Most of us who take the subway for a long duration of time could get to and from work with their eyes closed; and I think many people actually do that. It is a daily routine and their very few excitements underground. Over the years of taking the subway I have stopped and stared for at the Arts work I come across as I am traveling through the subway system. For the pass two years I traveled with a camera to record some of the arts work projects I am liked the most. Sometimes I change my route just to see some art pieces again or to find a new pieces. It is a little adventurous, fun, and enjoyable. Of all the Transit Art I have seen my FAB Five are– 1. E-train 14 St. Station Manhattan — Thomas Otterness scuptures 2. F-train Essex st. Station Manhattan– Bklyn bound Trout Fish Wall Tiles (The cherry trees on the Queens bound side are nice too) 3. A/E-train 42 st station Manhattan– Chess Board tiles at the #7 corridor. 4. R-train Whitehall station, Manhattan — Seagulls, fence Designs, and Art tiles 5. R-train 36 St. 4 Ave Brooklyn — tiles honoring engineers, workers and laborers of the subway system. Worth mentioning– 6. #7-train Queens stations with stained glass panels; colorful translucent panels on several of the stations. The most dramatic ones are the south facing panels because they catch the morning and late afternoon sun. 7. C-train station at Museum of Natural History– wall tile creators(oh my!); they kind of set you mood before visiting the museum. So share with us your favor Subway Arts for Transit project.
