Very small and quaint restaurant, perfect for a date night. The restaurant sells smaller plates(tapas), if you order 3 – 5 different plates, you’ll be plenty full. I am not a sommelier, but if you are wine enthusiast you will be pleasantly surprised. Our waiter(LJ) was very attentive, answered our questions and gave a lot of backstory when it came to selecting a bottle, describing the tastes and even our food choices. Don’t eat here just to eat, take your time and focus on the food, you don’t want to miss something. Great first experience! Good: –Meatballs,(5 to an order) a must, definitely gave my grandmother’s meatballs a run for their money –Short Rib, another must, the radish flavor comes out later into the dish, see for yourself. –Pork Belly, different but delicious. –Mushroom Tacos(2 to an order), tasty. –Baked Brie,(saved for last like a dessert) don’t eat too much bread beforehand in order to enjoy this. –Wine: Bottle of Mosse Chenin Blanc 2014, not dry to me, but sweet enough to enjoy with everything we ate. –Food came out quickly, not all together but as we were finishing with something, another plate came out for us, did not wait long for food Bad: –It adds to the allure/intimacy, but it was tight in the restaurant. If spacing is your thing, this may not be for you.

A horrible experience. The server’s assistant was disgustingly rude. She literally snarled her nose at us every time she walked by. We ordered THREE bottles of wine — THREE. Before you turn your nose up at us, look at the prices on the menu and realize that you’re going to make a bigger tip from our table than you would flipping it two or three times. Well, you would have made more money –but after a conversation with my guests, we decided that 10% was more than enough — I wanted to leave a meaningful $ 0. Your attitude cost you a lot of money. The server knocked over a glass of wine, and shattered the glass. She NEVER apologized — and worse of all — never offered to replace the entire glass from a bottle that she spilled. INFACT, she made us feel as if WE had done something wrong. My pants were RUINED! She never apologized. In a real restaurant, the table would have been cleared immediately, the wine would have been replaced, the TINY portion of food would have been replaced, and we would have received an apology. Instead — I must replace my pants, I had to ASK for the replacement wine — and was thrown attitude for doing so, I picked at the short rib that had spilled wine on it and not to mention a piece of glass we discovered —– etc, etc, etc. One of the worse experiences in Midtown West. Rethink your staff. AVOID.

Kilo, from the outside, looks cute and so very«New York City,» in its quaint, overpacked, studio-spacing veneer, but the food was utterly disappointing. Yuck. I ordered the shrimp tacos and my shrimps were over-salted and came dressed with under-seasoned coleslaw. I kept looking for a slice of lime to cut through my taco, but no lime or lemon slice accompanied my dish. A big, fail, no no! My friend ordered the grilled octopus and it was over-charred and the garbanzo beans it came with, didn’t carry that umami flavor, but instead they lacked in flavor and texture. However, the bartender was really friendly and I enjoyed my glass of Syrah. But, the minute we half-way finished our meal, we looked at each other and said, «Yeah, let’s go.»

You know, I wanted to rate this place so much higher but the service was so bad that I can only allow myself to give it three. When our waiter WAS there he was fantastic, excellent at educating me and my friend on wine and pairings and figuring out what we wanted/liked. However, we didn’t see much of him. As a matter of fact, from the very start we weren’t given much attention. When we walked in for our 9:30 reservation everyone seemed to be running around and took little notice of us. We ended up chatting by the bar for 15 — 20 minutes until we were finally seated. I think my friend was ignored about 6 times that he tried to ask the waiter for a drink. Once, we got a hold of the waitress and let her know we were trying to order from our server, to which she replied«Oh, he’s right there». Which was insulting at worst and useless at best since Kilo is about the size of a very wealthy person’s walk-in closet. I’ll say, service aside, that the wine was great, the small tables and candlelight were very nice, and the food was pretty tasty. Their brussels sprouts with yam purée were excellent(crispy but not super dry) as was the octopus(interesting pairing with chickpeas and some green cream sauce that ended up working out well together). I could have hung out with our waiter all night and listened to him talk about wine, just wish he gave me the time of day.

