Nice little place for grabbing sandwiches or to just meet up with some friends. I went with my brother for dinner and had a veal with gravy sandwich that came with French fries. The food was great, delivered quickly and the waiters were very friendly. The structure of the restaurant is a bit interesting, because it is divided up into two separate places: 1) Israeli food and take out and 2) The back was the restaurant. The structure didn’t matter though because I came for one thing: get a good meal which was what I got.

We ordered two half sandwiches and soup along with a full sandwich, knish and soup. The delivery arrived within about a half hour and was exactly how we ordered. All the food including the bread was fresh. The soup was piping hot and they provided plenty of plastic silverware for everyone. Well done!

In a previous life when I did not count calories and used to be a pickle and pastrami connoisseur I used to come here all the time. This is the perfect way to treat yourself for your matza ball soup addiction. Even though the place is packed all the time no one waits that long for a table.

Always delicious, always good service. I take out of towners there and everyone enjoys it.

I order lunch from they at least once a week. They are so fast. Usually have the food on my desk in 25min. This is during the lunch rush. Food is consistent and always great. What more can you ask for. Roast beef sandwich is a must here.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Very rude on the phone and they always get our orders wrong. We order from here 1 – 2 times per week and our orders are always upwards of $ 50. I received an order this week which had an item in there I did not order and one of the items I did order was missing. I called them to report this and ask if they could bring the correct item to me. They told me they wouldn’t, that it was my fault and if I wanted the correct item they will be charging me for it. This place is disgusting and I will never order from here again!

My son was in NYU medical center. We wanted deli sandwiches. Went to Unilocal, searched 2nd ave deli and mendy’s. Looked at the prices, Mandy’s is 1⁄3 less. Problem is food is 1⁄10 less. Corned beef – not edible. Pastrami — worse. Hot dog — not cooked. Knish — ugh. Only good part: dr Browns cream soda. Ate almost none of the food, went in the garbage. This is not authentic NYC deli, it should be in Cleveland, how they survive beats me. My son is out of the hospital, but next time I’ll be ordering from the 2nd ave deli — you get what you pay for. If you have mendys in your contacts — delete it! Place sucks

I am eating a $ 14.10 salad from Mendy’s. They don’t have balsamic vinaigrette(what?) as a dressing choice — I wish I knew this before he made the whole thing. I had an add-on of avocado. but $ 11 normal price for a salad is ridiculous. I am SO upset… this salad is so so gross and I can’t believe I was just ripped off so horribly.

First visit and I liked the bison burger with fries. Was disappointed at the disappearing servers that don’t like refilling beverages.

Probably the worst service I have ever received anywhere. We came early, 5;45, the restaurant had only one other patron. We came with a party of seven, asked for water three times and never got it. Food was late and orders forgotten while my grandchildren became cranky. We had to wave frantically to get the waiter’s attention in a near-empty restaurant. The pastrami was edible but the amount of pastrami was tiny. The tip was added automatically and I had to leave early and my wife did not protest, although all of us were appalled at the service. I would have raised hell. Although I live in the neighborhood, this is a restaurant that I would go to if I was looking for irritation. Truly an irritating and expensive experience. AVOID

How can you offer a Cobb salad? It was just a garden salad with avocado! I respect keeping Kosher but you can’t call it a Cobb salad when there is no bleu cheese, bacon, or boiled egg. I was getting take out for a meeting at work and picked the first thing on the menu that looked appealing to me. I thought, «it’s hard to screw up a Cobb.» But it’s not that hard, just don’t use the known ingredients.

Fantastic lean pastrami. Super friendly staff and enjoyable experience. Like so many other eateries in NYC always better to order and pick up. DELIVERYISHITORMISS. Glatt Kosher with a great variety of items on the menu.

I guess Kosher means a few slices of turkey between two toasted pieces of Wonder Bread for $ 15 and rude service.

Please don’t bother! I’ve had better hot dogs and knishes off a street cart and had better service for a lot less money. Food was over cooked yet cold. Counter service and cashier could not have cared less. Place is very dirty. One would expect more from an iconic kosher deli in Midtown near Yeshiva. Dear tourists please don’t judge our amazing NYC deli’s by this one terrible one.

