I will never shop here. The woman who is the gemologist and sales person is one of the rudest people I have ever met. I went in to shop for a gift and she was dismissive, disrespectful, and a miserable person. I’d rather spend my money where I get great service and honest help. Warning to all — shop somewhere else.

My advice: DONOT under any circumstances do business with these people. One of the most dishonest dealers in the business. You’d be well advised to take your business elsewhere.

Oh. My. God. If I were rich, I would spend every penny of my money here. I am a lover of art glass and art pottery. I am an impassioned lover of art nouveau jewelry. I am crazy sick over art nouveau furniture. And I am a sick, sick lover of Tiffany – their jewelry, their glass, their bronzes – Tiffany & Co., Tiffany Studios – whatever. Imagine all of these things in one place, not behind a showcase like at a museum, but actually sitting there out for you to touch, run your hands over(carefully!), try on and admire. Galle glass vases, vintage Cartier jewelry, lamp stands, magnificent inlaid nouveau mirrors, peacock and dragonfly lamps with mosaic bases… I have never swooned, but I did get faint when I finally got buzzed in there and began looking. Now, I am not an UES kind of girl. I don’t look good in Tory Burch, I don’t like wearing pearls, I work in the nonprofit arts sector and I couldn’t care less about the Hamptons. Being up there is like being in a foreign country. However, there is where I found myself walking down Madison towards Bloomingdales last Friday, and there is where Macklowe quite rightfully belongs. The fellow in there shopping while I was there dropped $ 30K on a vase without batting an eyelash and would have bought more… if he had seen anything else he «really liked». I was hard pressed not to like every single thing in the shop. What is it like being able to drop $ 30K on something like a 100-year old vase you don’t even need? I can’t imagine it. After an hour or so of admiring and coveting, I was just leaving when out of the corner of my eye in a glass case right by the door I saw a small Tiffany bronze bulldog figurine. If you know me, you know I have a thing for bulldogs. This one looked a lot like my Frenchie, Josie. I know you know what’s coming. What can I say? I bought it. Isn’t that what credit cards are for? It’s a sin, I know, but I did it and I feel glad. I feel like I have a small piece of this wonderful artist’s history, and one that has other emotional connections with me as well. This isn’t exactly a stroll in with a piece of pizza in hand kind of place, obviously. I wouldn’t recommend going inside unless you really like this period. Museums buy from Macklowe, so you get the idea of the level they carry. They’re not exactly super-welcoming in there, either, but with an inventory like that, I think they are right to be a little discerning, and I didn’t take it personally.
