DONOT order the vegetarian burrito from this place. We just ate a sun-dried tomato, mozzarella dry AS burrito. No cilantro, no guac, no sour cream, just salt and awfully bland awfulness. I know what you’re thinking: veggie burrito. But no. Veggie burrito = everything a delicious, cilantro filled goodness would have — the meat. And instead we got some weird soft bean wrap with ingredients that are still making my head spin. It’s enough to say we had to open the burritos, remove all the crap and add some ingredients we actually had in the fridge. So much for not cooking. Ugh.

I’m a Los Angeles native with a Mexican mom and found the Mexican food in NYC to be lacking, which appears to be a common complaint amongst my ilk. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I guess you should always trust a place that has its menu predominantly in Spanish. Mendez has a great selection of fairly uncommon Mexican food items a Californian grows to miss, such as the memelitas de frijol. While I’m used to them bursting at the seems with beans, these were done well and served authentically with creama y queso. I could do with a slightly thinner layer of masa, but these were nice treats. I am also pleased with the availability of real Mexican chorizo at this place, not the Spanish kind in sausage form. I had the quesadilla de papas y chorizo, which appeased my appetite and was certainly more authentic than the poser, hipster quesadillas I’ve had elsewhere in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, the concept of a wet burrito still escapes this place as much as it does any other Mexican joint out here, which is why I passed up what looked like a great selection of burritos. Overall this place had great tasting food that feels more authentic than anywhere else I’ve tried. This is probably the only Mexican place in NYC so far I’d be willing to eat at again. I can’t stress the extensive, unique menu enough. It’s definitely worth a try. I’m glad this opened up so close to me so I can get it delivered. It’s a $ 2 delivery fee, though, if you’re considering it.

Originally from San Diego I have high expectations for my Mexican food. Super good. Had roja chicken enchiladas, and carne asada tacos. Loved it.

Its ok, I’ve had better. They don’t put much meat and kind of kill with cilantro and onions. A huge up is that they are run by actual latinos. Living in NYC thats hard to find.

This has rapidly become my favorite joint in the neighborhood. The owners are super nice & helpful — one even held my dog’s leash while I walked in to pick up the food. The food is fantastic(try the enchiladas rojas & the flautas con papas y chorizo). The drinks are amazing(especially the watermelon & limonada) and most of all it’s super convenient. I order at least once a week from these guys, and I’ve never been disappointed.

The best pollo quesadilla i’ve had in Brooklyn. The cheese and spicy meat go together flawlessly. Warning: the tacos come cheese-less, but that much is expected at an authentic mexican restaurant. Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

probably giving it 5 to counter the low star reviews — must have been an off night in the kitchen. This food was GREAT! I encourage those of you who had a poor experience to give them another try!

Finally — a Mexican restaurant actually run by Latinos. When I saw the authentic rice and tacos al pastor I jumped for joy. The only drawback is their enchiladas — being from Texas I like my beef enchiladas to be ground meat in corn tortillas and theirs was more of a steak and a little dry for me. I can’t wait to sample everything on the me u — delivery was prompt and friendly. Welcome to the neighborhood!
