I also got a Groupon but had a really good experience. Renata was a very professional and lovely woman who simply changed my look for the better. It is a very expensive salon normally, and I guess that some people might not have realized that; I must say that I personally would not pay hundreds of dollars for the service I received (they said $ 600), if only because I don’t have that kind of money. But what I did get was worth it in spades. I thought Renata was great. I look really good now, and, as the really kind assistant said, «like a different person» and for the better. I wish I understood their pricing better, and got a coupon for a $ 150 cut and color, which is reasonable for Renata. I just hope that I can make the dough to afford it in eight weeks. But if you can, believe me, it is really worth it. The best! Danica.

Today I used my groupon for a double process with Renata. After reading the reviews, I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised with the results. The staff was pleasant and in no way treated me like a second class citizen because of the groupon. I was offered an expresso which would rival an upscale coffee shop. I left
it up to Renata to do what she thought was best for my hair. I walked out with a great cut and color. The whole experience was very pleasant and I walked out looking much better than when I arrived.

One of my best haircuts in NY thus far. They know how to style bangs and the salon is extremely clean and comfortable.

What a HUGE disappointment with the way I was treated when I called to make an appointment — the person I spoke to was very rude — I am sure since it was a Groupon — proceeded to tell me they only do highlights in the morning — however nowhere was that indicated.
I dont want to go to a place that signs on for something and then treats potential clients like they are a bother — I agree with the other Groupon customer — this place doesnt even rate a star.

I have to say, I don’t normally write reviews. In fact, this is my first. I, too, had a groupon for La Boit A Coupe. It was a great one for a cut, color and blow dry. I did have to book a few weeks in advance, but that was understandable. On the phone to make my appointment, the woman was perfectly nice. The night before my appointment I happened to go on Unilocal and look up the salon to get its address, and I decided to look at the reviews. I was almost scared off from the two nasty reviews from Amanda and Whitney. I cannot comment on their experience, but mine was so much the opposite that I HAD to post a review for those of you who might be going for the first time, like I did. The salon is in an intimate setting … there are only four chairs but at the end of the day I found this to be really comfortable. I was treated just like any other client and I’ve never had such an easy time conversing and getting to know my stylist while sipping fresh tea she made me. I was torn between adding some highlights to go blonde or freshening up my brown for the summer. Renata knew EXACTLY what color she was going to use, and we opted for a single process color for the day. For the cut I had my hair almost mid –way down my back and wanted to cut it above my shoulders for the summer. A huge change! She didn’t ask me a lot of questions about my styling habits but I completely trusted her and told her just something fresh and she worked her magic. I’m always looking for a stylist that will give me her opinion on what will look best when I always have so many ideas in my head. Not only did I feel comfortable completely putting myself in her hands, she did a cut that I LOVE! At a lot of salons now-​a-​days they style your hair with a flatiron et al and I always hate that because it’s never what I do at home so it will never look the same. How refreshing to have a stylist work with a fresh cut, a blow dryer and minimal styling product… I can comfortably do my own hair after I wash it as well.
I’m writing this review because I almost got scared off from my appointment… I was getting some big changes to my hair and you don’t want to trust just anyone with that. It’s a wonderful salon, the staff made me feel so welcome, and I really feel like I got to know Renata, and I feel better about my hair than I have in awhile. I was never treated like a second class customer because of my groupon… and in fact, I’ll be going back to this salon for all of my hair appointments in the city.

I recently purchased a groupon for this salon for a cut, color, deep conditioning treatment and a style. I have medium/​dark brown hair and am looking to go lighter. When they told me that wasn’t possible without countless highlights I said ok well what can we do then. She suggested a chocolate brown with a caramel highlight. Given that I have had dark hair my whole life I was comfortable with chocolate. First off, she only put the highlights in my bangs and then one streak down each side of my face. Second, my hair did not change color whatsoever, it is still a mousy brown. While she was dying my hair, she managed to cover my whole forehead in dye (I’m cleaner when I do my own hair). When they washed the dye out, the water was too hot and the too cold, then they not only didn’t give me a deep conditioning treatment but didn’t use conditioner at all! When she went to cut my hair, at no point did she ask where I parted my hair, and didn’t even put my hair in a straight middle part to cut it! Thank god I only asked for a trim and not an actual style because im not sure she could have done more than a trim. Last but not least they didn’t get all the dye off my skin and so now my face is stained. I’m sure they do a great job on men’s hair and women’s short pixie cuts, but when it comes to long hair like mine, they absolutely butchered it. I will never go back and am now going to spend another $ 150 just to fix it.

I bought a groupon for a cut and color. which was fairly mediocre. and then once done, they asked me to pay another $ 20 for taxes in CASH only… This was not mentioned in the groupon, and why did it have to be CASH only. generally cash only means they are skimming or cheating and in this case, both the government and the consumer. Stay away…

PEOPLE this is the place! I’ve been coming to this salon for 10 years and Renata is amazing. very professional. Explains every step of the way before she starts. The results is always magical. With the touch of highlights or color that adds a nice edge to the finishing touch. And blow drying wowww she is really in charge. She is a HAIR QUEEN!

Renata is an amazing artist! I came in with several months growth because I just wanted her to have a lot to work with. I gave her very little direction because i wanted to see where her talent would take me and I was thrilled.
I came in looking like an overblown sheepdog and came out looking chic and upscale. Whenever I fly in to the city, I make sure to see Renata!
The best part was that she never made me feel like I ever looked like the sheepdog. She was kind and professional throughout.

Every woman I brought there to get a haircut was more than satisfied by the expert hands of Renata !

I have been going to La Boîte A Coupe for over 20 years. Laurent is just that good. He has been cutting my father’s hair and my hair for as long as I can remember. He’s a great guy, great to talk to and understand hair like no other barber I have ever seen.
At $ 100 a hair cut for men, it’s not the cheapest of places to go but it is one of the best.

Every once in a while you find a barber who is so good that you find yourself asking, «What am I going to do when this dude dies?»
Laurent is that good. Very friendly and highly intuitive, he will never ask, «do you want a #2 or #3?»
Everything is done by hand, with scissors and skill. At $ 100, plus tip, you’re looking at $ 130 all-​in. But, the perfect grow-​back that his cuts engender will have you set for at least a month.

I had a great experience here. It’s not cheap ($ 100 for a cut). But, you just might come across a big media player or someone you’d want to exchange business cards with — afterall, Laurent is THE MAN and he’s been known for introducing his high-​end clients to each other (there’s only two chairs in the joint). He makes his own hair product as well. For those that have thick hair like me, a MUST buy.
