Irina Reyzelman, DDS

First, the staff here is very friendly and accommodating. Getting appointments at the time I need one has always been easy. However, the reason I see a dentist is for the dental work. Here’s where I have had problems with Beautiful Smiles Dental (the other name for this office).
In my case, when the work required is more than a simple cleaning (i.e. fillings, crowns, root canals, etc.), I have had to return to them after the work was «completed» to have it redone or tweaked due to extended periods of pain. I know this sometimes happens with dentistry, but it never did before I came here. They have been very accommodating with doing the updates at no cost, but this is a major inconvenience, not to mention who wants to be in pain for no reason? I have since found another dentist where I don’t have these issues. I also agree with another poster that it is best to get a pre authorization for ANY work you have done at any medical/​dental office. We can’t blame someone else if we don’t ask the price before we get the work done.

Decent dentist but please ask all the questions about your co-​pay to avoid any disagreements at the end.

I went to Irina Reyzelman’s office when I first moved to NY in 2005 as she was on the list of dentists provided by my insurance company.
I had a very, very poorly done, fast cleaning. Despite the fact that I had only 1 cavity as an adult prior to visiting, I was told that I had several cavities that needed to be filled by Irina ASAP.
I unfortunately allowed her to fill one of these «cavities». The filling was poorly done and was causing me a great deal of pain since it was way higher than the rest of my tooth surface. She said she would fix this and surreptitiously tried to double bill my insurance. When I confronted her about this, she started to yell at me and claimed she would reject me as a patient.
Less than 3 years later the filling fell out.
If you like having healthy teeth and would like to avoid being scammed, I would avoid this place.
After visiting Irina, I have had zero cavities filled. My teeth seem to be doing fine.

I have to make something clear here — I was never treated by Irina the supposedly «hot» Russian dentist, so this review is NOT about her. Rather, it was another dentist at the same office, and I have since learned that this office goes by the name of either «Irina Reyzelman DDS» or «Beautiful Smiles» or some shit like that. So I am NOT barking up the wrong tree here. Any way —
If you feel that you haven’t been robbed blind by a dentist office in a while and feel the need, THIS IS THE PLACE YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR.
Over the past couple of years, I have been surprised by this place at least 3 times with a bill of several hundred dollars, after I had been given no clue has to how much each procedure would cost. The conversation went something like:
ME: «So how much do I owe you for today?»
RECEPTION: «That’d be $ 825.»
ME: «WHAT!!! Why didn’t you warn me beforehand!!!»
RECEPTION: «Well, you didn’t ask.»
And then, they topped themselves last time — after having to pay $ 825, I got a letter from them saying the insurance co would not cover the other 50% on the crown work done, so I owe them another $ 825, for a total of $ 1650. Without being given any clue beforehand as to how much the procedure would cost, I was expecting to pay a total of a couple of hundred dollars. Instead, I am supposed to pay them a total of $ 1650.
Apparently they have never heard of receiving pre-​authorization from insurance companies for procedures. If they did, I would have known beforehand that the procedure would cost me nearly $ 2000, which would have made me think hard about going ahead with the procedure. But of course, they don’t want to take THAT risk. Their motto might as well be, «JUST DO THE PROCEDURE, WE’LL GET PAID BY INSURANCE OR THE PATIENT, WHO CARES FROM WHICH!»
The final result here is that I am now being harassed by a collection agency, which may impact my credit score.
IMAGINE — you get ripped off by a dental office, and as a result of non-​payment, your credit score goes down and you may not be able to get a mortgage loan.

FRAUD. Now have debt collectors calling me for a canceled appointment, an appointment canceled after it became clear to me that this was a fraudulent practice. If I had more time I would file suit and make sure this office was shutdown and the partners thrown in jail. There are tons of dentists out there, NO reason to risk/​take the chance on using these crooks

I’m surprised to see all the negative reviews! I’ve been going to Irina’s practice since 2004 and have been very happy. I know everyone there by name now, and they know me as well and are always asking about my job and my kids, etc. They are great about follow-​up and making appointments and rearranging appointments when I need. I’ve also never had any issues with billing. I’ve recommended this practice to many colleagues and still highly recommend them.

Heed my advice and DO NOT try this dental office — you will regret it.
This is the worst dental practice I have ever been to. EVER! Aside from sub-​par dental work, this office will erroneously bill you for services they have never performed, will ignore your phone calls, will harass you on the phone and will send bogus charges in your name to a collection agency. Irina Reyzelman is plain dishonest. Unless you want to add a headache to your toothache, find a better dentist.

