We went there with a group of friends on the Father’s Day. The friendly owners were welcoming us at the table and chatted with us. The atmosphere is great. The food was exceptionally good. I am originally from France and living in NYC for 12 years now. I almost felt at home at this restaurant. I could tell that the chef is French and is using a traditional cooking technique. The food presentation is very good with the right portion in each plate. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you enjoy quality French food. The price is totally reasonable compared to other French restaurants in NYC. Definitely the best French restaurant I had been to in NYC. look forward to my next visit.

Nice atmosphere at this French bistro serving unpretentious food. A little on the slow side for the service, and no dish was unforgettable, but if you are in the neighborhood it is a nice option. +1 for the kids menu.

Stumbled into this place after a scavenger hunt in Bloomingdales(which is around the corner). Girlfriends and I came in for a nightcap and dessert so we sat at the bar. The cocktail and desserts were really good. I got the trio of ice-cream and it was fantastic!

Stumbled into this place while shopping with the family. My kid desperately had to use the restroom. After we were done we rolled up to the bar. The bartender was amazing! I have never met a friendlier staff at a restaurant in Nyc! I ended up having two glasses of scotch and the escargot shared plate. Everything was excellent and I would love to go back.

Food was fine but I had the sense no one was in charge. The food took a very long time and the restaurant was not crowded. Also the staff seemed to give more attention cleaning the floor than to the patrons sitting there. With so many other great restaurants in the area this place is doomed.

I took my wife to Maison Hugo first chance and we both enjoyed tremendously. This is a great place to have a drink, enjoy genuine French food creatively presented. We started with a cocktail, slid into some delicious plates. The salade maison is fantastic –light, herby, with a perfect lemon vinaigrette. Escargot ravioli –a new way to do a classic, really good. Tuna carpaccio(tarter de thon) presentation with ginger and wasabi accents is sublime.

Well executed french food. I highly recommend the lightly seared salmon crudo with the vibrant dill sauce as an appetizer. For dinner, we had the coq au vin and the homard. According to our waitress, the coq au vin had been marinated for two days and the outcome was an excellent rendition of the dish. The homard was described as a curry/lobster sauce over rice, but you actually get a decent portion of lobster with a very delicate curry sauce on top and was another great meal, although it could have used a slightly larger serving of rice. But a couple points on service: — BUYENOUGHWINEGLASSES — Our wine was served in teeny tiny port glasses. I suppose they were short of proper wine glasses, but it felt odd to drink Bordeaux from a port glass. I believe wine glasses are a basic, inexpensive item that no restaurant should run out of ever. — SERVICEALLYOURPATRONSEQUALLY — We were almost willing to overlook the port glasses if everyone got port glasses, but then we looked over and saw that wine was being brought to other older, more established patrons in the correct wine glasses and noticed a pattern as to which tables got the correct glasses. The chef and/or his wife also checked on these tables(I neither need nor want the chef to come over to my table… just pointing it out as another element of disparity), but it’s fair to desire the same level of service and that includes the same proper stemware.

Great little French Bistro tucked between 5th and Lex. Unassuming from the outside, but beautiful, modern décor, great service and wonderful food. Highly recommend this place, for a romantic date, friends night out, and any occasion where you’d like to sit back with a nice drink and enjoy delicious food.