This place has a great spread of vegetarian options, and I absolutely love their shiitake mushroom tacos. I have been here twice, and both times it was one of my orders, and it never gets old! I tried the brie cheese with walnuts and maple syrup the last time, which was surprisingly yummy with bread(they gave us extra bread to finish it off), though a bit too sweet for my taste, and felt a bit too rich. The goat cheese crostini hurt my mouth from the stiffness of the crunchy bread and the tartness of the cheese, and while it tasted great, it was really a predictable taste for that kind of item. I would give this place 4 starts, but I give it 3 stars because the tapas are each either too light, too heavy, or too small. Something about the portion sizes of each is a bit off, and the overall price comes out to be quite unsatisfying. The items themselves are unique in their flavors, however, which makes this a place that I will probably return to at least once more in the future.

As far as tapa’s restaurants go in upper Hell’s Kitchen, not bad. My girlfriend and I had good pork belly and duck hearts(which apparently are not easy to find in the city), and they were both good. I was pleased with the quality and ambiance. However, I wouldn’t go out of my way again to go here. There are much better tapa’s restaurants in this city, and great meals can be had elsewhere(a la Traif, my favorite).

Came here for drinks when my gal pal wanted to meet up — she suggested it. What a great place! It’s small, but not too small. The bartenders will open a bottle of wine if you tell them what you are looking for and it’s not already listed as by-the-glass. Tried the food — it was very good. I had the crositini with goat cheese and roasted peppers — it was like crack — I had to have more! So good. Also had the chicken tacos — it had a fresh, nice flavor, but didn’t blow me away. Maybe I was already so stuffed from eating two crostini, that it affected my appetite — besides, I wanted to eat the last crostini — it was THAT good. My friend got the padron peppers and mushroom tacos. She really enjoyed them. We sat at the bar and it was great that no one was rushing us out at all — and the tables were also sitting leisurely enjoying their wine and food for a long period of time. Probably not for a big group — great for a date or meetup with 3 max people.

My boyfriend and I came for dinner before a concert at Radio City. It’s a really cute wine bar and although the staff doesn’t look it, they are super knowledgable about wine. We had two great glasses of white, both chosen by our server. And the food was great too. And really fast! We could have been in and out in 30 minutes. We had the cumin goat cheese crostini with red peppers and pumpkin seeds, the hamachi tartare, the chicken tacos with tzatziki and mint, and the sweet and sour pork belly. We loved everything but we had our favorites. Mine was the hamachi and his was the pork belly. The pork belly comes with this weird white sauce which I didn’t love but he did! The hamachi is served with bread and is a little hard to eat but so darn good.

Went in for a late night bite on a Saturday. Had a really nice glass of cabernet sauvignon which made me feel like their wine list is probably quite good. The food was really very tasty — fresh and interesting. The atmosphere was lovely and cosy with a good level of bustle as well, I left around 11pm and there were clearly a few groups that had just stayed to have a few drinks at the bar — which I’ll do next time!

It was ok. Nothing all that special. Service was good– our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was fine, just not mind blowing. The place itself is cute. Pretty small but adorable. If I’m in the area again I might stop in, but I won’t be rushing back.

Led very astray by the good Unilocal ratings, my friend and I gave this place a try. We got the mushroom tacos, asparagus, sliders, and quinoa. The asparagus and mushroom tacos were somewhat edible. The quinoa had absolutely no flavor to it whatsoever. The sliders were completely subpar. The portions are small, the price is way too high, and the food is uninspired and plain not good. Our waitress visibly judged us for asking for Coke – which they did not have because«we serve wine…» I’m angry about paying this ridiculously high bill, honestly. Take your hard earned money elsewhere.

