CHANGEOFBUSINESS: The original La Cabana that was there up until last year, moved AND changed name. It is now called Lindo Michoacan, at 420 E 120th St. They don’t have a listing on Unilocal and I don’t know how they can obtain one in order to get the traffic and stars they deserve! The Cabana that is still at the corner of 117th and 1st is a totally different restaurant; different management, different menu, different prices :) They just took the name.

Love this Mexican food spot. They moved to 120th street btw 1st and Pleasant Ave. I always order the quesadilla or the chicken Torta which both are amazing. I would really eat here everyday if I could. Service is always great and more importantly the food is always consistently good! One of my Favorite restaurant ever!

Fabulous place. Fresh and delicious food, lovely staff, open late, and an overall wonderful experience. Be forewarned though: you MUST speak spanish. I had the quesadilla con camarones(shrimp quesadilla) and it came with some salad greens, a slice each of tomato and avocado, a small scoop of guac, and a wedge of lime. Unlike the typical local taqueria mode, this was not wolfed down out of a styrofoam takeaway container but actually served to me on a real plate at an actual table with silverware. This meant waiting a few minutes at the table for the food to come out. They also brought some fresh salsa condiments to the table. Yet it was so fresh and delicious and they were so kind that I felt I got more than I deserved. So go, if you speak spanish. Or get your Mexican friend to take you. You will be glad. Tip well; they deserve it.

As a person who suffers from chronic Mexicanophilia, I heartily recommend this restaurant. It serves pura comida casera. It doesn’t serve any of that high falutin’ Nueva Comida Mexicana, you know the kind, sopes topped with tequila flavored pepitas sprinkled over a ground chapulin based mole. Don’t get me wrong, that stuff has its place, but when you want food like abuela used to make, go to La Cabana. Almost all of the menu items come with a complete condiments tray brought to the table. The huevos rancheros, the enchiladas verdes, and the chilaquiles are excellent.

Visited the East River Mall and on the way home decided to stop by here. Didn’t even bother to check Unilocal. This is the real deal. From the moment you come into the restaurant to the moment you leave its 100% authentic. I only tried the tacos since that’s what we were craving though 5⁄5. I can’t say much for the rest of the menu. It was decent busy so my order didn’t really take so long(approximately 30−40minutes). Might be back, it’s a 50⁄50 chance.

FOOD: They did not have either fish filet or pork leg dish I wanted. so I ordered Pastor sausage Tacos($ 2.50 each) and Quesadillas with beef($ 8). I was pleasantly surprised. 4 different kinds of Salsa, cilantro, onions, limes came in condiment tray(please refer to the pics) and really, this is the first time I ever ordered Quesadillas(I have had them before but never ordered for myself) and was the best I ever had. Beef was fried and seasoned just right, with the milky Chihuahua cheese and fresh salsa and guacamole on the side. Just amazing. Pastor Sausage Tacos was great also. Never had Pastor sausage before. It was salty, crispy, just right with the soft tortilla and all the condiments served in the tray. DRINKS: Didn’t order anything but they do make fruit smoothies that looked delicious. SERVICE: I wish I spoke Spanish. when i was told they don’t have the pork leg, she was trying to get me to order regular pork carnitas. I told her I can have that anywhere and wanted to try something i never tried but I don’t think she understood me. DECOR: Just right. Soccer game in Spanish, very blue collar clientele, scorching heat from the street, no AC on in the restaurant, I can’t ask for more. PRICE: Pastor sausage Tacos($ 2.50 each) and Quesadillas with beef($ 8). I can’t believe I got full under $ 11! and I saw they even accept JCB(Japan Credit Bureau) credit card! Japanese tourists in East Harlem, do NOT miss this place!

So, to be honest I have been here more times than i can count and the only thing I’ve ever ordered were the tacos. SOOOGOOOD! Chicken or steak tacos w/everything are some of the best in the city IMO. If you get it to go it comes w/cilantro, onions, red and green sauce, and you pay extra for the other toppings. If you dine in, they bring you a tray of toppings galore(see pictures, lol). My only gripe is that depending on who’s working, there is either a tax, or no tax and when there is tax it isn’t consistent w/what the previous person said, etc. Also, they barely understand English which you can just chalk up to this being an authentic Mexican spot. Still it would be nice not to have to repeat my order.

We ordered two sandwiches and the delivery man only brought one. When I explained the discrepancy to the deliveryman, he called the restaurant. Before I finished explaining the situation, they hung up on me. I don’t care how good their food is. This is New York. There are many great restaurants. Most of them try hard to make their customers happy.

Having grown up on the west coast and living in southern California for a while, I have been searching for good Mexican food in NYC for a while. Not Rose Mexicana type frilly mexican food– REALMEXICANFOOD. So, when my friend brought me here, I could immediately tell it was the real deal. Thank goodness she speaks spanish, otherwise I’m not sure I would have been understood on my rusty, broken spanglish. The tacos, tortas, rice and beans are all amazing. The sauces and salsas are delicious. The guar is perfection and chips are homemade. It’s everything I wanted from a hole in the wall Mexican place and more. Viva la Spanish Harlem!
