Mud is a cozy coffee place in the east village area. It has lovely ambience, courteous staff and amazing barista. We went in for weekend brunch here. It is 18 dollars per person for an entrée, a mimosa or OJ or beer and a regular coffee. I had sunny side up eggs with avocado and goat cheese, mimosa with OJ and my hubbie ordered the chicken press. I loved my mimosa and sunny upside egg. The chicken press was average– bland and flavorless. We finished with a mocha and a capp. Coffees were pretty good– prob the best part of the brunch. Ambience is cozy, staff courteous, baristas do a great job, but food is average. Not worth 40 $ brunch at all. Have had better at much lower prices.

Cute little brunch place with nice ambiance. I ordered the plantain cake breakfast which was a plantain cake with a sunnyside up egg with ricotta, truffle oil, avocado, and arugula salad. It was delicious! It was pretty small but for $ 10 what can you really ask for. The taste was amazing(well, it had all my favorite things in it,) but the arugula salad had no dressing! This place is kinda small so I would not come here with a large group.

What can I say about MUD? Their coffee is awesome(especially the MUD Mocha). The service is also super friendly and quick. The only downside besides the whole cash only thing, is that it can be a bit chaotic by the counter if you’re trying to get a coffee to go and it’s crowded. Besides that though, MUD rarely disappoints.

This is a great breakfast serving place! I had a bowl with rice, beans, mushrooms and egg. This was super delicious! I had a mimosa, which was great too :-)(cocktails are always a good idea hehe) I liked that they have this brunch offer — you get any dish + coffee + mimosa/orange juice for 18.5 $. On weekends it is really crowded!

Food: 5 stars Service: 2.5 stars The Good: 1. The food was great. Per our restaurant tradition, my friend Melissa and I each ordered something separate and then dumped half of our meal on the other’s plate to create a hodgepodge of deliciousness. It’s a system, and it works. She got the pressed avocado sandwich and I had the huevos rancheros. We both agreed the huevos were the highlight of brunch. 2. The mimosa. Brunch is served with either a mimosa or a beer, a coffee, and your entrée for one base price — not a bad deal. I’m used to having mimosas in champagne flutes or wine glasses and was happy to see ours were served in a much larger mason jar. Excellent. 3. My friend Sarah bought some coffee beans to go after we finished eating. As we stood up front, she told us how she goes and grinds her beans at Trader Joes because it’s free. The guy behind the counter overheard her and offered to grind them specifically for her French press while she paid. Good job, guy. The Bad: 1. What is it with New Yorkers and jamming people into tiny tables built for small children? What is this, a table for ants? Again, there were three of us squashed into a small table for two. Keep in mind: not only were we expected to fit entrees onto the table, but there were also 3 mason jars, 3 glasses of water, and 3 large coffee mugs on the table as well. It was like a giant game of Tetris and we were losing. A set of two small tables opened up and we asked to move them together to have a bit more space. The waitress said yes and moved us. Moments later the host reappeared and told us we could only have one table and pulled the two apart again. Back to square 1. 2. Our first waitress switched in the middle of the shift without telling us, so a second server dropped off our coffees. Sarah has a milk allergy and had ordered an almond milk latte. I ordered a cappuccino with whole milk. They both appeared in identical mugs looking exactly the same. We asked the waitress which was which and she shrugged, and walked away. Nice. I was set with the challenge of determining whose drink was whose, which proved to be quite difficult considering the amount of foam on Sarah’s drink made it misleadingly appear to be a cappuccino, which could have led to disastrous results. Bullet, dodged. 3. A third waitress took over, apparently for the first. She dropped off our food and the check, and two minutes later appeared and asked us to cash out because her shift was ending. If I had done that at the restaurant I had worked at in college, I would have been fired. I understand your shift is ending but you can give us more than two minutes to actually taste our food before you start asking us for money. It was just not handled well and frankly, a little rude. TL;DR Food was great, service was very focused on turn-over and money, rather than the comfort and satisfaction of the customers. Not a great place for claustrophobics or worth risking for those with food allergies.

Mud has good coffee, but I think this place is starting to get a little in over its head. Mud used to offer a breakfast option around $ 10, which was affordable and a great deal. Now the only option is a $ 17.50 and you have to have 2 drinks. If I just want an entrée without any coffee or alcohol, I still have to pay for the $ 17.50 option, which turned me off. Other good things to note: the wait is incredibly long for brunch unless you come before 10 am, and it’s cash only.

I’ve been seriously wanting to go here for months, strictly because of the beautiful French toast every one keeps posting and getting and finally last week I did! It’s amazing. The service was great, the food was amazing and I’m so glad I made it out there. And I only realized a few days ago they also sell their coffee which I tried and I purchased on the spot to drink at home since I live in Brooklyn.

