New Territory is located on the outskirt of Chinatown and you don’t see as many locals here as in other bakeries located along main roads. When I visited on late morning, I was the only customer there. The lady behind the counter was friendly. A lot of the goods weren’t on display; about ½ of the shelves were empty. I tried the pineapple cake that many recommended on this page; it didn’t disappoint! It is soft, fresh, and has a perfect cake-to-filling ratio. The little pieces of fruit in the filling adds some complexities to the texture and complements the taste. I also had a chocolate cupcake. However, it was dry and didn’t have much sweetness to it. Well that’s understandable since this is only a Chinese bakery.

*Must Try: Coconut Roll Cake. *Buttery Lemon Roll Cake is good. *Cookies are soft, and freshly baked. *Milk Tea is amazing, but the owner suggested the HK version of it(«Gorn Sic Lai Cha») and that one is even better!

Was walking down Catherine Street when my Mom and I decided to check out this bakery because of the aromatic fresh bread smell that was coming from the shop. The shop is definitely a bit further from central Chinatown, but definitely worth trying out. We got the famous raisin bread and pineapple bread loaf. The raisin bread usually sells out by the afternoon, so be sure to get there early. We got the last two and several people came in afterwards looking to pick some up. The bread was very fresh and moist, and not too oily like other breads/buns you get from other Chinese bakeries. They offer a variety of traditional chinese breads/buns as well as some western pastries. I will definitely be back soon to get some more raisin bread and try out more items. + Fresh baked breads at very reasonable prices.

Get here early, they run out before noon. I love their croissants! This bakery always has the most heavenly fresh baked bread smell, it’s irresistible.

As a foodie, I take great joy in discovering places that offer delicious eateries at reasonable prices, and this small mom-and-pop bakery shop definitely fits the bill. At first glance, I didn’t expect too much due to the nostalgic traditional Chinese décor which gave me the feeling that it was just a typical Chinese bakery in Chinatown. But as soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the friendly pastry staff. Not knowing what to order at the moment due to the abundance of delicious varieties, the friendly worker suggested the coconut bun, which is their signature pastry. Lo and behold, it was the most amazing bun I have ever had! With every bite, the creamy coconut paste simply tingled my sweet tooth cravings. It was definitely worth every 75 pennies for this sugar pastry. Needless to say, I would definitely come back again for their sweet coconut buns of joy & tasty milk tea.

Warm and friendly service. Best coconut bun&milk tea ive had in chinatown. The milk tea is always extra sweet and tasty, which goes well with the buns. Best meal of the day for me.

I was so excited to come here because of the rave reviews but apparently this store is does not like tourists. I take pictures of all the stores I go to to remember them and to write reviews and post pictures to help promote their store. I took a picture of the store front and was about to order but then I was spoken rudely to and told her I don’t have to order from her if she was going to be rude. She said«I don’t care, I don’t need your business». I hate writing bad reviews… but I hate wasting time/money on people who don’t appreciate your business more… and the owner was NOT nice.

I stopped by here for a lunchtime sweet and was greeted by a friendly older Chinese lady. I tried their coconut bun. It was on a sweetened, fluffy bread roll, and filled with coconut shreds and a sweet paste. The roll had a stripe of coconut icing and sesame seed. The filling was sweet but not too much. I like the soft crunch of the coconut flakes. At $ 0.75 a bun, you can’t go wrong.

I only order one thing here: their coconut buns(and sometimes the loaf version in the pan). Ok, two things: I also have to have it with coffee(which is fine but nothing to write home about). I’m not really a big fan of Chinese baos(thank goodness, since it would be quite tempting living in Chinatown and always carbo-loading) but this is one of the few baos I just LOVE. It’s fun to eat it while slowly peeling and eating layer by layer. The owner of the shop is also really nice. My only annoyance is that they seem to close when they feel like it without warning(or maybe when they run out of goods?) At least twice I went there to satisfy my coconut bun craving, only to find that they were closed. :(

This is THEABSOLUTEBEST Chinese bakery in Chinatown. Try the coconut bun, the bolopao(pineapple bun) and the little chocolate cakes(they’re a little salty, love it.)

This is the closest Chinese bakery to my G-Ma’s house. I’ve always walked by, but never went inside because my favorite Chinese bakery is only a few blocks away( ). I was too lazy to walk the extra blocks for coffee & breakfast so I decided to finally check this place out. There was no one inside and only one woman working behind the counter. I thought she’d be happy to see a customer, but nope– standard Chinatown service here. This bakery is strange because they had items that would be hard to hard to find in other bakeries… but they didn’t have a lot of items that would be easy to find in other bakeries. For example, they had taro-filled cookies… but no don-tot egg custards? I wanted a Pineapple Bun, but the ones at this bakery were HUGE. Like seriously twice the size of what you would normally see, so I decided against it. For $ 2.70 I ordered: 1) Coffee — Okay, but not as strong as coffee from Chinese bakeries usually is. 2) Mini Plain Bun — Delish! Light, flaky, buttery, and melts away in your mouth with a sip of coffee. 3) Chocolate Cake Roll — TOO moist! I know this is a strange thing to say about«Chocolate Cake,» but these cake rolls are supposed to be light since they’re typically enjoyed for breakfast instead of dessert. The cake roll here was too heavy. I couldn’t finish it, and if you know me, you’d know that’s crazy. No more laziness! My loyalty still belongs to Manna One!

Ohmigosh! I can’t believe that two other Unilocaler wrote about New Territory(which I still call Ruby, or Hong Bo Sheik in Chinese). I grew up eating their baked goods(they reopened a couple blocks down Catherine Street after closing a couple of years back) since I was a kid. I’m also glad another fellow Unilocaler appreciates the smells and nostalgia this«old school» bakery offers! My favorite baked good here is the coconut loaf. If you like the taste of coconut(even if you don’t), please, try this. The bread is soft, springy, and is layered with coconut flakes. I love eating it layer by layer and is a great combo with a cup of coffee and a splash of cream(no sugar). Growing up I think my mom would buy my bday cake from Ruby’s nearly every year. However, as a child I wanted Western ice cream cake, Carvel or Baskin Robbins, not a Chinese sponge cake, whipped frosting and fruit. Nowadays, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of Chinese cakes. I recently brought a 9 inch cake for a party — it was freshly baked, nicely decorated, light and great! Also the owner was able to make it within 3 hours(normally you need to pre-order a day ahead)!!! This is a neighborhood joint, but if you happen around the area, make a stop for a snack. They have some old school Cantonese baked goods that you no longer get in today’s bakeries(or quality and affordable price for the matter). Really glad they’re back. If you come soon, you’ll probably still be able to see the original store front with the«Ruby» signage along Catherine Street as the place still vacant.

this is a unique and excellent bakery. lots of expertly baked selections to savor here, my favorite is the coconut muffin, absolutely delicious! the ham and egg buns are the most cost-effective and tasty meal /snack. very friendly and caring service here and the couple tables and stools make it a sweet place to hang out have a coffee, and read a magazine. highly recommended :)

This is definitely not a bakery you would pass by unless you live in the neighborhood. This bakery used to be a block away and reopened recently. A lot of other Chinese bakeries reside in Chinatown but none of them has this fresh smell as you walk by.
