As a lunch spot near the office, it’s some of the most generous and good quality sushi when you’re only paying $ 12 – 13 for a lunch combo that includes a healthy bowl of miso soup. I like to eat in here if I have the time and one of the few stools is open, but generally it’s an in-and out type of place. They have a lot of pre-made boxes to go in the fridge, but they’re generally really fast so you’d have to be crazy to not just wait a few minutes for freshly made sushi.

Food was good, but they don’t add salt unfortunately during the cooking. After coupe hours later me and my friend had stomachache. We were blaming the food :( I don’t know what to say being honest. Also they don’t have restroom if you wanna wash your hands before food :(

I absolutely loved it. I didn’t order sushi, it was too cold outside and I needed a good broth! I ordered the terayaki chicken — comes with rice, a salad and fresh miso soup, all for $ 9/$ 10. It was PERFECT, the size was big even though I ordered the regular one and everything was as tasty as it gets. The space is small so it’s mostly meant to be take out, so don’t expect to dine there. Original Japanese food at a great price. Will come back again!(Actually probably like tomorrow)

Barf. I got a to-go order of an 8pc sushi set sitting in the fridge and I probably shouldn’t have. The fish tasted like frostbite and the rice that lacked the characteristic vinegar taste of sushi rice was beginning to get ice crystals too. At least the pieces of fish were generously cut but were shaped suspiciously geometrically like it came out of a Popin’ Cookin’ sushi set. Maguro on 28th and 3rd, forever and always!

This is really a take-out place with a counter and a few seats. The sushi is decent and very reasonably priced. I love the shrimp curry bowl and the people who work here are very nice. Perfect place if you want to pick something up to take with you.

Solid sushi. I’ve walked by this place a dozen times. Tiny take-out place, not a traditional sushi bar. We bought a ton of roles n sides, and for the amount of food, rolls were about ½ cost of sushi at a regular bar or even like a whole foods or fairway. great quality given the location n the fact to was take-out only. Not saying this is the best sushi in town or in the area, but when leaving Penn — solid place to pick up some good sushi

Went to LZ Sushi today for a quick bite. It’s a very small restaurant with a counter and a few stools to sit at while you wait for your food. You could eat at these counters if you want — but this place is definitely more of a take out service. They have pre-made sushi entrée’s to go, including seaweed salads, edamame, and noodle side dishes — but you can also order at the counter and have the sushi fresh made for you. I ordered the Lunch Maki Combo Special. This came with 4 rolls(4 pieces each) Spicy Tuna Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, California Roll, and an Eel Roll. There is an option to get brown rice instead of white in your rolls which I liked very much.(even with the .50 upcharge per roll) My lunch order also came with a large container of Miso Soup. The soup was mostly broth with a few pieces of tofu and seaweed — so I ended up not eating it anyway. Overall the sushi wasn’t bad, but nothing to write home about. Just a small quiet, friendly establishment where you can pick up fresh made sushi and walk back to your office or a local park to eat your meal.

At this price, you cannot get better sushi in midtown Manhattan. I got for the sashimi special — $ 12.50 for 10 pieces of whitetail, salmon and tuna, plus miso soup. The whitetail and salmon are consistently outstanding here; the tuna is average but still delicious. There’s plenty of to-go boxes ready in the fridge, or they will(of course) make whatever you want as you wait. Never had a bad meal here.

Quick service and good sushi for the prices. I am a fan of the curry dishes and their noodles. Lots of people in my office go there and they all love it. Note that they don’t take Amex.

I can’t review the sushi, as I didn’t have it, but their udon is pretty subpar. My udon came with: — the same small bland shrimp you use for low-budget shrimp cocktails(think rubbery and tasteless) — bean sprouts — chopped up iceberg lettuce. Iceberg. *shudders* — a large helping of cilantro floating on top So much of Japanese cooking focuses on in-season vegetables, and this was the antithesis of anything of the sort. Service was fine for a take-out place, though the emphasis here is clearly to get people in and out quickly– even in sitting to wait for my order, I was jostled and bumped into by the staff several times, and the place wasn’t half full. Part of me wonders if this place stays open mostly because of tourists, because there’s so much better Japanese food just a few blocks away…

Hands down the best place for lunch sushi. Always super fresh fish and delicious rolls. I have been there since the day they opened and I was never disappointed. Don’t get it for a company lunch thing. The party platters are great but it’s best if you get it made fresh right there.