Their chopped liver and corned beef are good but soup is so-so. Last time I went there I bought a large matzo ball soup which turned out inedible because it tasted spoiled. Not my favorite place for this kind of food.

Walked in spontaneously just to get a deli sandwich to go, turkey/lettuce/tomato sandwich on rye. As I was next in line to pay, say the cashier rudely tell two young women they were not allowed to enter the dining room, despite a large sign indicating dining room was open and people inside. There was some confusion, finally the two women sat in the front area(I couldn’t hear the reason they were not allowed in). Cashier turned her attention to me, my sandwich was $ 13.95, which I found excessive(really?$ 13.95? — it was a grocery type bread, nothing special) Between the inflated price and rude demeanor of the staff, punctuated by the sandwich maker frustratedly screaming NOCHEESE! NODAIRY! to those who didn’t realize they were in a kosher deli, I looked straight at the cashier and said«I don’t think so.» She looked at me, gave me the price again, and I told her I didn’t want the sandwich or to be there any longer. That was it, I left. I guess if you have dietary restrictions it would make this place attractive. Otherwise there was a perfectly nice deli across the street, where I got the same sandwich(with cheese!) for $ 7.95, with no rudeness or yelling. Avoid unless necessary.

I think I’ve gone here for the last time. Feels dirty now, and it is expensive. $ 11.95 for a roast beef sandwich on grocery store bread. The tomatoes were floppy and old, the sandwich was okay. The guy didn’t smile or care about me or his job, he was completely lifeless. I handed him my card to pay, he swiped it once and said«it don’t work». Made him try it again and voila, it worked. He didn’t smile or thank me and talked quietly under his breath. Felt unwelcomed, and ripped off because the sandwich was just«okay». And they put the sandwiches in this giant clamshell plastic containers, which should be banned. I won’t have a Mendy’s craving again.

After my less than satisfactory experience at 2nd Avenue Deli, I decided to try this place the next time I had a Jew-food craving. I only got a large matzo ball soup so I can’t comment on much but here it goes… The line you stand on to order is a disorganized mess, everyone is cutting and all the college girls from their dorm across the street«save spots» in line for their friends, so even if the line looks short, it’s not, because they are placeholders for 3 other people. I was frustrated and one could tell I was getting HANGRIER by the second so she let me order before she did, as she was indecisive just like the rest of her friends. The large is tiny– you’d need 3 orders of it for it to be filling in any way. However, it was very good. As I stood on line I took note of the salad bar, which seems to have a good variety of toss-ins, if that’s what you’re craving. Decent lunch spot, I guess, but nothing special.

I’m not Jewish, but when I’m on line at Mendy’s, I’m in my own sort of emotional Israel. For that four minutes of staring at that hot dog rotisserie, I’m kvetching about the prices and feeling a general sense of malaise. The basement of Grand Central becomes a sort of Palestine, and I am alone. The Mendy’s ideal, full of Seinfeld allusion & Jewish novelty, quickly goes out the window once you stand in line. The first thing you’ll notice is the«Holy Kosher Batman!» prices. Those rabbis must charge a hefty fee for their blessing because we’re talking about, no exaggeration, $ 14 sandwiches. Then you’ll soon get yelled at by that Latino guy who says in a booming baritone, «NEXT!» He not only looks like he hates that job, but he also looks like he hates you. We need a rabbi to bless this guy. The cashier is an interesting life-form whose rudeness always comes across as menstrual and not personal. Food’s good, though. Jewishness.

One of my company’s execs, as I’ve mentioned in previous reviews keeps Kosher and has celiac disease. Another exec lacks dietary restrictions but often craves a good tongue sandwich. Personally, I like any place that can accommodate my esteemed bosses’ requests and promptly deliver to my office. Having eaten at Mendy’s before and received feedback from those who I’ve ordered meals for, I can describe it as a place that offers satisfactory, though not exceptional, Kosher delicatessen food and is certainly convenient for my purposes.
