Great steak frites place in midtown. Crowded midday, empty at night. Service is on point.

Great deal. The steak was better than expected, although the portion of meat was moderate but enough. The server offered us second helpings, which I assume is their standard procedure, to get a little treat to customers. Great for catching up with a friend or a casual date midweek, which is when we went. Place filled up early. Friendly staff.

Our group of 6 from west coast tried this limited choice simulated French restaurant. Dessert was the only high point. Service= 1, choices= 1, food quality =1, we are surprised at the complimentary comments. Apparently, few customers have enjoyed the truly delicious cuisine of Paris Definitely a one time shot!

The best French restaurant in nyc. They only have one menu which is a French streak, french fries, salad with an amazing dressings. You should also order the house wine, it’s amazing. Ohh I didn’t mention the steak sauce OMG its mind blowing. I would diffenately come here again.

Memories of Paris! Same great food and service. The gravy sauce on that steak is amazing. Will definitely be back!

Service was particularly good. We checked in on Unilocal and received a coupon but didn’t realize it was only applicable on weekdays. Waitress/manager still honored it. We not only stuffed ourselves on fries and steak, we also had amazing profiteroles on the house at the end. Save room for those!

Ok, I came here with a friend for his birthday and partly because of the check in offer. I’m not a huge dessert fan, but saw it and thought… Cool, a nice French dessert on the house. Well, not so fast. It’s only valid on weekends during a certain time. Which eliminates about 90% of the people. So, don’t offer it. My rant being over, let’s get to the food. I’ve been to the Parisian location and loved it. The sauce was decadent and fresh and the fries very… ah French. Here, I thought the sauce was greasy. Granted, I did ask for more and it’s tasty but not of the same quality of Paris. At least to me. Fries were good, maybe could have been fresher… but a good fry. Steak was tender and well cooked. Loved the seconds. Big plus. Service(which for me defines a good night or a mediocre night) was the reason for 3 stars. And an empty restaurant. We might have mentioned 3 or 4 times it was his birthday and not a smile or even a whisper of happy b day. Crickets… That’s just wrong, don’t have to bring a candle… but a quick«have a nice night on YOUR birthday might have helped. One dish, one option and one big attitude. Good luck.

Everyone talks about this secret sauce… it’s definitely secretive. It’s the mystique of it that made me wonder if I really like it or was I just continuously eating it to figure out what i was tasting. The flavor goes like this: as soon as the forkful hits your tongue, your tastebuds are invigorated by a maybe sweet but probably more savory flavor that you can’t put a finger on and by time you begin to chew, that flavor is completely gone and you look across the table at your friend and wonder if they are as perplexed as you are. The next bite is exactly the same. Throughout the course of the meal you are met with monotonous palette experience which does pair well with the Bordeaux. I ordered a bottle just to keep it simple and consistent with the pours because my guest and I both enjoy a good drink. The Bordeaux had a great nose and was a bit on the dryer side as we preferred. The restaurant experience was pleasant. The waitstaff was very friendly and inviting. We went on super bowl Sunday so there wasn’t much of a crowd. One surprising thing(maybe not so surprising if I read up on the place before going) is that they come around and bring you seconds once your plate has gotten low. Let me go back and say, there is only one dining option, the steak frites with their secret sauce drizzled atop the sliced medium or well done steak and the fries gently lapping at the sauce. The steak and fries are pretty solid on their own and the sauce is mysterious. Do try their wines; the Bordeaux is great.

This is a steak frites only restaurant. Anything else you want besides steak and fries, they will not have. For the 30 dollar price tag, not including tax and tip, you have plenty of other options for medium grade steak in the city. Lets just weigh the pros and cons of this place for a sit down steak dinner for two. Pros: — Fancy name, fancy interior. — Steak sauce is excellent. — Fries are good, but aren’t they always — The steak frites are separated into two smaller servings, that somehow makes it feel more. — Free dessert on Unilocal check-in Cons: — Steak is probably pre-made, you cannot order it done to your specification… — … which means its on the more medium side. — Steak without the sauce is sub-par. — Steak comes in chopped pieces so it cools too quickly. — Literally nothing else on the menu. — Crowded. Yea. Thats about it.

Was recommended here for the amazing steak sauce. there was no wait on a Friday night for dinner at 7 ish. we walked right in, salad and bread came shortly. salad was fine — bread was fine — butter would have been nice. steak and fries come next and the ratio of steak to fries on your plate is 1:9. the steak is not enough for a hungry meat eater looking for a good portion. you will only be full at the end because of the fries. the pics are slightly deceiving because my steak slices were not large like some Unilocal photos. there is no ketchup — only mustard. the liver sauce is fine, not amazing but very buttery. we did try desserts — crème brûlée was decent, the profiteroles were warm and cold — yum, the peaches tulip is nothing but peaches with ice cream and whip so that was a bit disappointing and the cheesecake was great.

