Friend picked up some pizza on the way to my apt and it survived the cold trek to the UES without getting soggy. Plus it was still warm. I’m IMPRESSED. We shared the #17– Salseccia e broccoli: sausage w broccoli rabe and we devoured the whole thing! Amalfi Salad– lots of arugula, not a lot of cherry tomatoes. We almost didn’t order this because it comes with goat cheese(meh…) but they were able to substitute w shaved parmigiano. All in all a solid meal. I’ll probably be open to trying their other pizzas and salads or even dining in if I’m in the area.

What a great pizza! Beautiful charring on the crust, not soggy, wonderful fresh mozzarella. This is why we go to NY for Pizza. Very charming small New York spot, family enjoyed the food and our server. Calzone was very authentic, light, yet big flavor

I was so excited to have a great pizza. I read reviews, saw some pictures and I was convinced this was the place I had to go for the perfect pizza. Unfortunately I have been disappointed by Luzzo’s, the service was horrible. I really believe service might be more important than the food, because even if it was bad at least you made up for it by catering to my needs in a timely manner. The pizza was cold when they brought it out and the fried gnocchi was also cold. If you want good pizza please find somewhere else.

Let me preface by saying this review is SOLELY a review of the food and not the service! This place was highly recommended by a friend so I finally decided to give it a try. Went here with my boyfriend, he got the calzone pie and I got the Michele and wow was I blown away! The crust was so thin and perfectly cooked. Seriously one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had and growing up on Long Island I’ve had a lot of good pizzas. Will definitely be going back to this place soon!

Honestly one of my favorite things in life is pizza. I thank the Italians everyday for creating something so delicious and satisfying. I am always down to try new pizza types, toppings, places — you name it. That being said, I first tried Luzzos at the Gansevoort Market in West Village and fell in love. I had the simple Bufala — tomato sauce, mozzarella di bufala, basil slice but it wowed me just as so. The crust was just the perfect thickness and not too heavy and the mix of flavors just complemented each other. My girlfriends and I decided to go to Luzzos for our Christmas dinner(they had gone before, it was my first time) and it was the best Christmas meal. We ordered the Tartufata — tomato sauce, mozzarella, truffle pâté, basil & the Est — tomato sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, spicy salami, basil. The Tartufata was to die for — but I’m a sucker for truffle anything. Definitely one you should order. We also ordered the eggplant Parmesan appetizer and it was alright — not the best I’ve ever had. I suggest ordering more pizza then apps though so that you can try the many different slices — there are 20 different pies! My goal is to try each and every pie! The chef also gave us the zeppole con Nutella dessert compliments of him — which was a nice treat! Warm and delicious — melts in your mouth. Warm and cozy place — def a must go if you love pizza just as much as I do!

Good pizza but service was a bit of a mess while we were there. If management is not present on site they need to empower someone that is to make decisions to rectify very poor service situations.(One couple’s dish came out ~30 minutes after everyone else’s, everyone was done when it arrived. No comp was offered until it was basically demanded and no apology was given). The situation was finally semi resolved after the manager was called but it was a disaster coming to a solution. I don’t blame the servers working because they probably hadn’t been trained properly or been given the ok to make such decisions. Hopefully they will use this situation as a learning opportunity because the food is good.

An East Village favorite! Luzzo’s is a good spot that will more than satisfy a pizza craving. Their menu has so many options to choose from that anyone can find one that they like. I got the speck pizza: tomato sauce, mozzarella, speck, shaved parmigiano, balsamic, and basil. I had family from out of town visiting and wanted to show them what real New York pizza tastes like and this pie got a thumbs up from all of nommers at the table. I will say the pizza is so thin that the center of it is kind of soggy and doesn’t really hold it’s shape when you’re trying to pick it up to eat.

Coal-oven, Neapolitan pizza that looked absolutely perfect when delivered to the table. Surprisingly, it seemed a bit too salty at first bite, but the next thing I knew, it was gone. The pizza was very tasty and clearly prepared with quality ingredients. The crust was good, perhaps a bit more crisp than traditional Neapolitan pizza, but that probably due to the coal oven vs. a wood oven. The restaurant itself is kind of dark, especially for a daytime visit and the service was less than friendly, but I won’t let any of that influence this review which is based solely on the pizza itself.

Loved the ambience, décor, food and service. We ordered the eggplant parmigiana as an appetizer and it was delicious. We followed it with the Arugula Pizza and Pasta Bolognese. We topped it off with a bottle of Chardonnay. This place is small, but amazing. By the time we left it was filled with patrons. Highly recommend!!!

We got to try Luzzo’s as part of Scott’s Pizza Tour(East Village). It’s a long narrow restaurant with tables on each side as you walk towards the rear and the huge pizza oven and rest of the kitchen. The margarita pizza was what came with our tour and it was very tasty. A good amount of sauce that was balanced out by big melted chunks of mozzarella cheese. The most unique and flavorful sauce of any we tried on the tour. The pizza oven is enormous and they only currently use half of it. Pizzas can cook in under two minutes. Great option for delicious wood fired pizza in the area!