My favorite wine bar in Hell’s kitchen! Solid wine selection and, frankly, the best small plates among comparable wine bars’ in the area. Kilo’s food has never disappointed me, and they offer seasonal menu too. I often visit this place to catch up with friends over a glass of wine with small bites. It’s easy to make a reservation in advance if you are planning for weekday dinner. Here is a list of must-have plates: — Crostini with goat cheese: Hands down… really soft, creamy, flavorful goat chesse with crispy crostini. Roasted peppers and pumpkin seeds are good addition to goat cheese. — Baked brie: Another great appetizer that goes well with rich white wine or fruity red wine, in my opinion. Maple syrup served aside is such great supplement to the baked cheese. — Duck salad: This seasonal dish is recently added back to their menu. Don’t miss it! I’d love to come back to Kilo whenever I have a chance. It’s not spacious, so make sure to make a reservation in advance to be safe.

Ok my review is a bit late. Came here for Valentine’s day dinner and no wonder we had to make reservations a month in advance! We ordered the hamachi tartare(love the crispy seaweed it’s served on, so many flavors in one bite), beets with miso sauce(refreshing), mushroom tacos(tasted smokey and charred, a little greasy but not bad), quinoa risotto(tasted like delicious warm comforting mac and cheese) and the pork belly(a little too heavy for me). Service was great and attentive but since the place was small, I felt a little rushed to finish my meal and leave. Still a great place and would come back.

I can’t believe I’ve been living right by Kilo and didn’t go until just recently! I went on a Wednesday evening after work with some coworkers, and when we walked in we quickly realized that the place wasn’t open, but the bartender was so nice and accommodating that he let us sit at the bar 45 minutes before the place opened. We quickly ordered the Cava, which he highly recommended, and it was perfect — light enough for a before dinner drink but still has the kick you need after a long day at work. The place is kind of small — it really only holds about 5 four-person tables and a full seating at the bar, but it’s definitely worth checking out. The wait staff is so friendly and was always checking in on us. The ambiance is cozy, which was perfect for a freezing rainy day, with exposed brick and a chalk specials board. Even if you’re coming just for a drink I would definitely ask for food recommendations. We were just looking for a cheese plate, but after talking to the waiter he convinced us to try the mushroom tacos and the goat cheese bruschetta with the pumpkin seeds. The tacos were unreal… the spices and preparation of the mushrooms makes them have the same consistency as grilled chicken, so it definitely filled me up. The bruschetta was amazing as well — definitely the perfect balance of moist and crunchy, and the cheese was out of this world. We were the only people there and the place wasn’t even open yet, but they were still more than willing to serve us, and the food came out within 10 minutes. I would absolutely come back to try the changing menu and some other wine selections!

Pros: Service and ambience Mushroom tacos Cons: Pork Belly with Rice Aioli Kale with Garlic and Oil The pork belly was fried and served on a bed of rice aioli which was absolutely disgusting. Now I know this may be a nouveau way of cooking, but I would have appreciated the waiter explaining that the dish was an oddball on an otherwise straightforward menu. Or have the menu be more descriptive. Overall, there’s so much good food on the west side that I don’t think I’d come by for seconds.

I have to admit I’m a total sucker for small plates places, especially when I’m on a date. As sappy as it sounds, I love the romance of picking plates together and then sharing them. This place makes it all the better because it pairs its unbelievable delicious food with a very intimate atmosphere(I would be surprised if they have more than 20 seats) and excellent staff. What could be a better way to start your Saturday night? We sat at the bar, and the bartender(sommelier seems like a bit too pretentious of a word for this atmosphere, but that’s really what he was) was absolutely fantastic. He knew everything there was to know about all the wines he had, often having a personal story about where and when he discovered a particular bottle. He even seemed to know everything about each of the menu items. Everything we had was delicious, but I want to note that you must order the Brussels sprouts. I’ll admit that I have a thing for Brussels sprouts, but these are exceptional. They are roasted to perfection, with crispy outsides and flavorful insides. They’re served with a squash and lime purée, creating a unique and inventive flavor. We went for dinner at a relatively early time on Saturday before a show. By the time we left, it was starting to get more crowded. I would recommend calling and making a reservation(you can reserve even spots at the bar), especially if you are planning on going during a busy time.