We were greeted and seated with no wait on a Tuesday at 6pm. Before we looked at the menu, the server asked if we were ready, indeed, we were. The salad, steak and fries were on our minds and soon in our belly’s. Salads came out quick, followed by steaks, which were both in a special mustard-like sauce, cooked medium rare, but on the medium side. The fries were perfectly crispy. The plates seemed small, but have no fear, once they start to see the bottom of the plates, the server replenishes you with more steak and fries! We soaked up the remains of the sauce with the bread that we both boycotted in the beginning because we both were watching our carb intake. Two glasses of wine and crème brûlée for dessert. Perfect for a casual date night price wise and food wise.

This review is little over due. Came to this charming spot earlier last month by accident. Was in neighborhood to see the tree with my husband, and every other place had a wait. Looked nice from outside, and was full. How bad could it be? Plus, never really had French cuisine much before. Boy, were we in for a surprise. We asked to see the menu before we were seated. Hostess explains menu is fixed. It’s just salad, fries and steak. We agreed and sat down. We had no idea that exactly what they serve all year round! We realised that once we started ordering. There was no ketchup for my fries or butter for my bread. And no medium rare for my steak lol. Our waitress, was very sweet and explained that this was a special restaurant, and this is exactly how its done in Paris! Apparently, there is a chain in London, Paris and here in New York. They use special sauce for the steak. Our salad was light with a mustard dressing. Very nice just too light, could have had seconds. The fries were pleasantly fresh and delicious! Thats because it is fresh, and not frozen, they use peanut oil. And the steak! Holy crap! So soft, and just melts in your mouth. Wonderful. We also order small white wine to have with the meal. Was kinda weird not to be able to have choices or anything. I mean, I never been denied ketchup in a restaurant. Still, I like their method. Keep flavors simple, and nothing to disrupt it. And, I forgot to mention you get seconds with your steak without asking. Where can you ever get seconds of steak? Anyway, I was little mad that when u check in you can get a free dessert. They made up some excuse it doesn’t work on the weekends blah, blah. Sucks, but doesn’t matter. We really enjoyed ourselves, came out to $ 65, not too bad considering the small bottle of wine. Would definitely be back agian:)

You come here for 3 reasons: salad, steak, and fries. If you do not like salad, steak, or fries please go elsewhere. There is no menu(okay there’s a dessert/wine menu but that’s it). The waitress comes by, asks what you want to drink, and writes how you want your steak on the table. You then receive a basket of bread(save this for later) followed by a tasty salad covered in some sort of mustard dressing. Next is the steak and fries. The steak was perfectly cooked and the mustard sauce gave it an amazing flavor. The fries were okay, they could have been crispier. Take that bread, dunk it in the magical sauce, and eat it. Halfway through, they’ll refill your plate with more fries and more steak. If you still have room after all this, they have some tasty options for dessert. Prices are good, especially for what you get. The place gets packed around lunchtime so I suggest getting there at noon. Warn your newbie friends that there is no entrée menu.

Had dinner here with friends. It was pretty awesome! $ 30 a head and the food was delicious. The steak will melt in your mouth. I’d never had a mustard based steak sauce like this but it was very good. The place is immaculate. Reminded me of Paris. The staff was French and they were all very very nice. Everyone was on their game. And if that wasn’t enough they come around and refill your plate AGAIN! The wine was good and cheap. And the crime brûlée was the best I’ve ever had. Also the chocolate meringue tower was good too. They serve the meat REALLY rare so if you like medium rare you better order medium. Because rare is Blue. It’s European so you have to ask for the check. They won’t try to run you out of there to turn the table(like my experience at Cowgirl) so enjoy your meal at this place!

Ahh– the disappointment. By no fault of the restaurant but having such a great memory of the place while in France, I think it’s only natural. When we walked in, it was busy but still just early enough to get seated right away. Knowing we had only options for wine we were so excited to relive our Parisian memory only to be happy that the flavored are still similar but definitely a little underwhelmed. They just didn’t have the same crispness of the fries and our food felt lukewarm– almost like we were having someone else’s half of steak instead of one that came right out of the kitchen. In fact, we didn’t want to be even more disappointed so we skipped dessert. Perhaps if we came in with less expectations it would have been more a better dining experience but I do commend the friendliness of the staff and a good attempt to recreate le Relais l’Entrecôte de Paris!

It was a pleasure returning to Relais de Venise. Though we’ve been at the midtown eatery a few times in the past year, we needed a reliable place at short notice on Saturday night. We just made it into this crowded restaurant and we immediately knew we made the right choice. While there’s no formal menu of choice at Relais, the focus is on steak. The«formula» is simple; a salad with a mustard vinaigrette dressing, sliced steak served with a special sauce, and frites. The food was expectedly good and we accompanied our meal with a good but reasonably priced French house wine. Service was smooth too and I’m happy to say that we recognized our server. Let me just add that staff at Relais does not seem to suffer the turnover as do may restaurants, so there is a consistency with staff. For dessert we shared a enjoyable profiterole and coffee. Overall the Relais setting was bright, convivial and welcoming despite being full. I’m glad we returned.

