that may need a bit of improvement but the perfect bowl of Phở is most important. I’ve been a customer of this restaurant since I was a little girl and always will be.

A great Vietnamese choice in the neighborhood, even good to bring friends, as the atmosphere and cheerier and(a bit!) nicer than a lot of other joints. Staff is friendly and totally leaves you alone to while away the hours over your phở. The best things here are the phở and the grilled meats. I like how the phở can be ordered with just brisket or top loin or proteins of your choice, usually I am left staring at an empty bowl with fish ball detritus. Not here! I get the raw meat on the side and dip in to cook at my leisure. The bun is great with either grilled pork or grilled beef. They cook on skewers. –1 star overall for the lemon wedge with my phở and for only coming with basil. Please add some mint and other greens.

We had a take out. Initially the owner was nice. I asked for an extra to-go box, he hesitated. Then his wife jumped in and said, «that will be $ 2.» Seriously? Food was horrible. We had some chicken dish recommended by the owner. It was inedible and looked gross with a large chunk of chicken(mostly bone) in it. Probably the worst Vietnamese food I have had.

Phở experience today was not good. They were burning incense in the restaurant, and the smokey perfumed smell was off-putting while eating. I asked for a glass of ice water which never came. Ribeye and brisket phở arrived less than hot, with precious little meat and bland, weak, flavorless broth — and, as others have noted, a lemon(??!) wedge. The search for good phở in Chinatown continues…

It’s a gloomy chilly autumn day in NYC, and what better way to help make my sore throat and cold go away would be a big hearty bowl of phở. Except the first slurp of my broth was warm, not even hot! Big disappointment. No hot broth to soothe my sore throat today. My friend ordered the bun bo hue(which did not have the typical red spicy colored broth) and the broth was also warm as well. We were both able to just slurp and eat our broth right away. 4 stars because while the broth was not hot, the broth itself was very good– simple but flavorful. Plentiful of noodles, beef balls and rare beef. There is an extensive menu, and this place accepts credit cards.

You can definitely call me a fake phở connoisseur. Ever since my friend(phriend) introduced me to this place, I’ve been back three times. I also live almost an hour away from this place. That is how dedicated I am to eating good phở. I used to think the best phở was in Queens, but I was wrong. This place embodies everything I love about Asian cuisine. The food is flavorful, the price is low, the portions are huge, and the service is fast. I always get their #1 which is the standard phở with various cuts of beef. The beef is tender, and the broth is so good. There’s also a lot of seating, so you’re always welcome to get good phở without worrying if the place will be too crowded. I should really try other things on the menu, but the phở is just too good. Did I mention that the phở is good?

3.5 stars, but I’ll round up :) I did really enjoy this phở. The beef and the beef balls(and basically all the ‘toppings’) in my phở were exceptional relative to most phở this cheap. The beef was still rare, allowing you to cook it longer in the hot broth if you wanted or eat it as is. This meant, too, that the beef wasn’t chewy or dry as can often be the case when you get well-done beef put into hot broth and it continues to cook. The broth, however, was bland. It was very unnoteworthy and lacked flavor. I doctored it with some hoisin, sriracha and lemon(not lime :() and it was rescued. But you don’t get a deep, gentle phở broth. Instead, it’s a very, very light standard beef broth. I also had a red bean ice drink, which had coconut milk in it and was delicious. The staff was quite friendly as well. All that being said, for $ 7, New Tu Do deserves 4 stars, but my hunt for great phở in Chinatown/anywhere in New York continues.

Hands down this is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in China town. The place is pretty clean, service is acceptable(it’s Chinatown), and food is affordable & delicious. The portions are generous and not at all skimpy. Coming from Cali I’m always seeking authentic Vietnamese cuisine, especially Phở, so this place for sure hit the spot. Their phở is on point. It’s Light, full of flavors, & not too salty, just perfect! Oh yeah almost forgot… their DURIAN shake is a must try! This shake will make you forget about the horrible lingering smell because it’s just that dang good! Would I return? Writing this review makes me want a bowl of phở right about now!

