Came here to write a review only to find that this place is closed now? WHAT??? Been here at least 3 times and each time, I leave full and satisfied. The ambience was very calm and intimate. Great for a first date. Food was always good and flavorful. Sad to see this place go.

Devastated to hear this place is closed because the one time I’ve been here, I experienced the heaven that is known as chipotle spice infused cornbread. Knowing I will never taste that tangy yet savory soft crumbly cornbread in my mouth is a blow to my soul. I feel it that deeply. Someone please scavenge the recipe for their chipotle cornbread and open up a restaurant STAT. I’ll be your loyal patron for eternity.

Sad to say, Kipsey’s has closed for good. Blame it on the scaffolding that has basically hidden their restaurant for 3 years. Very sad to see. I feel badly for restaurants and stores that are victims to scaffolding and construction, ie the Second Avenue Subway mess in the Upper East.

I went here for the first time last night. I’m glad that I enjoyed it! Living so close I wanted it to be good. I ordered the wedge salad and our group shared the deviled eggs, which very very good, but a small portion for the money. For dinner I had the half roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese? They have a nice selection of sides(you get two) with the dinners. I enjoyed everything. My wife told me the burger with gruyère and onions and the mac & cheese was very good. The prices seemed reasonable overall. The place is nice and the service was very good. I will definitely go back. This place is now closed. Another one bites the dust. Sorry it couldn’t have been a success. Good luck in future endeavors.

Went to this place quite a few times in the last year. not the best brunch place I’ve been to. Had the hamburger the first time I went. fries were ehh and the burger wasn’t cooked very well. The next time and every time after that, I’ve ordered the short rib hash. It’s pretty greasy but it was good with a big portion. On the most recent visit, though, I was very disappointed by the food. The short rib hash wasn’t that great. even the eggs weren’t good. :/ One great thing about this place: amazing cornbread! I would love it if I could’ve just had their cornbread lol. I found out though that they’re CLOSINGSOON.

Somewhat shady!!! went here 2 weeks ago with my boyfriend I ordered a Kipsey Burger and he ordered a Pull Pork Sandwich. The bunch menu didnt have the price for anything except for the prefix. When the bill came I forgot how much was the kipsey burger but i remember the pulled pork sandwich was 7 dollars(original 11 dollars, but 4 dollars off because we didnt have alcohol). Then this week I went alone and asked for a pull pork sandwich(same day, same hour so its not a special or anything) and they charged me 14 dollars… and said the original was 18(im assuming mistaken it for for prefix?). At first I thought the mistake must have been made last time but when I looked on the website menu it stated that the pull pork was 11… Never again…

Had dinner at Kipsey’s again tonight. They have a ribs special that was amazing. Maybe the best ribs I’ve ever ate. They also have a new menu item, the House Smoked Pork which was really good. What a friendly place!

This was the worst Bbq I ever had. Ordered with my family. We had the pork, ribs, meatloaf, and short rib. Bbq baked beans we’re disgusting. Had like a licorice flavored sauce. Are you kidding me? Pretty much inedible. Seamless said«sweet potato» so we ordered two orders of sweet potato, what we got was soggy greasy sweet potato French fries with no flavor. All the meats lacked flavor or any type of rub /sauce. Meatloaf was just like a pile of grease/fat and some meat. I asked for extra sauce on the side and they give me one sauce packet with 4 orders of food… Sucks big time because bill was $ 100. Has the business owner ever tasted the food?

Great neighborhood restaurant in Murray Hill. The Schnitzel is very good, and big portions. The staff are all friendly as well, and they have a bar with some tv’s which is nice if you feel like watching. Will be returning. Also good for a weekend brunch and dinner.

Excellent! Great atmosphere, relaxed music, killer service! Food was fantastic! Big portions, sides were excellent, and an entrée + salad + app = 12 bucks!!! I’m coming back again and again, and you should too!

