Acceptable food for carry out. Terrible customer service. Chef is nice, front of house cashier was not amenable. Main issue stems from inconsistencies with advertised menu sale(20% off through 8⁄15). I was confused, it’s February. I inquired about the sale but the cashier said it ended 8⁄15. Never mind it’s February 2016(a full 6 months later), she refused to accept the idea of printing accurate paper menus. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the food, her attitude and refusal to accept the inconsistency was obscene. Couldn’t stand the attitude. Again, decent food, poor customer service. Deserves the B rating.

Nope. We’re not overly dramatic reviewers but most of our order went into the garbage, we ended up just ordering a pizza immediately afterwords. First time ever having to do that. Food was disgusting. Duck buns we’re all fat. 3 Star dumplings spit out first bite rest thrown away. Wife smelled and wouldn’t try. General Tso’s bland chicken in vinegar molasses threw it out after a few bites. Drunk Noodles looked disgusting. Chicken looked boiled without sauce/seasoning. Ate a few bites and threw it out. Stay away from any place that has multiple cuisines(e.g. Chinese, Thai, Japanese), in other words this place. Sorry. Dislike having to be so negative but unfortunately our order was unacceptable.

[Looks at menu… remembers that it didn’t have sushi or chinese food prior] That’s Wassup: Hey, did you change your menu? Female: No, we have Japanese, Chinese and Asian. That’s Wassup: Yeah you did. Anyway, gimme the pepper and salt squid and roti. [More customers enter] Customer #1: Hey, did you change your menu? Female: No, we have Japanese, Chinese and Asian. Customer #2, #3: Yo, let’s go somewhere else, they don’t have the same things as before. ** Don’t front. Y’all changed your menu. **

«Fusion? … If you say so.» This place is one of the reasons why I hate this«fusion» craze that has been going on for years. Typically both(or more cuisines) are screwed up. The place looks more like an Mexican tequila bar than an Asian restaurant, with a large rectangular bar/table. I thought that was kind of different and cool. Here is where the struggle comes in. I ordered the squid and rice for about 15 bucks for dinner and I have to say that I was a little disappointed. Do not get me wrong; the food was edible but it was barely one baby step above Chinese take out. The plate appeared to be thrown together with no care, the sauce(whatever it was) was waaaaay too sweet, and there about 5 or 6 calamari rings. Way too pricey for what was served. I also ordered the shimp/pork/mushroom shumai, which came AFTER my main dish arrived. I found the shumai to be really greasy. You know, like the ones from your local Chinese American take out joint. The service was ok. Although, the one waitress did not seem to want to be there. Then again, many people do not want to be at their jobs. I will say that Hawkers appears to have a decent lunch menu, which is way cheaper than dinner menu. In terms of dining, you should go to the Chinese takeout place that is a few doors down. The food would be cheaper and it would taste the same. Perhaps, the sushi is better than cooked items on the menu.

Such an awkward place to have dinner… with the name of the restaurant plus the strange bar set-up and wall paintings, I think they would do much better if they rebranded to an American bar or even Mexican tequila bar rather than some Asian-fusion restaurant. That being said, the boyfriend and I stopped by here as we were craving sushi and the happy hour deals caught our eye. Free beer if you order $ 16+(and sushi dinners are always around this price.), otherwise $ 3 beers! Probably the only pleasant part of the meal. The waitress(the only one in the entire restaurant besides us… so awkward.) seemed really unhappy to be there. Most importantly, my sushi was SOGGY. Something about the rice was sticky and soggy at the same time, and almost sour as the sushi vinegar overpowered the delicacy of the rice. The salmon sashimi and sushi was also very mediocre, and the seaweed wrapping on my rolls were chewy. No thanks!

Slightly less than mediocre food, tiny portions. For dinner actually just got two bites worth. Just a less than satisfactory Asian fusion” restaurant. Definitely recommend skip.

Order the pork buns! Very good price for lunch specials, but if you arrived after 4pm you can order the sushi rolls special which come with miso soup or seaweed salad, both which are great! The service was good, but sometimes a they are busy, specially around dinner time with many delivery and pick ups! They are very quick and polite.

This is definitely a place you want to visit if you find yourself in east village looking for a watering hole for happy hour. Their deals on Sake and Sapporo are dirt cheap and could hardly be beat. And to top it all off, the staff is refreshingly quick and the service is really good. The actual restaurant itself is a little small, but I’d say the overall vibe made up for it. Good music, good food, and the TV was on the Food Network channel which was definitely a good move. 5 stars seems appropriate.