Not the best sushi place in the world but it’s cheap, quick, and really good. I usually get one of the sushi combos which comes with miso soup and it’s well under $ 20. Perfect for solo dining or to go. I always come here when I’m staying near Penn Station and need a quick bite.

The food is good, however, eat there at your own risk! I had been frequenting Lz Sushi for a few months and was happy with the food. I had even recommended it to several friends. However, a couple of weeks ago, while eating their blue crab roll(made with real crabmeat), I had the misfortunate of chomping down on a rather large and hard piece of crab shell. It got painfully lodged between my teeth and took several minutes to extract with a toothpick. The cashier and sushi chef were aware of what happened but didn’t say anything. The following week, I went back for another lunch, assuming(hoping, really) that it had just been a fluke. I reminded the cashier of what had happend the previous week and he just nodded. I ordered the blue crab roll, again, which this time came with several hard pieces of shell. When I complained about it this time, I was told, and I quote, «you need to be careful when you eat it.» I asked him to clarify to which he responded that it was the customer’s responsibliity to pick the shells out. At this point the sushi chef turned to the cashier and said something in Japanese and they both laughed(I am not kidding). Not only is having to remove unseen shell from a roll an impossible and unrealistic request, but this restaurant’s laziness and incompetence is going to cause injury. Yes, the sushi is good and cheap. But is it worth cracking a tooth over or, a far worse scenario, choking on???

Delicious take away sushi at an affordable price. Pulled up Lz Sushi and had dinner by myself one night. Most of the restaurants in the area were overpriced and I needed to spend wisely while traveling on company business. Settled on this place since it was only a block away from the Doubletree. They have a pretty straightforward menu with very reasonable prices. I had the sushi combination D which included miso soup. There were like 20 pieces! There were spicy tuna, salmon, and california rolls. I also grabbed a bottle of Oicha green tea and a plate of edamame. All that for under $ 20… Not sure where else can beat that amount of food. There’s limited counter space if you decide to dine in. They have complimentary hot tea.

Good, fresh, flavorful sushi in the middle of an area of town where there’s very little good food. This is a small, unpretentious very authentic sushi joint. Most people seem to be taking out, but they have seven or eight stools and a counter where you can eat in, which is what I did. I ordered a spicy tuna avocado roll and a spicy yellowtail. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the fish obviously fresh. The spicy tuna had a nice smoky kind of spice, that was good and a little bit unusual. At the time of this review, they did not carry gluten-free soy sauce, so if you need that, bring your own(thankfully I did). They have a very limited drink selection, just one refrigerator full of Snapple, Coke, and water, and the like – again unpretentious but just what you need. I would suggest this as a go-to sushi place if you find yourself in this part of town near Penn station(which hopefully you won’t, too often).

Price, tastiness, quickness, and friendliness make this a winner in my book! I only had 10 minutes to eat before catching a train at Penn Station, so sushi seemed like a good bet. Unilocal led me here and I’m happy they did! I had a rainbow roll that was out in just a few minutes. Great tasting rice and pretty decent fish. My lunch cost a little more than $ 10 which I though was a good deal for the roll.

Bad sushi and tastes like Frozen dumplings. For a location so close to Penn Station with at least 3 competing sushi restaurants less than a block away, you’d expect them to at least try to compete. I came here for lunch and the sushi boxes are in a cold unit in a small restaurant. The menu is taped to the wall and printed on pieces of paper. Despite how bad it looked, I still thought to give it a try. I bought the Naruto box for $ 8.95 thinking it was part of the lunch special. The box came with 8 pieces of sushi, some pickled ginger and wasabi as well as soy sauce packets. Little did I know the lunch special was you had to buy 2BOXES in order to get a free miso soup. So they are telling me I need to buy almost $ 18.00 to get a lousy free miso soup??? I still didn’t walk out, I actually decided to but their chicken dumplings for. $ 4.50 as a little snack. It came with 8 dumplings and some sauce and little instructions to hear them up for 40 seconds in the microwave. I went back to my office to eat since LZ has only 5 stools along the wall and it seemed a little sad to eat there. Considering what I paid, I figured this had to be awesome Sushi. WRONG! The sushi was old and a bit rubbery. The pickled ginger clearly came out of a can. But the worst was the dumplings. I heated them to specification but they rated like something that had been frozen previously and with freezer burn. It had a chalk like quality to it. Never again! I’m sticking to Caanan around the corner they does 2 rolls bento box for lunch special with miso soup for $ 9.00 and their sushi was fresh.
