If you don’t have an easy way to get exact measurements or need an odd shaped piece cut, this is not the place to go. They refuse to measure anything. I brought in several odd pieces I needed replicated in size based on an email I sent them and they weren’t able to help me out. Counter person seemed nice, but hauling things across town to end up with nothing is highly disappointing. If I had an easy way to get the exact sizes I could have gone to a big box store to have them do it and saved money.

I ordered two pieces of plywood with custom dimensions and drilled holes. Mike was incredibly responsive and actually pointed out a few issues I would have had with my project if I had proceeded with the information I originally gave him. I will definitely use Midtown Lumber for any of my future wood needs!

I came here a few days ago to purchase pinewood and have it cut into several pieces with a 45 degree angle trim on the sides of them. The guys here were super knowledgeable and friendly. They were able to help me achieve what i needed for my project and got my order done quickly. I’ll be back for materials on my next project for sure.

Surprised and delighted. I was expecting to be either ripped off or turned away because I just needed a one small piece of wood cut. Instead, I got a much lower price than I was expecting. While someone cut the wood in the back, I chatted with the guys at the counter who both had valuable experience and advice for my(tiny) project. I was in and out in 20 minutes and the pricing was more than fair. Convenient location. I will be back!

Where Ikea’s Customer Service failed me, Midtown Lumber offered CUSTOMEREXCELLENCE! I needed to duplicate a corner shelf and found Midtown Lumber through a Google search. From the«how you doin’» when I walked in to the shelves being ready earlier than expected, Midtown Lumber’s service, price and quality of workmanship is awesome. Ikea does not sell additional shelves for their own merchandise, Home Depot would not cut the wood for me. Just another example of why we need to support LOCAL businesses who still offer great service to their customers. Thank you, Midtown Lumber!

Great customer service despite unideal business hours and high cost(this is Manhattan…). Helped with my person DIY project, helped me choose the right lumber and tools, cut the wood for me and provided it within a day. It was a pleasure doing business here.

I live near Metropolitan Lumber and Hardware. I’ve begrudgingly been going there to get my lumber but it always stresses me out. The lumber guys there are surly and trying to get wood cut often feels like a back alley experience: How much does it cost… Should you tip?(That was suggested to me once!)…Nothing is definitive. So, after reading the great reviews for Midtown Lumber, I decided to try them out. I’m glad I did. What a different experience. The sales people, Dave and Kate, were so helpful and worked with me to get my lumber cut to my specifications. Everything was upfront and easy to understand; the wood cost X amount and then each cut was a dollar. So simple. No haggling or hidden costs. It was worth traveling the extra 20 blocks. I will be getting all my wood and cutting jobs done there from now on.

I stopped in with a list of exactly what I needed. I handed it to the guy behind the counter was he rung it up. Prices were a bit high, around double what I would have paid at Home Depot. The reason I choose Midtown Lumber was because of the great reviews and I had heard Home Depot does a terrible job of cutting wood. Anyway I paid for my wood and came back in around half an hour to collect it. I specifically put Qty2 on the sheet I gave him but I was only given 1, the receipt only showed 1 as well and as it wasn’t a huge deal to me I settled with have just 1. The cuts looked good but when I got home I notice they had made some of my pieces too large. I asked for 2 pieces cut to 207⁄8 and 2 cut to 211⁄8 which the receipt reflect. When I got home and was doing the preassembly I noticed they cut the wood to 217⁄8 instead of 211⁄8. I ended up having to go grab a miter box and cut the wood myself anyway, exactly what I was trying to avoid. Now that I have the miter box I’ll just stick to Home Depot for wood in the future.

These guys are great! The bottom piece of fiberboard on my IKEA drawer broke(thanks IKEA!) and these guys helped me choose, measure, fit and cut the piece I needed. When you make the bad decision to buy IKEA furniture that breaks, make the great decision to go to Midtown Lumber to fix it!

Quality materials, exceptional craftsmanship, superb value and very fast turn around. I can’t recommend this place enough. Walked in yesterday morning with measurements for studio equipment racks I want to build. Purchasing them pre built is insanely expensive and I don’t have the space or tools to cut things up myself. Spoke to one of the guys and within 5 minutes he had a sketch and an extremely fair quote ready to go. Came back in this afternoon to collect my pieces and I’m beyond happy with the work. Do yourself a favour don’t waste time or money anywhere else.

Local, honest, efficient, well-priced, and friendly! I emailed specs for two shelves and asked for recommendations for thickness. Mike answered promptly with some recommendations, after which I made my choices and received a very fair quote. Two days later, I stopped by, placed my order/paid, grabbed some breakfast, ran another errand, and about 2 hours later I picked up my two MDF shelves, tied together for easy subway carrying, and away I went. Couldn’t have been easier or more pleasant! Thank you Midtown Lumber and Mike!!!

I have been going to Midtown Lumber for several years now and I have to say they are the best small lumber company that functions like a big lumber yard. They have everything, or will get it for you; and yet they are available to not only educate the customer but do it with a consistent smile. It reminds me of my trips to the lumber yard with my father as a child. Their work is excellent and they’d go out of their way to help you do it better, but not necessarily with more expense. As a professional designer, in Manhattan, I really can’t find a better place to get what I need, to make my jobs happen. Thanks again!

Love these guys! I needed bed slats for a new bed that came without the middle support bar… I got 42x4s 81inches long. I was in and out in 15 minutes. They are also very inexpensive and very knowledgeable about the best lumber for your needs.

I had bought some wood dowels at Home Depot and since they don’t cut there they gave me a list of Lumber Places in the city that do the cutting. Well I’m really glad that out of all of them I chose Midtown Lumber. I was helped immediately and after seeing all they have and can do there made me excited to come back. I’m never going to Home Depot for wood again. You get the full service here, lots to choose from, they cut and you don’t have to leave Manhattan. Can’t get any better than that.

First off, let’s discuss how Midtown Lumber is literally the only place in NYC that will cut a 45 degree angle!!! Seriously. I simply wanted to make a picture frame instead of paying $ 500. They had the wood and cut it for me within an hour!!! Less the $ 30! Second, the customer service WAS fantastic. Hardware/lumber stores are usually filled with guys who look at you and roll their eyes. These guys were friendly and helpful. Ask for Zac, he seemed happy to be at work and that’s rare especially for a lumber store. Third, it is right next to the A C E!!! It really doesn’t get any better. Now I need another project so I can go there again. Thx guys!

Midtown Lumber is the dive bar of cut-to-order wood shops. From the door-less slaughterhouse-style plastic hanging strip entrance to the brusque no-nonsense cashier service, this is no-frills in its most unadulterated form. That said, it was stunningly easy to get an email quote with a recommendation on type of wood(I needed to replace a piece of my bed that the movers lost in transit) and pricing. You have to physically show up to pay for your order, but it was cut and ready within a day. No fuss, no muss. Don’t expect to be blown away by the customer care, but if you need a simple job done in a timely manner at a reasonable price, Midtown Lumber doesn’t disappoint.

Pleasant, precise, and fast. I bought some wood boards and had them cut. I was in and out of there in minutes.
