They got me in the same day, and I was in desperate need of a haircut. I have a very short, female cut, but Giovanni took his time. Some stylists will rush through a short haircut, trimming quickly and finishing in a few minutes. With Giovanni each snip was thoughtful and he did not let me out of the chair until it was just right. He also showed me what techniques to use to get it looking the same way(the hardest thing about getting a new haircut, in my opinion), and suggested I come back the next day or next week if I have trouble getting it right. Creatively, the cut is great and very versatile. By downtown NYC prices, I thought it was pretty reasonable($ 50 for a cut) and probably a little over a half hour of their time. I definitely recommend this place and I will be going back. One thing though — the name is Hirsute — not Hairsuite :)

After walking by it for years, went for a blowout before a wedding. Excellent job. She spent 40 min on that and the followed with a flat iron. $ 30! Just great.

I may upgrade this after I’ve been a few times, I don’t expect that a stylist gets to know you/your hair/look, the first time around! I had a very pleasant experience, and ambiance is VERY important to me. It was relaxing, with great jazz(young Ella I believe), and Giovanni is charming without being intrusive. He just lets you enjoy the calming experience. The haircut was not overly fussy, and he paid attention asking me how I usually style it. He didn’t give me a crew cut and the conversation was quite interesting since he’s a real art connoisseur. The place is a mini museum really… almost can’t wait to go back! The prices seem very reasonable esp. considering they’re right on Wall St.

The washing of the hair is not good. There’s this woman there who always has a frown and looks very unhappy. She splashes water everywhere and makes a mess down my shirt. I also don’t like the shampoo they use. But I like my hairdresser, and I go at least once a week to get my hair blown out.

Absolutely the best place to go for color in the city! Giovanni is creative and realistic. He sees what will work with your skin tone and what will look alright int he long run. He also works with a paintbrush to the hair rather than foils when doing high lights so the effect is a lot more natural, even when choosing a dramatic color. My hair never looks streaky or visiibly highlighted. He also handles dyes very well. I dont find his hair cutting skills to be as amazing. I don’t feel that this is the place for cutting edge hair cuts or thoughtful decisions on layers for one’s face, but just the coloring is worth a trip downtown.

Giovanni does a nice job, especially creatively. My first time in my hair had gotten kind of long and I didn’t know what I wanted. He gave me a haircut that I had never had before, promised to change it if I didn’t like it. It looked great, and I got the same cut next time. I have since moved on to a shorter haircut, but I still follow Giovanni’s basic style advice. I have had a lot of $ 100 haircuts where the stylist really didn’t know what to do to suit my style, and gave me something that didn’t suit me. Giovanni has been great that way, and he only charges $ 40.