I thought I wrote a review before? Oh, well. We used to be huge fans of this restaurant when they opened. The chicken was really good and the brunch was solid. Then, out of nowhere, the food and service took a nosedive. We got chicken that was so dry it was inedible followed by a completely undercooked chicken(translucent on the inside=badness). They only took 10% off for the uncooked chicken and the waiter/manager seemed irritated that we were upset about it. These episodes are over multiple visits(take-out and eat in). Sadly, won’t be going back.

Huh! This bar/restaurant is absolutely not just for drinking, but boasts a very solid, impressive and delicious food menu. Kipsey’s is home to a very reasonable lunch special serving very satisfying meals. Besides the handsome website, they deserve some appreciation for the excellent clean and expansive dining area. Always comfortable and never too packed at lunch time, this is a great spot to hit up. I ordered the homemade meatloaf special, which was a great decision. If you’re hungry, this entrée(with choice of side) should satisfy you enough. The meatloaf was moist, juicy, and full of home-y herbal flavors. It tasted like the classic beef/pork/veal combo of meat instead of the all beef that a few places do. The one aspect I was surprised by was the fact the slice was sitting in a substantial pool of thin, soup-y gravy. It was excessive and unnecessary, especially since the meatloaf was juicy by itself, but forgivable based on how good it was. I guess they really wanted to make sure it wasn’t dry, but they needn’t worry. For the side, I picked up the mac and cheese. Standard and well done, but nothing outstanding beyond that. That’s totally fine, though, because if you’re craving mac and cheese, this one should hit the spot. The entrée lunch special comes with a soft drink which includes iced tea; for $ 9, there’s is absolutely no arguing the value of this deal. I do wish the service was a little bit more attentive and faster, but a 15 minute wait time after a food order is not the worst. If you find yourself in Kips Bay and are hungry, make a point of visiting Kipsey’s, it’s worth the trip.

I am digging this place! I know first glance Kipseys don’t seem like anything special, but what separates this joint from other diners and brunch places is them dishes no one else gots. Don’t get generic stuff when you come here try the specials. Short rib hash nation doe! I fell in love with this dish. Shredded short ribs with some potatoes covered with an egg on top. Amazing! Talk about a hearty breakfast! One warning is that their omelettes, although good, are very buttery! So if you not in to that stay away. The service was extremely nice unlike what I’ve been reading in other reviews. There is plenty of seating here and even a bar section. Kinda got a southern twist about this place

Hi Melissa, My girlfriend and I used to come all the time, but stopped, and I am sorry to say we would be hard pressed to come back. Why you ask? Let’s see, there was that time when I came in, and asked if it was possible to have a Cesar chicken salad chopped up with the dressing mixed in, and I wanted it to go. When I got home, there was bones in the salad, it was not mixed or chopped. When you first open up I really wanted to root for you, but bad service, and a stagnant Manu have kept us away, and I know I we are not the only ones. I hope you find your way.

Sitting here on a Friday night only because I needed a restaurant near where my car parked because of the meter. Upon entering we asked if we could sit anywhere and was told yes. We were received with a lot of stares and wondered was this an anti black establishment. We stayed hesitantly. We waited ten minutes for a menu and received one only after we got up. Food we ordered although looked great was very bland. Definitely won’t be back.

3.5 Stars My friends and I made a reservation for 20 people so they definitely have the room to accommodate large groups. The waitress was friendly and personable. The food was good and came in large quantities for decent prices. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how big the portions were for the entrée as well as the sides. Definitely had enough food there to get me through three meals. I tried their Schnitzel with mac and cheese on the side. The schnitzel was good. Fried right and moist. The lemon aioli went perfectly with it. The mac and cheese was good as well. The right ratio of pasta and cheese. Wish it had a little more bread crumbs on top too to balance out the softness. Overall, you can get pretty solid American food at Kipsey’s. Not amazing, but good.