It was alright, nothing bad or amazing. I came here because I had a one hour lunch break. New Tu Do has a wide selection of dishes and is inexpensive as well. The interior looks dope af. Make sure you order a $ 10 minimum if you want to pay with card. I was about $ 2 short so I paid that much in tips to get past the minimum. I’m so nice, right? I would come back here again to try the phở. Maybe I’ll bump up my rating after I try out a few more dishes.

I’ve tried just about all the phở shops in Chinatown, and I vote Tu Do as the best in town. The portions are generous, the price is cheap, and the broth is light and beefy! The staff might be a bit impatient, but hey, it’s Chinatown! In addition to the typical phở variations, they have additional combinations, including phở with grilled chicken/pork chop, with shrimp and pork slices, and with curry. I enjoy getting the grilled chicken phở as I get the best of both worlds: juicy grilled meat and delightful noodle soup! Their summer rolls are light and shrimp filled, as their spring rolls are sumptuous and totally unhealthy, but irresistible! I’ve been here countless times across different hours of the day and never had to wait. Great food, extensive menu and relatively clean spot(compared to the rest of Chinatown).

Not bad, not great. Nothing to rave about on Unilocal. Ordered a pork and spring roll noodle bowl. The serving of pork and spring rolls was a little sparse compared to other noodle bowl establishments. They sure did heap on the vermicelli noodles though. The pork was good. The spring rolls were good. The noodle bowl over all was satisfying but nothing particularly memorable. Prices meh, not bad. My noodle bowl was $ 9.75. Service was not particularly friendly. The waiters act more like robots. I like robots though so thats not really a complaint, more of an observation. Summary: Satisfying meal if craving Vietnamese food. Nothing to rave about. Interior is clean and well kept. Waiters act more or less like emotionless robots.

Not much to speak of in the way of ambiance, but who cares when the food is so good(and cheap)?? It’s clean and well-lit, with great friendly service. All of our dishes were huge, full of flavor, and delicious. The roast pork on my bun dish was perfectly tender, and the beef was great in the phở. Though NYC doesn’t have the best reputation for tasty Vietnamese food, this place does a great job in my book.

One of the best bowls of phở I’ve had in the city. Had the phở here last night after weeks of cravings and it absolutely did not disappoint. Of all the Viet places I’ve tried in NYC and the outer boroughs, this may be the best bet so far. The broth is on point, though slightly on the salty side. Full of meat flavor and the phở spices are just right. Not watered down, either. The noodles are of the right consistency and the meat(I got eye round and omosa aka tripe) was fresh and there was plenty of it. Prices range from $ 5 – 8 a bowl for phở and the bowls are large and filling. They give you the usual garnishes, but do not include any spicy pepper(jalapeño, etc). If you like your broth to have a spicy kick to it, ask them for their red chili peppers, which is a nice change from the jalapeño. A little bit goes a long way! Their spring rolls are mediocre, however, hence the minus one star. Not crispy enough and does not hold its shape at all. After a while, it became soggy with grease… kind of gross. The filling was good, however, and it comes with the usual lettuce and mint. Nuoc mam tasted good, as expected. New Tu Do is my new go-to spot for phở!

I would put New Tu Do in the same realm as Phở Grand– where dishes are authentic, generous, affordable, and pretty damn delicious. Recommend: * Any of the phos– they offer a myriad of options. The large bowls are gargantuan– and I had a hard time finishing a small bowl. * If you want a side of the super flavorful Vietnamese bbq meats– I suggest ordering the Bun Bo Lui(grilled beef with rice vermicelli) for only $ 6.95. You get as much meat as an entrée that’s double the price. I love drenching the rice vermicelli in the addicting Nuoc Mam Cham sauce(semi-sweet orange Vietnamese dipping sauce). Pros: * Takes credit cards * Good for groups– they had plenty of those round family-style tables * Clean and spacious establishment * Fast and friendly service Definitely returning here for more comforting phở and looking forward to trying out their other signature dishes. Sidenote: I’m also glad we ventured here because I discovered MessLook Hair & Spa right next door on the left, which offered full hour massages for $ 38!
