This business just closed. We went on Saturday, has a For Rent sign in the front, without any indication of where it would be going next or, if it were just moving locations. Truly sad! My family has been going for 35 years! LOVED the food, it was so good, and at a great price. Truly going to miss them!

Definitely a typical Chinatown noodle house. They do a decent job, but it’s not enough to make me really excited. The broth is eh, the noodles are ok, the execution of the combinations of things is alright. I’d probably give it one star, except that they actually make the best Chinese broccoli in Oyster Sauce. It’s a funny thing because you would never think such a thing could be worth of additional star-age— this is one of the easiest dishes to make after all. However, they manage to do it in a way that deserves kudos.

I prefer Noodle Village but this is more your typical neighborhood noodle shop. The fishball noodle soup broth isn’t quite exactly what I’m hunting for though(but admittedly I am in pursuit of the holy grail of fishball noodle soup) but they do have generous portions, bean sprouts, and all the right garnishes.

Great cheap food and the soup is the best. Not very spicy but there are three different table chilis to choose from. Fun atmosphere.

My friends from San Fran recommended New Chao Chow restaurant to us. It’s simple good easy eating food. I always order the Combination with the soup on the side. Why? It’s plentiful with meaty goodness(you have to be a liver and kidney fan because they give you a lot)…On top of a huge bed of noodles. It comes out quick and we are left happy and satisfied.

Very good food and quite cheap! Everything is very tasty and fresh. I much prefer this place over Bo Ky. The only set back to this place is that it’s very small. There’s also one very, very small bathroom. So if you go during the lunch hour and need to use the bathroom, there may be a wait!

Nothing fancy here!!! I would have to try it again. I had the duck here. I love duck. It is okay. Not the worst but it was very fatty. Not a lot of meat at all. I happen to enjoy Bo Ky on Bayard Street a little bit better. I have to take my friend to Bo Ky so he can compare the duck from both places. And Chao Zhou on Main Street in Flushing, NY also has good country style duck. New Chao Chow was a bit disappointing but I had good company. Sometimes that is all that counts.

this place has nothing notable about it. I have no idea how this place has four stars. it’s cheap and it’s cheap. that’s it. i must say i haven’t tried the noodle soups, so that might be worth trying. but i can say, don’t bother going here for anything else.

very good food and cheap! The young chow fried rice was soo good! it was made with sliced pork, sausage, chicken, scallions and eggs. the soy roasted chicken was very good as well. But I was surprised we got a different kind of dipping sauce instead of the usual mashed ginger, scallion in oil. The sauce they gave us was a little sour, sweet and very soupy. Not as good as the usual sauce but the chicken itself was very tasty We also got the beef and broccoli. It was NOT your usual Chinese take out beef and broccoli. This was real goodness in this special brown sauce. The beef was also very tender. The Chinese watercress with bean curd sauce was very tasty as well. And so healthy with lots of fiber. The service was actually pretty decent for Chinatown. The waiters were very attemotive and quick. maybe because it wasn’t busy. Zero atmosphere, come here for the food, not the ambiance Would definitely be back…

While it is the name is chinese, it is one of the few restaurants in NYC that does really great Vietnamese noodle soup. While you aren’t going there for the décor or ambiance it makes up for the food. We usually order the noodle soup #1 which is just how it is made in Vietnam. We took my parents there who are the usual picky Asian parents on especially Vietnamese food and my mom not only loved it but was very impressed with it. She always want to come here when they visit. Of course, it is also budget friendly at $ 4.75 for the noodle soup. Come try it you be a believer.

Review Dedication: Alex«Jando», «Mr. 1,618», «THE Unilocal Samaritan», S! Jando’s suggestion on New Chow Chao Restaurant, rendered yet another excellent establishment to consume the long sought Bo Kho! Link to Jando’s Profile: It is by little coincidence that a venture to New Chow Chao Restaurant was conducted. For starters, the savory aromatics stemming from the establishment’s exhaust system can be detected all the way on the corner of Mott & Canal. Having been curiously escorted to this establishment by scented detection alone, the appetite soon came calling and a quick lunch at this restaurant was had. Entry into New Chow Chao will reveal the typical setup of Noodle Shops in Chinatown. The establishment itself is worn, due to the years of service to the visiting patron base. The décor is simplistic and similar to almost all noodle shops in Chinatown. The traditional off color Formica tables and sturdy wooden chairs set the foundation of the dining establishment. Not much more can be said other than this being a place of comfort eating. Nevertheless… Décor isn’t important! What IS important is the food. No menu was required despite being presented one. The meal was simple and had already been pre-determined prior to arrival… Bo Kho w/Fish Balls & Phở: Similar to presentation of Bo Ky, a massive bowl of Red Broth Noodle Soup with massive chunks of Beef Stew /Tendons and a few Fish Balls! The phở set at the foundation of the application was nearly undetectable due to the cloudy nature of the Red Broth. Upon consumption of the Beef Stew, it was delightful to observe that the broth base contained a proper balance of Star Anise and Ginger. The seasoning of the broth was properly, without an overburdened amount of Salt. The heavy tanginess(in many ways eerily similar to ketchup) was an embodying reminder of what attracts one to this application. To further aid in the excessive flavoring of the broth, a heaping quantity of aromatics such as Red Carrots and Onions were used to further amplify the flavors of the brought. Contrary to Bo Ky’s rendition, the rampant brashness and savory favors of this application protruded in this application. The broth itself was balanced and captivated the flavor that’s sought in this rendition. Consumption of the Beef Stew depicted a heighten level of the Broth’s embodiment. With each bite of the Stew, a mild rendering of the broth, soaked in by the meat, helped to elevate the soft delicate texture. Each bite possessed the heavy broth base for which the application was slow cooked, leaving absolutely no distortion in flavor. The Fish Balls in the application could’ve been without, as they were a bit fishy. Be that as it may, the welcoming flavor contrast provided the much needed elemental discrepancy to truly appreciate the Bo Kho. The phở cooked perfectly! The noodles were soft to the point in which it was flexible, but still possessed a slight tenderness when consumed. One impressive note on the Phở was how clean it tasted during consumption. Another high remark should be bestowed as no bloating feeling was rendered during /after consumption. All components of the application worked in conjunction to create a well-rounded dish, with each ingredient complemented another in an extensive and supporting manner. $ 8.00 and the second best rendition of Bo Kho has been consumed! Needless to say, I need to treat Mr. Jando himself to a meal at this establishment. Without his blessed advice, I would’ve been still searching for the elusive Bo Kho!

