Mike’s Liquor

Wow – this place is a throwback to a Brooklyn I’m not sad to see go. The entire store is behind bulletproof glass. All you have access to is the shopkeeper, who hands you your bottle around a deep opening. I didn’t expect them to have what I was looking for – Pimm’s, of all things – but they did! And the woman there got it for me in about 10 seconds, which is far faster than if I’d had to wander around a store. So, maybe not so bad after all.

Yes, this is the infamous bulletproof liquor store. I noticed it wasn’t on Unilocal,but this may have also been due to the fact that this place doesn’t have a real name. The yellow awning says «Liquor and Wine». The light up sign on top says «Lotto Liquor», and the credit card receipt I have says «Mike’s Liquor Inc». So I decided to go with that last one, as it seems the most official.
For the longest time I always brushed this place off as a joke, but they really do have a decent selection if wines and alcohol. You wouldn’t get the fancy wines like you could get up the block at Il Vino Torchio, but you can definitely get a bottle of Yellowtail or some other inexpensive (but not bad tasting) wine. The Root 1 Cabernet always works in a pinch.
