Great burlesque show this Sat. 11:30 show, and the audience was really into it. The place was packed. Very reasonable theater ticket price. Good food, and service staff was polite.

The Metropolitan Room is extremely famous in the Cabaret world. Many singers have performed there and are returning entertainers. Over the years, I’ve seen quite a few people perform there and I finally decided to write about it. My main issue is not the fact that there is a $ 20 + 2 drinks minimum, the issue is the menu. Again, it’s Manhattan and it is a popular place, but that menu is just crap. The only edible thing is the tomatoes and mozzarella salad, but the price is ridiculous and don’t get me started on the guacamole and salsa plate. Let’s say, we don’t care it’s expensive, once you get the food on your table, the show begins and the place is dark and there is no way of knowing what you’re eating. One thing I was impressed with is service. The waiters know what they’re doing and are very efficient. When I see a show, I like to face the performer and even in a cabaret, I always arrange my chair and body to see the stage, but in there it’s a challenge. Most places you seat, you’ll have to turn your head and if you enjoy the show or not, you will be bitter at the end. For such a popular place, things could be improved, but over all it’s nice to attend performances of the more underground entertainers.

First time there. It was great. Light hearted and great musicians. Waiters were attentive too. I was there using a coupon and did not feel treated differently at all.

Most inept house management of any show space in NYC. Unless you arrive 45 minutes early, you’ll not sit with the people you came with, the shows start 20 min late because of how sloppily they run the seating. Even with a ticket purchased weeks in advance, you stand in line for 20 min while they scratch their heads thinking of how they’re going to seat everyone. Friends of mine who purchased discounted tickets through the web weeks ago found that they were not even on the list to see the show, and lost their money and couldn’t see the show. Also, the bartending and wait staff are not at all careful about how much noise they make during quiet moments in a singer’s act. While Liz Callaway was singing something so tender and heartfelt, you hear bartenders shaking iced drinks vigorously and wait staff slamming glasses into plastic trays. Nobody there has the tact to just be still for 5 seconds? Or place a glass quietly into a holder? I guess that takes fine motor skills that are above their ability. Obviously, if I want to see someone bad enough I’ll go here. But I never enjoy the seating, or the atmosphere. Only the talent.

Metropolitan Room is THENYCEXPERIENCE! This club is an upscale intimate jazz cabaret. I’ve seen jazz performances here along with comedy, burlesque and even country concerts! If you’re visiting from out of town this place is a must. They offer At least two shows every night. It is better than the lion king and way cheaper. If you’re a Chelsea resident the staff here should know your name. When you enter the club you are greeted by a gorgeous blonde who could be casted as a Disney princess. Above the show room curtain hangs a TV monitor that displays the live show. There is also one in the downstairs lounge. It appears there are multiple camera angles capturing the talent on stage. With all of these unique shots performances at Metropolitan Room look like a TV show! There is a two beverage minimum at this club, just like every other club in NYC. Although it is not a maximum. The drinks are a bit pricey, but what do you expect? It’s NYC! At least here you are provided with exceptional guest service and live entertainment! The club also offers munchies; olives, assortments of cheeses, and my favorite, the met balls. To get the full Metropolitan Room experience check out BXL after your show. It’s on the same street as the club, just a few doors down. It’s a classy bar with clean bathrooms. Their kitchen is open late, 11:30. Which is perfect for after your show at Metropolitan Room. Just whatever you do, don’t order a Heineken! If you’re looking to take your tinder binder/grinder finder to the next level, take advantage of the coupon they offer here on Unilocal and you’ll be sure to get your date’s panties dropping.

Incredible variety of offerings, outstanding performers, ambience, menu, location… a wonderful place to enjoy some of the best NYC has to offer! Make your visit to the Metropolitan room part of your NYC experience, you will be so glad you did!

