There is a sign on the door stating that as of Dec 20th the place is closed for business, and directing you to their sister establishment, The Killarney Rose, across the street.

Friendly staff, good food, and relaxing atmosphere early in the week. Thursdays and Fridays can be a bit packed.

Legit Irish staff in this irish pub! Food was decent for lunch time in the financial district. co worker and i both enjoyed our dishes. want to go back and try more of the menu to really test it out. Looked like a good place to have a beer after work as well

Basically you typical Irish Pub. Unfortunately nothing really stands out and sets this place apart. Firecracker shrimp and mac-n-tuffle cheese were decent, but the blue cheese burger was not. Weak beer selection… I mean what Irish Pub doesn’t have Smithwicks?!?

Despite the mixed ratings for this restaurant, I went to do my own research and very pleased I did. I give Mercantile Grill 5 stars!!! My colleagues and I went for our Christmas Lunch in December 2011, and I had researched the restaurant prior to going for the group to making a choice between here and another restaurant. The Mercantile Grill was nearby our office, the staff were pleasant, and Pauline the hostess said they could accommodate us on 2 days notice. It was also very festive looking for the holidays which I liked. The area downstairs has a bar energy, however, the upstairs level was so nice with booths to sit in, and there is a private room perfect for our group of 7. When we arrived for lunch and taken upstairs, my Manager was not even aware there was a private room. The lunch was very well prepared and delicious, it took a little longer than expected because the staff was short handed due to the holiday week. However, my salmon was excellent and all enjoyed their meal, it was American Fare style so there was something on the menu for everyone. The pumpkin pie was also delicious. The cost was also reasonable. I would definitely return to Mercantile Grill for lunch or dinner with friends or colleagues, and my main reason I chose them also was they have an «A» rating! Clean and good food. Happy New Year. — LB

Went with a business associate«after work». It was amazingly quiet considering the busy location on Pearl street. We were early, just prior to 6pm so took over a nice corner table for conversation, snacks and people-watching. All the pub carbonated beverages plus a very full bar. We did not eat dinner, but could have been tempted as the menu offered a number of specials along with steaks, sandwiches and traditional American fare. Restrooms were clean and so was the rest of the place. The bartender was friendly and responsive. This is the kind of place where the bartender does it all.

I was there during St. Patrick day. It’s crowd with people and the service wasn’t that great. There are three bartenders around and I only saw two always working back/forward. Not sure where the third one is and always hide from us. Anyway, the prices is OK and there few girls around, but just too many office guy there. Not a bad place for few drink and simple drink.

There are no happy hour specials. Seriously. This is still America, right? normally, in these kind of situations, I up and hightail to the next closest location offering $ 3 Coors. But, there was a party going on at the bar, so I decided to ignore my gut reaction and stick it out. Bad choice. First, the party at the bar was some kind of office farewell party. It ended about 10 minutes later, leaving the entire place empty except for some aging caricatures of 80s Wall Streeters. The Mercantile burger with blue cheese made me realize that not all blue cheese burgers are created equal(Spotted Pig FTW!). Way overcooked(why do some places even bother asking you how you want it done if everything comes out well-done anyway?) And the beer tasted stale. Final straw. Next time, I’ll hit that other Irish pub cross the street.

I believe Mercantile Grill is a landmark establishment down in FiDi, but their food was anything but landmark quality. I ordered a scallop dinner entre. There were lots of scallops, but they weren’t delicious. It was a case of quantity over quality. I regretted not ordering their Macaroni & Truffle Cheese. So, my poor rating reflects the poor entre selection on my part. I don’t see myself returning, but if I do, Mac & Truffle Cheese, here I come!

When I worked on the Street we used to go here when sick of P&P. It’s a nice Irish pub, a lot more authentic(read: less flashy) than P&P, though I think that’s supposed to be British or something. The Merc has an extensive menu, the food in my opinion is good despite what a couple people have said(keep in mind what you’re paying — the Mercantile does not claim to be a Michelin-rated five-star restaurant, if they even advertise). I got the burger generally and one of my colleagues always got the tilapia, which he liked enough to get it every time; I don’t dig fish generally. This place is kind of hidden, doesn’t have the normal i-banker crowd, and basically is a more relaxing kind of backstreet place for a beer and a burger. Not cramped, not loud, never crowded; I don’t know who these other reviewers are.

FiDi is a veritable black hole of lunch options, despite the huge volume of sales that most businesses do. Mediocre lunch spots like Haru, Chipotle and Mercantile exist to feed overpaid and undernourished bankers. Faux Irish food and an Applebees inspired menu, Mercantile’s food is barely a step above your typical corporate café. My soggy, though pleasingly spicy blackened chicken wrap, accompanied by a huge pile of fries(hot and soggy… mmmm), was underwhelming to say the least. My dining partners and I mindlessly munched through the meal, which is apparently only there to provide sustenance, and not a pleasurable dining experience. A star for basic nutrition in a culinary starved part of Manhattan, and that’s about it.

OK I will admit, this place exceeded my expectations. But let me say that my expectations were based upon Ki G’s review of 1 star, and inevitable indigestion. Other than that, not too impressed. Cramped, crowded, noisy, and forgettably mediocre, Mercantile seems to specialize in ‘Blah British Food’. I saw several variations of shepherd’s pie, some sort of liver sandwich, and fish and chips. I stuck to a salad, which I think was a safe choice. Most of my coworkers chose the The Businessman Burger. Slow service, and food you could get at any roadside diner. Not going back.

I’ve been coming to the Merc with my buddies from work for years. We love it. John, the owner, is such a great guy and always makes time to have a beer with us. The food is pretty good and the prices are great, especially for this neck of the woods. Highly recommended.

Every time I come to this place, I inevitably get indigestion. The only reason I keep coming to this place is because my hapless co-workers sometimes don’t know what else to do for lunch. The food is meh, the beer is generic and the waitresses are so surly that one of the vendors who decided to take above hapless co-workers(myself included of course) to lunch nicknamed her«Sunshine.» Not original, I know, but it gets the point across about the service. Dude, the potato famine was ages ago. You’re in the USA now where the fat roam free. That itself should inspire a smirk at least.

its a great bar to go to if you dont wanna deal with the crowds during happy hour… especially on a friday! its dim yet average woodsy feel… the jukebox isnt too loud either so you can carry a decent conversation… the food is good, but nothing fancy… the beers selection is very limited, but they also serve liquor… which is a plus if youre not a beer drinker… the service was excellent! the waitress was very attentive and sincere! i just wanted to give her a big hug!(and yes, i was sober…)

Nice and cozy, you can hang out and have some beers down at the bar and go upstairs for food. It’s usually crowded during lunch but the best time would be before the end of you shift.
