$ 10 credit card minimum at a coffee shop is ridiculous. Coffee isn’t very good and the food is all natural and tastes like bark. Don’t waste your time

Quaint place on the Upper East Side that may be hard to notice, but well worth it. Coffee was strong and the place quirky. Good stuff.

Nice, warm ambiance. Good place to read a book and eat a baked good. Good service. Didn’t like their latte and will not go there again for their drinks. 10 dollar card minimum. No plug points or wifi means it’s a good reading nook but not meant for working.

Java Girl is super cute definitely does not look like it belongs on the UES. I was recommended to check this place out a few weeks ago by a colleague at work. As soon as you walk in you smell all the delicious coffee. It’s about $ 2.50 for a large cup of coffee which isn’t terrible in this neighborhood. They have daily specials on coffee flavors. I highly recommend trying their Chocolate Raspberry and the Blackberry Cream if it’s available. I have not tried their pastries but they look tasty. They also have a $ 10 credit card minimum, so either bring cash or buy a bag of their coffee.

Cute hipster style coffee bean seller. Dim lights, vintage wooden tables. Don’t see outlets. Good place to daydream.

really liked the loose leaf tea selection. large/small are the same price ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ had an almond croissant and it was good. most of all the whole place is cute and cozy, if only people can shut up and keep quiet it’d be perfect for reading.

Cute coffee shop and good coffee. This place is tiny and cozy. They have a few choices of coffee and their special brews are always the best. There treats are very pricey. Love sitting outside on the bench in the morning.

I used to be really intimidated by my boss when I first joined the team. But when I saw him lighten up while he drank from his Java Girl mug everyday, you know that 1) he’s actually great to work with and has a sense of humor, and 2) Java Girl must have some heck of a great coffee if he’s willing to drink from a mug that says«Java Girl, so bold, so exotic.(yadayada)». So yes, it is true. Java Girl serves the best coffee in the neighborhood!

Java Girl may have the best Java on the Upper East Side. The smell when walking in is intoxicating; pure Java heaven. The staff is great, always in a great mood.

This place is so cute and unique. The UES does not have places like this. The space is more important to me than what they actually sell. The few times I’ve been here I honestly have just taken away how the space makes me feel. So defer to other reviewers for food and drink quality. Just know that it’s worth going to, if only to lift your spirits. This is a good place to meet a friend for a quick coffee. It’s too small and cramped for studying or a long, drawn-out catch up with a friend. There’s a 10 dollar credit card minimum, so always carry cash, or treat your friend to a drink :)

I have just had a weekend of «meh» places and this was one of them. I don’t mean this place was bad necessarily, but just read my review. I always drove past this place on my way back from New Jersey and it seemed so cool that I had to try it. The inside does look pretty cool — it’s decorated with their wide variety of teas, coffee, and random photographs. I was also super excited to see their coffee/espresso beverage menu because it was a little more than just the standard stuff. My boyfriend got a mint mocha and I had a regular mocha. Both, unfortunately, were very bland. I could barely taste any mocha and he could barely taste any mint or mocha. The espresso itself was ok I think, but the barista also over steamed the milk. I couldn’t believe how bland it was considering I had such high expectations. They also had some goodies(pastries, chocolate confections, etc.). We bought these chocolate covered blueberries which were awesome and probably the saving grace of this place. As I mentioned, I really liked the atmosphere and wouldn’t have mind hanging out there for a bit if we could have. Perhaps we had an inexperienced barista so I’ll have to give this place another try.

When my interviewer suggested hosting the interview here, my first thought was: «Well fuck, I don’t know how to order coffee.» Decaffeinated, espresso, soy, and a dash of what? This is all foreign to my tongue. To amplify my fear, I skimmed through reviews to learn that not only was it a coffee shop, it was self-serve coffee. My next thought was: «Well fuck, I don’t know how to make coffee.» Of course, I am not giving Java Girl three stars for my inexperience with coffee, because, praise Jesus, there are other options – silly me for thinking they only served coffee. But you might just want to stick with their coffee(I will assume it is better) as the oatmeal smoothie I ordered tasted like mediocrity and regret. Considering this place is located in the Upper East Side, it really shouldn’t have been a surprise to me that my drink was five dollars. However, I paid that much for something I could have easily made myself with two packets of Quaker oatmeal, because that’s what it was: diluted oatmeal in a cup. I mean, it was a decent drink, and it did warm my hands relatively quickly on such a cold day, but it wasn’t worth it. That’s eighteen packets of Quaker oatmeal, people.