The Diet Coke @ the Metropolitan Room is fabulously delicious and to top it off the staff are warm, inviting and really make me feel at home. I like to frequent the Metropolitan Room on Sundays for open mic comedy in the basement. You see it has always been my dream to move to NYC and tell jokes in a basement while standing in front of a fully operational cappuccino machine. Thank you Metropolitan Room, the dream has been achieved. Now I just have fulfill the recurring dream I have of singing Modern Love by David Bowie to a packed house of curvy karaōke loving babes. My birthday is January 8th.

I would only come back if someone I knew someone that was performing here. Tables are tight. We were squeezed into a tiny table in the corner, 5 people, two of which are 6’2″ and over. Wait staff was fine. I was speechless when I saw the price of a club soda, even after my two drink minimum(I drank one of my drinks the 2nd I gave to my group, I was driving) they charged me 5.95 for a effing glass of club soda. Really? I guess they do not care about drunk driving. Drink I ordered was good though.

I came here with a groupon for 2 drinks and 1 dessert, featuring this a cabaret. I had expected the showgirls and glitz, as depicted in the photo and what I have always known to be a cabaret lounge. This was the complete opposite! The jazz performer was very talented, but if I wanted to see a jazz musician only, then I would have chose somewhere else. I thought the drinks were just okay and the room was a bit crammed. I also was a bit turned off that they mentioned it was a groupon deal with every person I spoke to

Came to see a jazz performance and thought the atmosphere they went for was very pleasant. However the waitress kept on coming up to make sure we got our two drinks minimum which was quite annoying,

My girlfriend had been trying to convince me to go to the Metropolitan Room for a while and finally I relented. I’m not a huge fan of jazz, covers, and 2 drink minimums so I was fairly opposed to the idea. The venue is nice though a little bit on the cramped side. We came to see John Minnock and I must say I ended up having an awesome time. He was a great singer and also quite funny. He had a woman performing with him and they had some good witty banter. I started with a beer and then had a cocktail. I don’t specifically remember what it was but I enjoyed it. I feel a bit silly now that I was so opposed to going at first and to tell you the truth I wouldn’t mind going again.

Horrible from start to finish. The show is aimed at people 85+ years old and all the jokes were about Jews. Even when no-one laughed it didn’t matter. Service was horrible and unapologetic. Took 45minutes to get my first drink and then the waitress never came back. The waitress said we couldn’t order dessert yet then never came back to take order. Dessert was part of our groupon.

My first experience here was good, and the act was even better — I saw Lianne Marie Dobbs at the recommendation of a mutual friend. She has an amazing, sweet and sunny voice, and picked good songs. She threaded them together in a nice theme of nostalgia(«Everything Old Is New Again»), and I heard some favorites and new selections that I enjoyed a lot. The pianist also sang an original song about New York of his that I really like. I could have listened longer. It’s not often you get to see a singer who can curl up and nap on top of a grand piano during a song and make it entertaining and very sexy. Dobbs really does look like she walked out of a pinup poster from WWII, with great hair, a beautiful face, and lovely body. But this is about the Met Room… Money is extremely tight for me, but I honestly did not mind the $ 20 cover and 2 drink minimum. I sort of expected the drink prices to be a bit high(not sure why) and overall I’m really glad I came. Probably could not afford to do this often right now, and really wish I could. Maybe if the prices were lower they would jam more people in and make more money — but I just don’t know. Next time I might look for a Groupon or similar deal. My server was quick, unobtrusive, and sent my drinks over with no wait or hassle. Had a good table stage left, in the booth. I came early(30 mins.) and the hostess made a point to pick a comfortable spot for me… I’m a HSM, for those of you in the restaurant business, and I am certain I would not want a regular chair on the floor level. I only wish I had a center spot so I could watch the singer full on. I did not try the food, but as I understand a food selection will count towards your drink minimum. Next time I would consider an appetizer instead of a 2nd drink. I like the idea of putting your cover and drinks on a single check you can pay after. I am not familiar with cabaret in this city, so I don’t have a lot to compare it with. I did get a bit of a vibe that places like this capitalize on performers who are eager to stage a show and make a name for themselves. Yes, the décor is a bit outdated, but not in a garish or ugly way. It’s still a nice room to see an act in an intimate setting. The lighting was good, and so was the sound system. I do wish they had a better grand piano. The Yamaha had a dull, thick, unresponsive sound, and it was not the fault of the pianist. If they ever invest money in the place, they would do well to try a few Steinways and find one with a rich sound and more sensitive action. And of course it should be a model that a nice lady would feel comfortable climbing on top of. Just sayin’.

