Idk why this place closed down because my hubby and I love everything about this place… Please come back.

Checked in for dinner a few times in both locations. Megu was once the place to go similar to Tao, Morimoto, Nobu, etc… but no longer a desire place for food or service. I remember the last time I was there the server spilled a glass of red wine all over the table. Didn’t do much to rectify the situation after. Highly unacceptable for an establishment like this.

I came here for the last restaurant week with a friend and the food and service was excellent! It was a rainy night and they made sure we were dry and warm when we first walked in. There was a little mix up with my reservation and so they sat us downstairs at first and brought us some complimentary drinks and appetizers then moved us to a great seat upstairs where we had our delicious sushi. They were attentive to make sure we were taken of but not annoying. Then they sent us some complimentary additional desserts to make up for the mix up(which again were delicious). I would certainly go back here again.

I prefer the downtown location to this one. I have had many meals in this one over the years because a friend of mine lives in the building, so it has been super convenient, but there is something about the atmosphere downtown that makes it so much better. Still, I enjoy the food and consider it very good if you know what to order here. Pricing is similar to any other restaurant of its caliber. Don’t let the reviews fool you, it is sexy, good food, and an above average experience, every time.

Delicious. Just tried this spot for takeout. The conclusion? Not more expensive than most local corner sushi spots, but better sushi. I tried the roasted Brussel Sprout appetizer, and 2 of the rolls. Delicious — and very fresh. Recommend. I’d like to go dine in sometime soon too, the space looks very nice.

Skip it during Restaurant Week. Service doesn’t match price tag and timing of courses was terrible. My fiancée and I were chatting with someone at another table about the big gap in time between appetizer and entrée. As far as flavor profiles are concerned, some tweaking is needed. I get it, sometimes presentation can mask deficiencies. But for the experienced diner, no amount of flames can distract them from the bottom line; flavor. The Kobe beef should be bypassed. It’s unseasoned and unfinished. You’re better served to dine at Golden Corral if you seek more flavor. The Branzino was another misstep. Again, the secondary flame service was egregious. I’m not a fan of eating off of a hot stone either. The saving grace for Megu is their Omakase. However, at $ 120 per person, it is not an option for your average diner. The Omakase option is also reserved for those that have 2 – 3 hours to dine. Not available for Restaurant Week…

I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times in the last year. What I’ve notice is the quality of service and food has gone down. First time(during August 2013 restaurant week), I went the waiter was very helpful and energetic, sushi and sashimi was fresh, and the food was very delicious, especially Kobe Sirloin«Kagero» Steak . Second time(April 2014), food was delicious, sushi was not as fresh, and the waiter wasn’t so excited to be working. Third time(tonight for dinner for restaurant week), sashimi was not fresh, took 30 minutes after appetizer to get entrée, Kobe Sirloin«Kagero» Steak was rare, instead of medium rare, and had several waiters. The only thing good was the dessert, which is always good.

Megu is trying to stay cool, but maybe the location is not helping, and the competence. Located in the 1st avenue near the United Nations Headquarters, it is located in the Trump Tower. The entrance is nice, with long stairs. The problem is that with so many options regarding japanese cuisine, Megu stays behind. We ate on a friday night, it wasn’t full, the crowd wasn’t cool. The waiters got confused and gave us the plate of another table, and gave our plate to others. We waited for hours to get our order. In sushi time, that is not commendable. The hostess was beautiful, the waiter was nice, the food was ok, but nothing impressing. If I’m gonna eat sushi, I’ll do it somewhere else. I was very curious about Megu, so i’m glad I ate there. The space is beautiful, the ceilings, the big tiger painted in the wall, I want to make a special mention about the music, it was simply INCREDIBLE. The best electronic chill out!

This is an amazing space with wonderful food, but I just couldn’t bring myself to give it four stars. The service was very slow, and they didn’t explain any of the dishes. The restaurant wasn’t very full either. For the price… its just not worth it…

To be frank, I am not impressed with this place. The location I went to was the midtown location across from the UN. I went with my gf on a weeknight during restaurant week. The service was OK but the food was just meh. Not much taste and the meal seem really safe for this type of restaurant. I had sushi /sashimi plate while my gf had the kobi beef on hot stone. The silverware that we used seem dated and old like its seen Nixon back he was still president. The meals are on the pricey side but that was to be expected. I just wanted a better experience and food. The presentation was lacking and unfulfilling. Overall 3 stars because I was just not impressed.

