I’m normally a huge fan of Merguez sausage. So when i saw this truck outside work on a rainy day I decided to skip the trek to the falafel place, and try the merguez platter instead. No big lineups, usually a warning sign, but it was raining so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The preparation was quick, and the service friendly. The food however was tepid, probably because the half a box of salad, the beets and cucumbers added in were all cold. So despite me just traveling up with this food in the elevator, it had already become cold by the time i got to my desk. The merguez was not as flavorful as expected but somewhat redeemed itself with hot sauce. The salad was spring greens, not iceberg lettuce, which may have stayed crispier longer. Even though the quantity of food was decent I found the platter overpriced for what it is at $ 8. I think this truck would fare better if the food was spicier and hotter in temperature, prices were lower and they served salad in a separate container. A so-so experience. Will not be buying again.

I don’t get why the reviews of this food truck are terrible — because I thought the food was delish! Tried the kofta platter with the beetroot side and other veggies and rice. It was amazing! extremely flavourful. And only $ 7 a pop. Will definitely be eating there again!

I waited in line to place my lunch order at this food truck outside of my office today with much anticipation. My colleague got the veggie burger and I the beef platter with couscous. Both dishes were utterly. totally. inedible and had to be thrown away after a bite. My beef had dirt in it, but even if it hadn’t…the food was stone cold and tasted terrible. This was one of the top 5 worst food moments of my life. It was right up there with the grim mystery-meat lunch in East Berlin at the tender age of 16 when The Wall was still up. If I could give this truck minus 5 stars, I would.

Hit up the Marrakech truck on Hudson street and had the Chicken platter with the mushrooms. Was OK, not bad not great. I’d hit it up again and try something else for sure.

What will these crazy food truckers think up next? Well, if you’re Marrakech Chefs, you’d answer with Moroccan slow-cooked meat platters, apparently. I say, why the hell not? For starters, good luck finding this thing. Yes, it may be bright orange with flames decals running down its side, but that’s not what I mean. Most of these trendy food trucks are often fully-loaded with a whole marketing angle and most importantly, a website, or at least a Twitter account with more than one month-old tweet. This does not seem to be Marrakech Chefs’ deal. Needless to say, when this elusive four-wheeled beast rolled up near my office, I had no choice but to give it a go. With only two guys handling the operation(I assume them to be the titular Chefs), the line actually moved along rather quickly — a huge plus for food trucks, given that most of them make you place your order, then wait thirty minutes on the sidewalk with the rest of the suckers. However, as I moved through the queue, they did happen to announce they were out of burgers — which was only, oh, half of their menu. No matter — I went for the Merguez(Sausage) Platter(over couscous, with mixed greens, beets, and cucumbers) anyway. The links were a bit on the soft side, but that, I’m sure, is a result of the slow cooking process. Regardless, they had a very nice, almost sweet flavor to them, came by the boatload, and went well with the couscous. And the veggies were an appreciated touch to counter-balance the meat overload. After some quick research on the interwebs, I found different iterations of the menu I saw in person at the truck, including several French Crepes offerings and Homemade Belgian Cut Fries. Perhaps I got the All-Moroccan menu because I didn’t see these Euro dudes anywhere, but, when all was said and done, I was more or less satisfied with my lunchtime grub. With so many wild and crazy food trucks out there, Marrakech Chefs is pretty middle-of-the-road(no pun intended), but still worth a try. Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of the speedy service here. The order behind you is not taken until your dish has been bagged and ready to go. Perhaps when Marrakech Chefs becomes as popular as their more established colleagues, they will be makin’ you wait all the same. But, until then, catch it if you can!