This place sucks, so small, so tight, bathroom SUCKS. I know many of you people go here thinking it’s a restaurant and shit, u order veggy dish, 2 meat dish, and possibly a soup. Na na na na naaaaa! NA!!! This place is strickly for Hu Tieu, and you gotta get it the dry version, meaning that the soup is separate. I order it in vietnamese, so it’s called Hu Tieu Kho. Its white noodles with, pork, and buncha good shit, man i don’t even know what’s in it, but i’ve been eating it for 10 years. Come here only to eat that. HUTIEUKHO. Add sugar to your noodles, lots and lots of sugar… Scoop some green chili into the sauce try. and add some soy sauce. Spicy and sweet… Thats the right way how to eat chao chow noodles! You come here to eat Hu Tieu mannn, you don’t come here to eat cuisine shits! You in the wrong place mannnn! It’s dumb fricken hard to get parking(free parking)…so crazy how i trouble myself to eat that damn bowl of noodles. I always eat 2 bowls to curb my feening… for about a month.

This place is hit or miss. Probably depends on which chef is working. Wontons were wrapped in a way where you eat into a ball of dough. The chao chow duck was savory especially when dipped with the vinegar and chili sauce, however, it was also very fatty. If you don’t mind surgically removing the fat from every piece, then you’re fine here. As with any hole in the wall restaurant in c-town, stick with the basics and you’ll be ok.(e.g. Beef Ball noodle soup… that was ok)

Zero atmosphere. Located on one of the less savory blocks in Chinatown(but definitely not the smelliest; that honor goes to Broome between Allen and Eldridge). The servers are not the most approachable bunch. But New Chao Chow serves quite simply the best wonton soup I’ve had in the city, and maybe the country. Be sure to ask for«no noodle» — they double the number of delicious dumplings. I also love the wide variety of hot things on the table: slender, spicy peppers; chili oil; black pepper; two types of hot sauce, etc. Use with caution, these condiments are for real. Regardless of season, they serve you a pot of hot black tea. Other menu items besides the noodle soups are on par with the better Chinese restaurants in the neigborhood, but the wonton soup is the real star.

What happened? The food here isn’t the same as it used to be. Their noodle soups and toppings weren’t edible at all. The meat was chewy and dry, noodles were soggy and overcooked and the chiu chow flavor gone? Oh man, I used to eat here with my parents all the time when I was little. I was a lil disappointed with their food this time around. I haven’t tried Bo Ky during my trip back to NYC, but next time I’m going there instead. =(

Cheap, Hole in the wall Chinese restaurant with AWESOME noodle soups~! My boyfriend and I walked around China Town for a pretty long time to find this place. It was definitely worth the search. I ordered a beef noodle soup and my bf ordered the wonton noodle soup . The beef tendons in my noodle soup literally melted in my mouth. The egg noodle had a perfect texture and the soup was very flavorful. A little squeeze of lemon adds a little tangy fresh flavor to the noodle soup. SOOOO good! AND its so cheap. It’s about 5.50 a noodle soup and it filled me up for the rest of the night. I would like to come back here again when I go to NYC and try new things :)

I found out about this place through Unilocal.Curious, I checked it out but had my mind to try out another establishment. With the nagging thought in my head, i had to head there. I ordered the Mee Pok Ta and initially thought I’d have it with duck because I was salivating for duck when I passed by this place the first time … but later on settled on the regular seafood accompaniment. At both Bo Ky and here, I witnessed the patrons mix their own sauces to go with their noodles. I followed suit. I had the chili mixed with the seemingly hoisin like sauce and it went superb with my noodles. In fact, I loved the chili so much that I had scoop after scoop of it. I also ordered the fried shrimp paste… typical Teochew dish. I must say that it’s much better than the one they serve at Bo Ky. I actually like the one here and the freshness of the shrimp paste is easily seen. However, I must say that I probably liked Bo Ky’s chili sauce better. Here at NCC, they offer a plum like sweet sauce which was ok but not super. I had the intention of ordering the duck to go but decided against it. Too much Chinese food for one weekend. Perhaps next time…

It’s a filthy dump, but hey, they make the most delicious chiu chow style noodles with pork, shrimp, and fish-cake in soup. The noodles are served dry, with soup on the side. I’m not sure what it was called, but you’ll recognize it because they’re thin egg noodles with ground pork(that looks like scrambled egg) on top. Get soy-sauce roast chicken too. Get the roast duck too. Sometimes they’d have«silver needle» noodles which, until I saw them here, I hadn’t had since I was a kid. YAHOOOO! Oh, yeah, and I think all of this came out to less than $ 10. I don’t know how they make money. And frankly, I don’t really care!