Lousy, expensive French food in Manhattan is the worst way to kick off a romantic evening. Unfortunately, that is what this place delivered. The most offensive dish was the«tarte de thon». This tuna carpaccio appetizer looked like five slices of 99-cent pizza in a preposterous presentation. The tuna was barely existent and the dish was overwhelmed by bread and ginger. The porcini ravioli appetizer was decent but ill-prepared. The pasta was so overcooked it fell apart on the fork. Not exactly al dente! Perhaps this was more a bowl of soup with some pasta nuggets floating in it? Any way, half a teaspoon of foi gras is all you get for your $ 22 appetizer. «Really weak» is the best compliment my wife can offer here. The«salad d’autumne» was adequate, but completely lacking the spiced pecans listed on the menu. Seriously, zero pecans. The pear was delicious but they could have doubled the portion — it was hard to find the fruit hiding amongst the greens. Finally we get to the entrees! Well, we were extremely disappointed because they had no mussels! There should have been a sign outside saying«no mussels today». Then we would have found a different restaurant. We split the burger and the FRIESWEREICECOLD! «If anything, a French restaurant ought to make great frites,» my wife said. The owner sensed our disappointment and came over to remove and replace the offending potatoes. Unfortunately, they were delivered after we had finished the burger. It was way too late anyway to salvage this really bad meal. Service: very slow. The place was half empty and it still took us over an hour to get our meal. On a positive note: the place is beautiful and the red wines are served at the perfect temperature. We won’t be coming back.

This place was a real find! I was in the area for another reason and then needed a good meal, and luckily saw this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, starting with the bread they started with. The steak was perfect and the lightly charred parsley on the potatoes was a wonderful touch. For dessert I had mascarpone ice cream, which alone would have me going back there again. I look forward to my next visit.

Went here for lunch with a friend the other day. It opened only three weeks ago and was really happy I did. The duck rillettes and gorgeres were superlative, as was the coq au vin,(huge portion), the pork, done as a chop, with mashed potatoes, wonderful sauce and a green veggie mouse. We tried several wines by the glass, including the champagne, all wonderful, as were the profiteroles. The Australian cutie who was our server was professional, attentive, interesting and very helpful re. choosing food and wines. The owner, a French chef, prepares all of the dishes, himself, meaning that nothing comes to the table prepared by a random kitchen assistant who has very limited understanding of French food. This is an excellent addition to the neighborhood and a great place to just relax and enjoy a more modern Parisian type ambiance

i went here after the Giants lost to the Pats, which was nice for me since i’m an Eagles fan,(although they lost just as bad to the Dolphins). anyway, the place is a client of my friend Brett, so i was thinking it wouldn’t be so great, more of a sympathy thing. WRONG. it was phenomenal. it isn’t cheap, but for the area, it isn’t too expensive either, and its so, so good. i got the scallops, yum, and i also got some of my buddies prime rib, also delicious. very modern and extremely clean inside, the place is perfect for either a romantic date or business function. will def be back!

We’ve been twice to Maison Hugo and plan to return often in the future. It’s got top-level French food in a welcoming, warm environment, unlike many similar French restaurants which are exceedingly stuffy and exorbitantly priced. Here’s what’s to love: 1) The«Hugo» Martini — a spry, potent vodka cocktail 2) Tuna tarte — Simply one of the best appetizers we’ve ever had. We had to order seconds one night. Thinly sliced tuna over a crispy flatbread with ginger and scallions. We’re planning to return for a light dinner at the bar in the future for just the martini and the tarte :) 3) Rotisserie chicken — Crispy and juicy, substantive and elegantly plated 4) Scallops — Succulent and bursting with an Asian-inspired flavor 5) Mac/cheese — We went once with our kids and we had to keep stealing bites of their mac/cheese 6) Location and setting — situated conveniently near 59th/Lex, nicely appointed 7) Vibe — warm, inviting, vibrant Here’s what’s not to love: 1) It’s a new restaurant. Some items were still being added to the menu, and service wasn’t as efficient as it should be. That said, waiters, bar staff, and others were pleasant, kind, well informed, and well trained, which bodes well for the future.

Brand new French bistro on 61st and Park! Owned by French chef Florian Hugo — love the vibe of this place and nice to have a French restaurant around midtown that is not run by some corporate bs. Food is made with love. It’s like going to your French BFFs home who happens to cook great French food:) my faves: light curry lobster with basmati rice; chicken poulet with roasted potatoes and Swiss chard; escargots and the light and fluffy Profiteroles! Yum! Will definitely come back!
