Absolutely the best Cajun/Creole food north of the Big Easy. Everything – muffalettas, po’ boys, gumbos – is spot on. And chef Karl Wilder, direct from New Orleans(you can’t fake that accent, cher!) is the real thing.

I’m giving them one more star, after having the muffaletta, a big portion of meats and olive tapenade on some thick, fresh bread. Tastes good with any of the 18 beers on tap.

I was honestly really looking forward to this restaurant. I would be willing to try the food again as I loved the idea of New Orleans fare in the East Village. Unfortunately, either the waitress steered me in the completely wrong direction and there’s actually lots of great food, or those dishes were representative of the restaurant’s low-quality food. We had the brisket po boy and the Boo fries(fries, brisket gravy, cheese, and onions), which were both disappointing. That was possibly the least tender piece of brisket I have ever tried in my life. I had to pull the sandwich hard from my teeth to rip the meat. The Boo fries dish was nothing more than a glob of haphazardly-concocted lard on fries.

Super friendly service and authentic New Orleans food! Nice atmosphere — works well for groups. I will be coming back :) I took one star away because the quality of the muffaletta sandwich does not match the picture posted by prior reviewer and the quality I had in New Orleans. They were not busy at the restaurant therefore the quality should’ve been the same.

Great happy hour with 4 $ beers, and good po’ boy sandwiches. I tried the catfish and the pork one. I love catfish, but the pork po’ boy was better. Oh and the waitress was super nice. She even ran out to catch us outside after one of us forgot his credit card on the table and left.

Absolutely tremendous food! Before eating here, I was not at all familiar with New Orleans food. Nawlinz wowed me! My friends and i had the grilled quail, red beans and rice, and the poutine with sausage gravy. I was shocked at how subtle the flavors were. I was expecting harsh and spicy food, but instead found refined cuisine — at a bar in NYC’s east village. Sold on this pop-up concept…

Run do not walk to Nawlinz! I have been to the big easy many times and I am happy happy that a short subway trip to the east village takes me back to the 9th ward. The food is amazing! !!