Deco: I always sit in the courtyard even in the winter cuz it’s so adorable. Food: came here for a few times for brunch. French toast’s a must try! They have a crispy layer of almond and it adds to the texture of the French toast. It’s heaven lol

i hate to do this, cuz i come here all the time and its always 5 stars, my favorite brunch in nyc. but this time the food was not great. the huevos rancheros had too much flavorless rice and beans and little substance. i shoved it all to the side and ate the eggs and avocado etc. bro got an omlette with chorizo and veggies — he enjoyed it immensely but i personally found it to be too greasy, aggressively meat portioned. coffee was excellent, as always, as was the hennepin. grapefruit juice was good, but not memorable.

I was looking for a brunch in the midst of Blizzard in NYC today. Once I walked into MUD, the place calmed me down and made me feel like home. The dim lights and the small space was warm and welcoming. The décor was very charming. The brunch special was worth it $ 18 for Coffee or Tea/Mimosa or Juice. The brunch platter was huge and good enough for a great time with your friend. In addition, the waitress was very accommodating; my requests for swap for another dish and they allowed it without additional charge. I really recommend this place and plus it is close to the train station at Astor Place! Go Go MUD!

The wait here is extremely long! Not only did it take us about an hour to get seated, it took almost as long to get our food! The host actually came up to us and asked us not to linger at the table as they had other customers waiting. We told him that we hadn’t even been served yet! We asked the waitress where our food was TWICE! I damn near died from starvation! Although my almond French toast was good, but BURNT. Not worth the wait.

Great food at MUD, delicious brewed coffee and well as espresso bar beverages. I’ve only ever been here for brunch, at less than $ 20 for a beer/mimosa, coffee and entrée — how can you beat that in the East Village?! Only problem is the seating area outback, albeit very cute, is very small so plan on waiting a bit for a table but it’s a great spot to grab brunch if you have the chance. Most of the food has a texmex/west coast vibe i.e. lots of greens and avacado but they also have your staples for brunch such as make your own omelet and french toast. You will not be disappointed.

i wanted to take my lady to breakfast and she is a fan of huevos rancheros, so i searched for the best ones in the city. This place was on the list, so i decided to go. She was beyond pleased with her huevos, with siracha on the side. I had the French breakfast sandwich, which is scrambled eggs and cheddar on a croissant. Of course i added the avocado and bacon. And they offer an «everyday brunch special» for $ 18.50 where you get a coffee and a draft beer, mimosa, or OJ. The décor was on point. I had the sandwich and an IPA. My lady had her everyday brunch with mimosa. They did forget to give her the coffee. That was the only downside. The service was friendly and the food prepared well. Definitely a spot i would return to. So should you. ENJOY!!!

Breakfast served all day? Where do I sign up? If you’re tired of waiting for a table at peak brunch hours, consider trying MUD for dinner. Same menu, less people, more instantaneous gratification. Also, I was pleasantly surprised with their beer and wine menu. The waiter recommended a very juicy Syrah that made me forget it was only hump day. Now let’s talk about how I had breakfast for dinner(but not really, unless you count the inclusion of eggs in a dish an automatic breakfast transformer). I split two sandwiches with a friend: scrambled egg & pickled jalapeño and pressed avocado(with a fried egg, of course). The former was decidedly the winner as the jalapenos provided a nice kick, and the toasted bun was far superior to the sourdough encasing of the runner up. FYI cash only, no wifi, and it’s physically impossible to have sex in the bathroom.

Note this place only takes cash. Came here with a group of 4 for brunch(at 9:30am… which I think by NYC standards isn’t really brunch and I’m not even sure why I was awake that early on the weekend, but I digress). I ordered the huevos rancheros based on other reviews and thought it was a pretty good meal. They have a brunch special for about $ 17. We were seated in the back around with a ton of natural light coming in. Didn’t check out the bathroom but two of the guys who were with us mentioned that it was tiny… not a big surprise for NYC, right?

I understand why this place/company gets a lot of buzz, but I wasn’t too into it. I went for brunch with four friends on a Sunday. The restaurant itself has an intimate, hole-in-the-wall feel which creates for a comfy experience. There was some type of leak above our table, though. The coffee was AMAZING. I would go back for the coffee itself. I’m actually hoping they sell bags of coffee, because I would definitely purchase it. We did the $ 17.95 brunch deal. I, personally, thought the mimosa was disappointing; it seemed like it came from canned juice concentrate, and it was such a tiny portion compared to what you get at other establishments. For my meal, I got the omelette +2 toppings(jalapenos and goat cheese — so good!) I got mixed greens for my side, and the greens weren’t tossed which created a lackluster presentation. Probably because it was busy. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here. But, like I said, I get the hype.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday with some girlfriends. They have a $ 17.50 brunch deal includes one entrée, coffee and a beer or mimosa. Coffee was amazinggggggg love it Huevo rancheros were pretty good but missing the cheese on top? Omelette was good but I asked for queso fresco and they forgot it ?? And I paid extra for this… Avocado sandwich was good Bacon was super good and crispy No bloody Mary’s which was disappointing CASH only kind of inconvenient The bathroom was small which I can deal with, but SOGROSS. Toilet paper everywhere, couldn’t find paper towels it was a mess. I personally wouldn’t rush back here but the food is good for a decent price.