We came here with a gilt city deal for admission to one of the late night(post 11:30pm) shows, 4 beers or glasses of wine, and a dessert. The wine and beer choices were actually good, dessert was tasty, service was friendly and attentive(even after he knew we had pre-purchased), and the show provided the sort of random and entertaining night that I love about NYC. I would definitely come back, but probably not at full price. On the night we went, the entertainment was provided by the Mystic Circus Sideshow, which consisted of three performers: a male«extreme» contortionist, a glass walker/fire breather/lays on a bed of nails guy; and a female contortionist. All three performed some very impressive, and equally disturbing, feats. Some of the more impressive ones included one guy sword swallowing, another jumping on broken glass with a woman on his back and laying on a bed of nails with two women standing on top of him, and a woman who laid her face on a skateboard and then flipped the rest of the body over top so her feet were in front of her and sort of crab walked. Two tips: 1.) This show is definitely for an «adult» audience. The main performer does a strip tease that apparently occasionally entails«the full monty;» but he did stop at a strategically placed sock for our show. Also, expect to get pulled onto stage. Objections were futile. 2) I thought the website said the doors opened at 10:15, so we got there shortly before 11 for the 11:30pm show, but we were one of the first there and they didn’t start seating til 11:15, so no need to get there super early!

Some people read Playboy for the articles, visit sporting arenas for the architecture and go to Jazz clubs for the food. Price: $ 20 + 2 drink minimum Highlight: Cozyness of the Booths I go to Jazz clubs for the food and in doing so, I am now finding that my interest in the actual music is growing. Your experience is heightened when you are looking forward to a specific performer and I got to see the fabulous Janinah Burnett’s jazz/opera show. The room is cozy and I would definitely say Booth 1 or 2 are the best seats and views in the house. Once the booths fill, four legged chairs are the option. Booth please! The space is intimate and while the performer is on a slightly raised platform with a ¾ piece backing band, the performer can easily interact with the audience. Wait service is swift and they tend to move like ninjas in here.

You have to know what you’re getting into when you visit a cabaret venue. There’s almost always going to be a minimum, and the prices are almost always going to be ridiculous, but if you like the performer, you figure the minimum into the price of your ticket and suck it up. The Metropolitan Room is no exception. There’s a 2-drink minimum rather than a minimum dollar amount spent, so don’t bother with food. Bottom line: If you like the performer, and you really want to see them, suck it up and go.

Went there recently for Alice Ripley. She has a great voice but she does not need a mic in this small little venue which was jam packed. So we got there with 5 minutes to spare for a 9:30pm performance. The host sat us in the second level of stage left, which I though were better seats than the people on the bottom. It’s great to be up close and personal, but realistically the space is so small it doesn’t really matter. In fact being right in front of the performer might actually hurt your neck. With no time to spare, the waitress came over handed us menus and informed us a few times to make sure we UNDERSTOOD that there was a two drink minimum. $ 9 for a bottled beer, that is just too much! It wasn’t even on TAP — they were all bottled! To quote another reviewer, to pay cover and to jack up the prices on the two drink minimum for a mediocre selection is just unacceptable. Perhaps that’s the reason why many people only order two drinks, and the cheapest drinks on the menu. Plus the venue was deliberately uncooled — the Air Conditioner was NOT on. I don’t even know if they had one. It happened to have rained a few hours prior so it was a nice cool evening, but it was 100 degrees inside with all the lights! I think they deliberately keep it hot in there to get you to order more drinks to cool down. Shady business practice! Even the performer was dying from the heat and had to unbutton her blazer from time to time to cool off! Sorry Metropolitan Room, I won’t be back!