UPDATE: I was just contacted by Dr Reyzelman personally, who explained the fee structure, and was very cool about explaining where my charges came from. At the time I wrote my review, I felt my complaints were valid, and I still do. BUT, the fact that Dr Reyzelman takes these things seriously and addressed them with me personally is a major chip in her practice’s favor, so I’ve updated the review to 3 stars, and I’m taking back my claim that she is «shady», since a shady person wouldn’t have confronted me about this.

The office DID submit the claim to Delta Dental for my last visit to this office, but after 2 months of back-​and-​forth calls with Delta Dental, the problem is finally getting resolved thanks to Dr. Rezeylman. It turns out she was on maternity leave (NOT on vacation like I was told) for a year and a half and the office went down hill in that time. Dr. Reyzelman contacted me personally and she’s taken full responsibility for a lot of the mishaps that’s occurred while she was out– even though it sounds like some of the events were beyond her control.
The 3 stars is what I would have originally given this office if the whole insurance situation didn’t happen.

My teeth and gums are still sensitive from my experience here. There is one very friendly hygienist who was lovely to me but the rest of the staff and Dr Reyzelman look like they need a good scrub. Irina is rude to her staff in front of patients and it’s painted an horrific bright yellow which is not the type of atmosphere you expect in a clinic. I am a very nervous patient and I got lectured and bullied as if I was a two year old child. Do not go.

Unless you want to have your GOOD teeth drilled into, be conviced you need the most expensive braces know to man, and for frivilous claims to be billed to your insurance.
Here’s the scoop:
I went to this dentist under the recomendation from coworkers that it was OK (just for a checkup/​cleaning). After a piss poor cleaning, she precedid to tell me that I FIVE cavities. Please note; I have had two cavities my entire life (both in my baby teeth). So I obviously found this to be very odd.
So after doing a google search and finding these reviews, I made an appointment at a local dentist that I know is well respected and has allways been straightforward and honest with me about my teeth. After a quick checkup he tells me I have no cavities. NONE!!! I quote, «I can tell you, with out a doubt that you have no cavities in your mouth.»
This means this CRAZY lady was going to numb me up, drill into my good teeth, put me through 5 cavities of pain, and leave me with 5 fillings in my teeth to live with for the rest of my life.
Not only is this wrong, its downright scary!!!
What is healthcare coming to! This was a wake-​up call to me that it is getting to a point in America were you can’t even trust our «respected professionals’ «word.
Oh, and she also wanted to fit me for Invisiline braces wich she said would be covered by my insurance. She said, oh it only cost 70 some bucks to get fitted and you can decide if you want to do it later on… No f’ing way!!!
Note: I have report this all to the ADA, so maybe none of you will have to worry about this crazy woman in the future!

I wish I had googled Irina Reyzelman before going to her for a checkup/​cleaning. Unfortunately, I didn’t and had to suffer 3 horrendous experiences. Her dentistry skills suck, her office sucks, her office staff sucks and the freebies (yes, i did get some) sucked.
Appointment #1:
I decided to go to this office because it is next to my office building. The dental hygienist complained about the poor job performed 6 months ago by my previous hygienist. I thought to myself, «ok, at least i can trust these guys to do a better job…» Then she tells me that I needed scaling, which I thought was performed on my teeth 6 months ago, too. After all of this, Reyzelman said that she is going to put some sealant on my teeth during the next visit. The office receptionists then made 2 more appointments for me for the scaling, one for each side of the mouth. They sent me out with a no-​name purple toothbrush wrapped in plastic wrap, a small spindle of waxed floss and a «soothing macadamia» chapstick.
Appointment #2:
My appointment was at 9am, I showed up at 9:10 because I am just late all the time. No one answered the door when I showed up. I stood outside the office knocking, ringing and phoning the office for 15 minutes. Eventually, at 9:30, the other doctor for this office showed up and was surprised to see me outside. She said, «Nobody is here??» Ummm… «No sh! t?» It turns out that they had rescheduled me without telling me.
Anyway, when I did go back for the 2^nd appointment, my «sealants» turned out to be FILLINGS!!! They sat me down and drilled into my cavity-​free teeth and did a couple of fillings. Of course, I was responsible with this bill because my insurance doesn’t completely cover for filling AND the anaesthesia. I get the sense that they just wanted to get a lot of $$ from me and my insurance company.
Appointment #3:
I am ashamed to admit that I went back for the 3^rd appointment to avoid the trouble of finding another dentist. I figured that it was easier for this one to finish the job they started…
In conclusion… Even though some may think Irina is a hot Russian, AVOID letting her and her crew deal with your teeth.
