It’s not a bad spot at all — they get the job done and are friendly. Just very expensive so rarely use it, even for NY. Dry cleaning has come out fine and laundry — no issues. I guess that’s the price of convenience!

Extremely expensive. $ 30 to clean a winter coat & $ 40 to clean a cheap faux fur top(brought at target for $ 12). I took the faux fur top to another cleaner who did a fine job for $ 2. I would go back in an absolute emergency — the job they do is fine, but the prices are scary,

I have only used this place for tailoring and he did a fine job on my things. I cannot complain. His prices are high, but so are the other dry cleaners in the area.

I have mixed feelings about McAlpine. First of all, let me raise a point about the name of this place. On the door of the ‘hole’ the sign says«McAlpin», and then on the sign next to the door it says«McAlphia». Somehow the owner wasn’t able to get the name straight. This has always seemed weird to me. That aside, the owner is actually pretty pleasant, although I think he has put the moves on my girlfriend when she goes by without me. There are language issues though. My main issue with McAlpin is that the prices are extremely high(as others said). We usually go to him for our laundry and for our dry-cleaning, and I think we get hosed everytime. The cost is usually about $ 30 to $ 40 for a bag of laundry and between $ 5 and $ 20 per item of dry cleaning. But yes, we still go back to him every time(and will keep doing so), just because it is so much more convenient than anything else in the area. Based on what the other reviewers said, we won’t be taking anything to him for alterations, though.

So I’ve been a couple of times for drycleaning — good enough job, I suppose. Although it smells like a gross, wet dog when you walk by their hole at Herald Towers. I had the unfortunate opportunity to take a pair of jeans to get altered — just taken up, since they were too long. Sounds simple, no? First, English is an issue — which ok, who needs to communicate with language. But then the guy totally messed up my pants — one leg was longer than the other — and that’s NOT the way my body comes. Oh, that was AFTER he made my jeans into capris. Had to take my pants down to him a third time because the guy is completely nuts. I think he needs glasses. Charged $ 20, YES, $ 20 to alter jeans. Alter, yeah. I’d like to give him an alteration. The dry cleaning is expensive too.