This place is gorgeous. High ceilings and wooden décor gives it a zen feel(+1 star), and might be a good place to impress out-of-towners if you’re not paying. However, the food was not memorable and was served in weight watcher’s portions. While the sushi was decent, it wasn’t nearly as fresh as I expected given the price per piece. Service was standard and as expected of such a high-end restaurant. Unfortunately, I left dinner hungry. Bottom line: The portions are tiny and extremely overpriced. For your money, there are so many better options out there(ie: Yasuda for fresh sushi, Kyo Ya for kaiseki).

Came here because I had a seven course dinner Gilt deal. The restaurant décor was beautiful and the service was good, but I probably wouldn’t come back. I’ve heard about Megu for a while and wondered how the sushi compares to other Japanese restaurants. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. The course starts off light and progressively gets heavier, which is the norm for tasting menus. I came out super full and the deal is not bad at all for the amount of food, but I was expecting much higher quality sushi. There are many restaurants that serve better quality sushi, some imported from Japan, that I would rather eat at.

Started with a yellowtail and scallion roll which was delicious but nothing out the ordinary and $ 8 for a 6 piece roll. Had the Kobe Filet Mignon 3oz on the Stone Grill with Hennessey Flambée($ 50). The meat comes out already starting to cook on the hot stone and personally it was a little overcooked for me. Next time they suggested that I ask them not to put to meat on until it gets to the table. The sides were delayed — I think the server forgot to put them in. Got sides of charcoal grilled Brussels sprouts and asparagus, both $ 6 each. The Brussels sprouts were not cooked through and asparagus was a little overcooked. By the time we received them, we were halfway through our filet so they took them off the check. The service was on the spotty side. Would’ve liked to see better service with this kind of price point. But they did give us a smörgåsbord of desserts to try since we did get some spotty service. It came out on a super long tray and it had just about everything on the dessert menu. The green tea cake really didn’t have flavor but for some reason we couldn’t stop eating it lol… I think it was the texture because it was so soft and velvety. They were kind enough to charge our phones for us at the hostess stand because we were visiting out of town and were concerned we may need our phone in case of an emergency and we were grateful. All in all, the meal was superb. I’m willing to get the 6oz next time and enjoy it’s rich flavor one slow bite at a time.

* Limited to the restaurant week dinner menu! Jojo used to be my only restaurant worth trying during the restaurant week before this one came along; now it’s MEGU! :) I went there for dinner with a couple of friends and added Sake pairing for additional $ 28. The ambiance is modern, sleek, and sophisticated and you might want to dress up for this place. :) For appetizer, I had the spicy toro tuna tartare. The tartare was adequately seasoned, fatty, and had some crunch element sprinkled on top of it. My friends had the fried shrimp and they were good, but I preferred mine. :) We added a regular order of the crispy asparagus and oh my!!! :D They are awesome! Thick asparagus is coated with some crunches, deep fried, and presented on a stick stuck upright on a stone brick. Love the presentation and the asparagus itself! Just GETTHESE! The best part is the main course!!! I had the Kobe Beef on the hot stone! I’ve heard from so many people that it’s not much, but I actually thought the portion was fair! :) It comes with a bowl of rice, btw. They bring the sliced beef on the hot stone and pour the conac around the stone to get the aroma smear into the meat. It just melts in your mouth… The sushi looked awesome too, so just order one of each and share! :) I had the yuzu crème brûlée and it was good, but the yuzu flavor was so faint. I would’ve like it a bit stronger. I am taking one star off because of the unimpressive dessert. In general, I think you should check this place; trying the kobe beef alone is worth the trip. :)

Feeling lucky? Then come to Megu, becuase this is the place where you do need some luck to get solid food + service The night I went, i was apparently on the good side of the luck goddess, and LOVED my orders — grilled salmon with scallions and sauteed veggies, and the steamed egg in a shell with truffles. However, 3 feet away from me, my poor friend wasn’t having a great day. His orders were pathetically underwelming, such as the *signature* kobe stake(how ironic) and the Italian white wine. So feeling lucky? Think again, or just come to Megu!