My friend and I stopped here for the first time. Our waiter Roberto greeted us at the door and he sold us as soon as we stepped in. Aperol spritz as apéritif drink and square pizza for two. Perfect combo! The manager Giovanni was super cool and accommodating as we wanted to move from bar to table and he found us a table right away even if the restaurant was super busy! Also in the end he bought us two shots of limoncello to end dinner in the best way possible. Kudos to Luzzo’s !!! Keep up the good work !!!

Go-to za spot in the hood. Really cute and rustic inside, nice low-key date spot. Great for take-out as well!

Came to Luzzo’s for the 2nd time. Have to say, their pizzas are superb! Had the Salsiccia(Sausage) made with fresh bufala cheese and basil on a thin dough crust. Perfectly cooked! I come back here in a heartbeat!

Got the Pappardelle Speck E Porcini and Arugola pizza. The pasta was pretty good; a bit heavy but that is what cream based pasta is usually like. I’m not really a pizza fanatic but the pizza had a good ratio of crust to meat to cheese. I liked it. The décor here is what makes this place so cool. There is an upside down chair dangling from the ceiling and various art forms garnish the walls. It’s neat.

New York City, the«Big Pizza.» But here’s a little known fact — New York is actually made up of more than one borough, and most of the best pizza places aren’t in Manhattan. So one time when I was being asked on national TV(this story isn’t true) what I thought was the best pizza in Manhattan, I had to pause, sip my water, look directly at the camera(again, not true) and then say it: the answer is Luzzo’s. I actually came here for lunch, which put it at a competitive disadvantage as most of my daily hunger comes at night after I’ve spent the day wrassling sharks and saving infants from traffic and whatnot. At dinner, the addition of justified hunger enhances my meals. At lunch, it’s all on the food, and Luzzo’s delivers.(I’m not really sure if they literally deliver, don’t quote me). We got two pies, per usual. One of us probably even remembers what they were called, but she doesn’t write the reviews for a living, ya know? So we got two pies: one had mushrooms and prosciutto, and the other had sausage and ricotta. That sausage and ricotta pizza holds its own with any other pizza I’ve ever had. The ricotta especially was magical, in the way that only cheese can be(you know exactly what I mean). Man, those were some good pizzas. Anyway I really, really want to come back and relive the memories, and more importantly the pizza. Also we watched Colombia play a World Cup game with some of the Colombian waiters who loved it, which, I don’t know, probably earns bonus points.

I have tried Luzzo’s twice now, once as take-out and the other time sitting down and both times I have enjoyed the pizza but not thoroughly impressed. I still prefer my Grimaldi’s. Take-out is slow on the Sunday noon that I had ordered, but perhaps this was during peak hours. Both times I tried the Bufalo — the second time I added extra basil with pepperoni and for some reason there was so much juice(not oil. what kind of juice was it?) on the pizza which sogged up the bottom layer of the pizza which I was not a fan of. The taste was good however. Interior is interesting with upside down furniture/pots/pans, service is decent, lighting very dim.

In the dark, always crowded, hole in the wall, I entered with very high expectations, but was not thoroughly impressed. We got the mozzarella, basil, and sausage pizza. Let me start off by saying that when it arrived, there was a single measly basil leaf in the center of the pie. ONE. That you can’t even split because it’s in the middle! Don’t put basil in the description of the pie if you’re just going to put one leaf! How disappointing! The pizza itself wasn’t anything special. My friend got the bolognese fettuccine which was decent but too much on the salty side. It completely overpowered any sweetness of the sauce, or quality of the beef. Overall, Luzzos did not live up to its expectations, and I still find myself shaking my head at the memory of the singular basil leaf sitting gingerly in the middle of a pizza pie. How disappointing.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now, and it still remains one of my favorite pizza joints around. I always start out with the Rucola salad. It’s arugula with apples and shaved parmigiano cheese. It’s so delicious and definitely is the best way to prepare for a delicious pizza. I’ve tried a bunch of these pizzas so I’m just going to review the one I had most recent. I was always curious with the square pies so I ordered the bufala square. It was amazing. This might be my new go-to selection. It seems so plain, but it’s honestly perfection. Another all time favorite is their lemoncello dessert. It’s honestly amazing and probably one of the best I’ve ever had. It’s a mix of the lemoncello and layers of cream served in a champagne glass. I crave it all the time even when just having it. Go to Luzzo’s. Get a pie. You’re welcome.
I’m still dreaming and talking about this pizza. It is the best pizza I’ve had in the city so far(a side note I have exactly 1 gazillion places I need to try, I’m not an authority yet) and I can’t remember the last time I was so happy after a meal. We shared the Aglietta, which is tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil and roasted garlic. I mean a lot of roasted garlic. Our server recommended it and holy moly it was amazing. We are coming back for sure.