This cozy women run refuge has soulful atmosphere in spades, from the colorful furniture, to the family photos on the wall, to the flowers. The morning Joe came in two strengths, and the lighter Copenhagen blend was just perfect, restrained, balanced and energizing. The apricot Danish was also perfect, light, super fresh and only lightly sweetened. Gemütlich!

Java Girl is a small and cozy coffee shop more appropriate described as hipster than not. They have a good assortment of caffeinated drinks, including several iced tea options. If you like croissants, oh my goodness, you must try theirs. It’s perfectly flaky on the outside without being crispy. The inside is buttery, doughy goodness. Just the way I like it. I’m drooling as I write this. I am no expert on coffee, so I can’t speak to their coffee quality, but their mocha iced coffee was yummy, and my friend said her hibiscus iced tea was quite good. I wouldn’t recommend Java Girl as a study spot. It’s too noisy for that. Patrons converse freely in normal volumes. But it is very comfortable for a date or for catching up with friends. There are large comfy cushions on bench seats and a scatter of about 4 regular café tables with chair pairs. They also have outdoor seating. I believe they have a $ 10 credit card minimum. They sell a variety of coffee beans in big burlap sacks(so granola!) and the entire coffee shop smells like coffee bean heaven. I will definitely be back for the ambiance and I will schedule my next girlfriend catchup date here!

Nice to have an old school coffee shop amidst the smattering of starbucks’. The iced cappuccino is far better(and richer) than Starbucks.

In a world of starbucks and dunkin donuts on every other corner this place is a breath of fresh air people! Funky little shop with a few tables crammed in and a couple of lounge chairs outside. The iced coffee is perfect, as is the blackberry iced tea. The hot coffee is self serve and they have an assortment, I go for the strongest. The pastries are nice, in particular the pear or apple. The croissants are flakey and buttery. I often will buy a plain croissant and a container of their very delish chicken salad and make myself a sandwich ;) The ladies who own the place are so nice and they take pride in their shop, it’s so cute. They giftwrap really nicely if you want to make a gift of coffee or tea. Be forewarned credit minimum is $ 10. Since I frequent the place(and rarely carry cash) I bought myself a gift card and refill it via my credit or debit card. ;)

This place has a nice atmosphere in that it reminds me of my pre-bar days upstate drinking tons of coffee and smoking cigs at open mic nights. The lighting is low, and it isn’t so slick and clean like other Manhattan spots. All of this is very refreshing in a sadly fading New York world. The cookies are good, too. And the hard boiled eggs on the counter, I like those. That said, the coffee here makes gas station coffee taste like a dream. The coffee here es no bueno. The coffee is self service and burnt from sitting on hot plates all day. It is no better in the morning. The beans are no good. No good people, no good at all. McD’s coffee beats this sludge by a long shot.

Charming, cozy, warm = cramped. For the sake of courtesy, stay away if you have just eaten a monster burrito or hit up an unlimited brunch, because the tables and chairs barely fit, let alone the people. After downing several cups of tea, I was dying for a bathroom but there just didn’t seem to be enough space for one. Barista was a bit stiff and seemed to have a problem explaining what loose tea leaf was, but maybe I was just having problems digesting my monster carnitas burrito and couldn’t understand basic English. Also, do not get the egg salad sandwich with dill on croissant. Utterly flavorless. The dill was nowhere to be found. I know cilantro gets a bad rep because certain members of the populace think it tastes like bitter soap, but on the whole, spices are our friends! Also, I’m sorry to the guy whose coat got splattered on when I tripped over my feet and spilled half of my $ 3 hot chocolate everywhere. It looked really expensive. I was going to offer to pay for the dry cleaning but you huffed and packed everything up in a hurry, and then I got to sit on your nicely warmed-up cushion, so I like to think everything balanced out in the end. For me.

A cozy little neighborhood coffee shop in a city where there is a Starbucks on every block, I find this to be a great spot for lazing away a weekend morning. Their coffee is strong enough to wake me up(there is a strong and a mild option for the café au lait), and their chai is on the spicier side. The seats along the windows are lined with cushions, and provide a perfect place to while away the hours with a hot beverage and a stroopwafel or a biscotti, and to «unwittingly» overhear your neighbors’ conversations. They have a $ 10 minimum for credit card payment(VISA, MC and AMEX), but will accept credit cards for a lower amount if you agree to a $ 1 surcharge. They also offer a Java Girl prepaid card, which you can use for your purchases here; and if you put $ 20 on the card upon initial purchase, you get a free coffee.