Eh. I suspect the Tribecca location is better(definitely swankier as the Midtown location just comes off swanky meets corporate = tacky. For one, they have a bunch of conference rooms embedded in the resto for all the Trump Tower guests and businessfolk). We did pass the more«romantic» seats right near the bar– these cozy two seaters, which a lot of couples seemed to like. However, my bf and I sat across from each other from a rather large table, which was really more business like. My bf and I came here on a Wed at 8 since I bought a travelzoo deal for $ 69. It was basically the $ 503 course pre fixe. One thing to note is that you should print out Travelzoo vouchers if you plan to use it. they don’t dig the iphone flashing thing. Our waitress was very nice though(dressed in a cheesy kimono) and was still able to take it. She was at least better than the hostess, who wasn’t around when we came in. 5 min later, she asked us if we wanted to check our coats. hm. In any case, minus some hiccups in service, the food was really just ok. Which is why this place gets a mediocre rating. I had high hopes for Megu but I am thinking this is Megu downtown only, and I would come back to try that location. The issue could very well be on the 3 course pre fixe menu, they never give you the best stuff(after all, we did see this couple next to us repeatedly order these«light up» dishes. errrrrr?) For my 3 course, I started off with the rock shrimp dish, which was plump and had more of a chinese chili accent to it versus pure mayo-style rock shrimp tempura. A pretty standard dish though, all in all. My bf gor this picked cabbage salad, which was like«papaya salad» he described with some eh fluke sashimi on top. The veggies were pretty good. We both got the cod for our main– which was on the fatty, sweet miso, saucy side. and not as hot and charred grilled as I’d hope. This dish is also better at EN and Zenkichi. The menu itself was nothing earth shattering and common to the J cuisine. I should also mention that the portions all in all were a wee small. The pickled veggies(squash, carrots) were sort of microwave-y and starchy so not the best. The rice that it came with though, was filling. For desert, I had the green tea crêpe, which was pretty good. A bit creamy. It was sort of hard to taste the green tea due to the cream. My bf had the fruit plate out of healthiness. With our deal, we were able to get a drink up to $ 17. My bf got some kind of strong sesame sake drink, and I had the only cocktail that came with shochu. it was very strong with a coconut/mango y taste. I couldn’t drink more than 2 sips without being totally toasted. In any case, an ok experience. Like I said, willing to try Megu downtown… but glad I at least got the deal to check it off my bucket list

While I consider myself to semi-frequent patron of Megu Tribeca, I have always wondered what Megu Midtown was like. I’m a bit of a creature of habit and don’t venture too far from my hood often. Luckily for me, my aunt wanted to meet up for lunch near her work one day. Since it’s a known fact that Megu Tribeca doesn’t open up for lunch, heading up to the East Side for lunch at Megu sounded perfect. What I didn’t realize upon coming to this location is that Megu has a prefix for lunch. If you’re a woman, an added bonus is that your prefix doesn’t include just ONE dessert, but TWO! I honestly don’t know where to begin. Megu has some of the best quality Japanese food Manhattan has to offer. The sushi here is absolutely top grade and the tender Kobe Beef is well worth the price tag. Service at this Megu also does not disappoint, as our waiter was really nice and engaging. To finish off our meals, I always enjoy the Green Tea Crêpe and the Crème Brulee. Although there are many similarities between the two locations, they are both unique in their own ways. The menu is generally pretty much the same, but the difference is the beautiful décor and what part of town they’re in. Although I prefer staying Downtown, I was not disappointed with my trip to this Megu. Whichever location, be sure that you will have a great meal, and great service! I highly recommend coming here for lunch if you have the time and are in the area!

Great food! Ordered the Agadashi Tofu, Salmon Tartare, and Yellowtail Carpaccio. Topped it off with Tiramisu for dessert and chamomille tea. EVERYTHING was really good. Dinged one star off for service because I felt like we waited around forever: to order, to receive our food, and to receive our bill. The ambiance is romantic with candlelit tables and dimmed overhead lights. Great date spot!

I couldn’t find a reason not to give Megu Midtown 5 stars. I came here for lunch during restaurant week and it was worth every penny. I always look at the restaurant week menu beforehand to see what they offer and Megu Midtown offered a very good menu. We had: Appetizer 1. Yellowtail Carpaccio — The presentation was beautiful and the fish was fresh. 2. Crispy«Okaki» Asparagus — Cute presentation, asparagus had a crunchy & crispy outer layer. Entrée 3. Kobe Sirloin Steak — Very good piece of meat with an extravagant presentation along with it. 4. MEGU Sushi Roll Combination — Lovely presentation of various rolls, delicious, and generous portions. Dessert 5. NY Cheesecake — Beautifully presented and tasty dessert. 6. Green Tea Crêpe — Beautifully presented Lady M’s most popular & delicious dessert. Very relaxed and elegant atmosphere, delicious food beautifully presented, and spot on service. Highly recommended for restaurant week lunch.