I am between 3 – 4 s on this one. I originally visited the London location and really enjoyed my meal. The concept is so simple. There is one set menu– a simple salad with walnuts in a mustard dressing. The second course is steak frites smothered in a buttery sauce that is quite tasty. Even dessert, la profiterole au chocolat, was a simple pastry chocolatey delight. Now to NY– I was excited to re-create my UK experience in my own hood and although it was still good, it wasn’t the same. Maybe it was the quality of the steak itself, or a runnier sauce(that still tasted yummy). I’ve heard the Paris location is outstanding as well so if you are looking to relive your meal from another location, be weary. Still, there is something about the simplicity of the restaurant that I do enjoy, and if I didn’t have London’s to compare it to, my review would be 4 s. If you are craving some steak frites, it’s worth giving it a try.

I’ve been to the one in Paris a few times, so here’s the deal: is this location the same? No. But is it pretty close? Absolutely. The idea and set up are the same– tables close together, no menu, they just ask how you want your steak cooked. They still bring you the salad with the mustard dressing, and the steak and fries in two portions. The steak sauce was a little more runny than the Relais in Paris, but still comparable. I found the food to still taste delicious, and if I lived in New York and had a craving for some French steak frites, I’d still come here. Prices are about the same too, and service is the same.

Our team decided to pay here a visit on a market-quiet day. Good and bad about this place was that you don’t have much choices(unless vegetarian for whom you have a veggie option). You opted for the set(salad+steak/French fries) and that was it. You also don’t have the medium rare choice, so either go with medium or settle yourself with rare. Too much dressing for the salad — that was my only complain. They served the meat in a much smaller plate compared with other places, made me feel that I was not eating too much… Kindly note that the Unilocal check-in offer was only valid from Sat to Sun. They took as many cards as you want.

An interesting place to pop in for a quick business lunch, the menu was one item! Steak and fries, that was it, no negotiation! Very different! That said, it was very good, steak was well prepared with what tasted like an a poivre! Service was ok, just kind of matter of fact, one item on the menu, do you want it or not! So if you ate looking for a nice steak a poivre and fries for lunch, this is your place!!!

If a restaurant only serves one dish on the menu, they better get it more than just right. It better be 100% perfect. And perfect it was. I’m hooked, absolutely obsessed. From the moment that piece of heavenly, sauce-covered meat touched my lips, game over. A perfectly cooked steak with just-the-right-amount-of-crispy fries? I’m the most prejudice when it comes to fries but damn, those fries were mm mmmm good. It’s almost too good to be true. Beware of the profiteroles. They’re dangerously good. You’ve been warned! **service is on the slower side

This place offers only one prix fixe meal for $ 28.75. Your meal will consist of bread, salad, and steak frites. So, don’t expect anything else! House Salad: Deep green lettuce drizzled with mustard-based dressing and walnuts. Steak Frites: Only 3 options(rare, medium, or well-done). If you order medium, you will receive smooth, perfectly pink slices of steak that melt in your mouth. The«secret sauce» gives the steak a distinct flavor. The servers distribute half of the steak frites first, and the rest after you have completed your first serving. This is to ensure that your food stays warm. This place is well known for their first location in Paris, where they get long lines on a daily basis. So, we are lucky to have one here in New York without the crazy long lines!

I’m a huge fan of the idea that if you can do one thing REALLY well, why do anything else? That’s the idea at Le Relais De Venise and I think they do it really, really well. They seat you quickly, no small talk, ask you what you want to drink(they won’t pour the wine for you, but they will at least open it), find out how you want your steak(and write it on the table), and they are off only to be seen again when they are putting your salad, bread and then first helping of steak frites on the table. Most people think this type of service is either very French or very rude but I appreciate the efficiency of this place. I’ve never felt rushed out. I’ve sat there and finished my wine and chatted with friends, and they never forced the check on me. Yes, you will have to flag them down to GET the check but I find the whole approach to just be more European than New Yorkers are used to. I was first introduced to this place at the London location and this type of service is quite customary there as well. The steak is always cooked consistently(when you order rare, you will actually get it rare). The house wine is actually quite good AND cheap. The steak frites are always crispy. And that bernaise… ohhhhh… that bernaise! I’m still trying to perfect a copy cat recipe. Le Relais De Venise has a good, no-nonsense, no frills, no extras approach to dining. They can afford to do it because their one dish is excellent. I will go back again and again, to both the New York and London locations. It never disappoints!