3 stars for food, but adding another star because they have an awesome everyday brunch deal. Brunch is usually a weekend thing, so its nice that they serve brunch everyday and with an awesome deal of an entrée + coffee + mimosa/OJ/beer for ~$ 18. I came on a Tuesday around 1:30pm and there was no wait at all. We sat in the very back with the natural lighting, but it eventually got really cold. I ordered a chorizo omelet with avocado, caramelized onions and tomatoes. The omelet itself was okay, nothing special. The potatoes were a bit on the saltier side like another Unilocaler said. My other friends seemed to enjoy their food but it was also nothing super special. The mimosa was strong, and I like that! Also came in a cute mason jar as well. Coffee was definitely flavorful and well brewed. I mean, for a coffee shop it should be, right? Some places don’t brew their coffee well, and I’m glad I had a good one here. Environment was very shabby, but not in a bad way. The place has its own charm to it. The food menu wasn’t out of this world special or amazing, but it was still pretty solid.

Had the huevos rancheros here in the early morning, it came with OJ and coffee. Everything tasted great, no complaints. Appreciated having the hot sauce on the side, I like being able to mix it in myself. Keep in mind that they’re cash only.

They open early so if you want a hearty breakfast without waiting in line, this is the place to go. The place is also a coffee shop so come in if you just want a coffee. The back room has plenty of sunlight for people who want to read a book or use their laptops. Oh, they don’t have a board for this at the door but they only accept CASH.

I came here for brunch on a weekday. I thought the food was ok, but there isn’t anything memorable or special about it. My friend and I ordered the Love Salad and Breakfast Quesadilla. The salad comes in a big bowl and the taste of goat cheese is very strong, so I would highly recommend asking if you could substitute it or taking it out if you don’t like goat cheese. The portions are decently sized and will fill you up. They have a special where you can choose any entrée listed on the menu with coffee and orange juice/mimosa/tap beer. We got the mimosa and it was pretty good. The coffee comes in a huge mug. They don’t add sugar in it, so you have to add the server for sugar. The restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks. I recommend sitting in the back of the restaurant. It feels more spacious and brighter since the windows on the ceiling provides natural lighting.

You know you’re in New York when, in order to shut the door to the bathroom, you have to squeeze sideways in the two inches between the toilet and the sink, pivot back around, turn to flush, and repeat the whole process to eject yourself. I must have been a spectacle trying to maneuver in and out in my puffy winter jacket(yes, late October is already winter for me). Aside from the bathroom situation and the cash-only policy, this is a spot that I would love to come back to if I was in the neighborhood and looking for a place to kill a few hours with a good book or a good friend. MUD has all the essentials of a sold coffeehouse: a strong chai latte, pastries, and a rotation of Sarah McLachlan tracks. I tried the pressed avocado sandwich. I could have done without the massive handful of arugula stuffed into the sandwich and more avocado, but the sourdough bread was nicely toasted. The waitress was friendly enough but she didn’t notice that I was missing a fork or check to see how the food was. NEXTTME: the almond sourdough french toast, tomato soup, maple gelato.

CASHONLY. Don’t worry — Chase is around the corner. What came first — MUD Truck or MUDspot?(It’s MUD Truck) After over an hour wait for a party of 9 — yes, 9 — I’d suggest you come here with less than that, for sure. If your party isn’t so large, the wait really isn’t too terrible. Just look across the street at Veselka and you’ll feel a little better. We were seated in a nice and cozy corner in the back patio, which is both covered and heated — that was a nice surprise! Space is decent — was expecting a much smaller place. Service was pleasant and patient with our group of 9. And the sheer amount of plates and cups on our table was crazy. For brunch, its a set price of $ 17.50 which includes coffee and a choice of OJ, mimosa, or beer. Some people didn’t drink coffee and were allowed to have OJ instead. Our group found this price to be extremely fair for a very popular brunch spot. I had the MUD coffee with skim milk, which to my surprise, was steamed! The coffee seemed to be bottomless as well, which is great for an addict like me. The fresh squeezed orange juice was so, so, so, good. For my main dish, I got the almond sourdough french toast with syup and fresh fruit. It was different than I expected, as it was literally two flat sourdough bread pieces with a lot(and I mean a lot) of almond crusted over it. It wasn’t as satisfying as say a traditional french toast. I also tried the SO’s special omelette with gouda, bacon, scallions, and tomatoes, and that was delicious! The home fries were way too salty. Nice place for a cozy brunch at a very decent price, but beware of cash only and a very possible wait.

NOMS! Maybe I was just super hungover and needed sustenance but everything was SO yummy! For brunch had the sourdough French toast crusted in almonds. Delicious! I didn’t think it was super sweet at all! Loved the fresh fruit on top! The avocado sandwich was omg so delicious! Looked so simple but the flavors were amazing! Perfectly toasted bread, the cheese, arugula, every bite was just so freaking amazing! Home fries were standard, got a side of sausage and that was cooked perfectly too! Thoroughly enjoyed my meal! Brunch deal also comes with choice of coffee and either beer, mimosa(orange or grapefruit), or OJ. Loved it!