Went on a Sunday around 12 and it was pretty quiet. Nice, clean space but wasn’t impressed with the service or food. There was only one waitress so she obviously couldn’t dedicate a lot of time to each table but we had to remind her to bring our drinks after she served our food. Then after ordering tea she says oh we don’t have that. I was half way through my meal so I just stuck with water. I ordered the french toast which came drenched in the carmelized syrup. I recommend asking for it on the side. I probably won’t return or if I do, order something else.

I ordered the Schnitzel and Mac & cheese for lunch(the lunch special is fairly priced!). The set up and décor of the place is pleasant as well. Unfortunately, the mac & cheese seemed like it was meant for someone with obese taste-buds. I could barely see the macaroni as it was essentially SUBMERGED in cheese. The schnitzel was good, but that’s kind of difficult to screw up especially when their dinner menu is essentially their lunch at a higher price.

This place is brilliant. The brunch was amazingly rich and fulfilling after a night out. We had the cured salmon to share and I had the brisket sandwich. I would definitely come back here again to try the other items. The food is very heavy so you should come in with an appetite! The cups are very interesting as well, so if you order the coffee they give you a thermos. Very homey and comforting food and atmosphere.

One fine Sunday morning, I decided that I wanted to go to Penelope. However, upon arriving there and being informed that not only was there a two and a half hour wait, but that they were also not taking any more names, I meandered around quite a bit til I found Kipsey’s! Entrenched deep in Kip’s Bay, I would have missed this had I not been actively Unilocaling for brunch spots where I was. It’s a very cute local place that had no wait, friendly wait staff, and very prompt service. The layout is a little odd in that it’s sometimes difficult to maneuver around because of how the place is partitioned. That aside, every brunch entrée comes with a little corn muffin and some orange juice + if you order an egg entrée they will give you a roasted potato side or a salad! I ordered an eggs benedict for which they were kind enough to accommodate my vegetarianness and substitute the bacon/salmon with other veggies. My one complaint was that I thought that I would get an english muffin with my eggs benedict, but I did not, so that was kind of weird. I’ve also had better eggs benedict — it seemed like some flavor was missing. BUT, the roasted potatoes. Let’s stop here. They. Were. AMAZING. Something about how they cooked them reminded me of the Indian potato curry that my mom always makes, and I demolished that. I would go back just for those. Plus, eating that with egg yolk was so delicious! Also, my friend got the frittata and loved it! Would I come back? If I was in that area, sure, I would!

Oh, Kipsey’s. Our visit started out so promising. Five for dinner, seated at a big table near the front with a heater, since there was a draft from the front door. The host was nice, and we had some appetisers and drinks to wait for one member of our party who was late. We ordered dinners, and settled in for the wait. Once the food came… one order was wrong, some sides were missing, and the wait staff got snippy. Two people were missing cole slaw, and they both happened to say it at the same time. The waiter said«We can’t all speak at once,» and I thought that was kind of rude, ESPECIALLY because they both said«COLESLAW» at the same time — hardly talking over each other. The issue was rectified soon enough, but the rest of the meal wasn’t as nice as it had been, as the waiter’s attitude put a damper on the night. The food… was good. I had the schnitzel, a huge, plate-sized piece of chicken plus the cauliflower and mashed potato sides. Others had the salmon, which they raved about, and the meatloaf. We shared the apple crumble for dessert, which was great. I might be back to try it again. It was a quiet night, so the waiter was hardly rushed. I hope that he reads this and makes sure to check his attitude next time.

Décor: 3⁄5 –Not much air circulation, the front door was left open and the ambiance was humid –The tables seem to be repainted and were slightly sticky to glassware –Fairly spacious, the booth seats are comfy Service: 4.5÷5 –extremely friendly and attentive service, could it be the scrubs? Food: 4⁄5 –The Meatloaf was so much better than my pulled pork sandwich. Flavor was just right, not bland or salty. Definitely go for this meat lovers! –Pulled pork sandwich wasn’t as good as the raves had hyped it to be. The pork slices were fatty and didn’t have much flavor. –The mac n cheese side was served hot and extremely cheesy though it had a more mild cheesy taste