Saw the Happy Hour Specials as we walked by, and thought we’d give it a try. Tried 3 things on the menu: the roti with curry sauce, the tom yum soup, and sangria. Totaling around $ 12. The waitress seemed hesitant to offer us the Happy Hour Specials even though we still had half an hour left. The roti roll was flaky and delicious, with a coconut curry dipping sauce. The soup was more sour than expected, but had two shrimp and was packed with veggies. The sangria was lychee infused, but was too sweet and syrupy. Wouldn’t return, but wasn’t bad considering the price.

I’ve generally enjoyed their duck buns so I came in for happy hour because they are supposed to me $ 1 – 2 per order… well they are $ 2 each and have a limit of 2 snack per beer/drink which is also not a deal, 1 option only. Considering the owner waited on me I can bluntly say, she is ducking rude and has no clue what she is doing And your daughter who fetched my beer because you were fighting with creditors it def. not old enough to be working behind the bar! She’s in high school!

I don’t consider this place exciting enough to make it my Friday or Saturday night dinner plan, but I’ve ordered takeout several times and it’s good. It’s still hard to figure out if they truly are striving to be authentic — based on the food, it seems more like they are trying to use southeast Asian flavors to cook whatever they want. I’ve never tried the Chinese fare or the sushi, but some of the southeast Asian dishes are quite tasty. I like their coconut rice and chicken boxes, as well as their curry noodles and their Thai pan fried noodles. The avocado salad is listed on the sushi menu, and that’s also good. Their roti bread is fun — it comes with Thai red curry dipping sauce and they use it make little sandwiches that have a nicely spiced potato filling. One thing they could improve with is their dumplings. The crystal wrapped ones are strange and the bright red sauce they come with is not appetizing. Overall, I like getting takeout from this place because their menu has variety, the flavors are good, and they deliver quickly. That’s it!

Ordered delivery and will probably try it again for something different since their menu is so large, but only liked half of what we ordered. Took an average 30 – 40 minutes to arrive. Green curry was WAY spicier than I would ever expect green curry to be. Way too spicy to eat. Pad see ew was a little greasy but still very good.

We wanted sushi and just randomly walked in. I liked the quirky non-traditional atmosphere and the sushi was good – better than expected. Fast, fresh, nice. No sports on the TV – enjoyed the change. Easy, good selections on the menu, and fresh – what more could you want in sushi?

Bad bad bad. Not recommended. The food tasted bad. I received sprite instead of water. When I called she told me they don’t have water(who doesn’t have water??).

Asian Fusion is a stretch. This is Chinese American food with a few poorly done versions of dishes from other cuisines. But then I kind of feel that that’s what a lot of Asian Fusion is anyway. The roti canai was passable. The General Tso’s chicken was actually cooked pretty nicely, not too dry and not too tough, but it didn’t taste anything like General Tso’s to me. The shumai were godawful, but the sauce they came in was even worse. They’re not shrimp shumai, the menu doesn’t describe them, but they were huge and filled with pork… possibly. Maybe chicken, maybe both. The sauce was bright red. I was drinking and I couldn’t eat it. My friend who was pretty far gone looked at me and very seriously said it was one of the worst things he had put in his mouth in a long time. Yes, yes, that’s what she said, and jokes were made. But really, this was rank. We ordered from them because they were open so late, so that might just be the crowd they’re catering to.

This review is for their delivery: I’ll start with the food itself. Why does my lunch taste like dessert? I think they used terriyaki sauce for the noodles because this pad thai is SWEET. Not savory-sweet, SWEET. I feel like I’m eating twizzlers out of a bowl. It’s offensive to say the least. It’s bright red, sugary, and this«shrimp» pad thai had only 2 pieces of shrimp. It’s also the smallest portion I’ve ever gotten for the most I’ve ever paid. Their Tom yum soup… it’s so oily it coats my spoon. There is a visible layer of oil floating on the top. gross. Not to mention that it took them 1.5 hours to get this to me. And I live 10 blocks away. SKIPIT. Never ordering here again.

This place is small. They have ONE large rectangular bar table and chairs around it. I was at the dentist’s near by and found this place with a reasonable lunch special. $ 6 and some change for Thai lunch special and $ 8 and some change for the sushi lunch special. 1⁄5 for the service. They only had one girl working the whole restaurant. I didn’t understand why we received such bad service especially since we were the only ones there at that time. She didn’t even get us water or bother to ask if we needed anything. We had to walk to her to place the order as she was on her phone near the register. 5⁄5 for the food! The miso soup was HUGE and the sushi was amazing! I got the California roll & spicy tuna roll. Over all its a small place, great for lunch and if u don’t really care about the service or the ambiance.

Hawkers has a pretty interesting storefront. It looks like a bar on the outside with its deep red color design and feels like a bar with its around-the-bar seating arrangement. I’ve passed by this place several times not sure of what to expect, and after being lured in by its lunch special during one visit, I’m happy to say I’m a fan. The place isn’t big — there are no tables and no wait staff — you’re seated around bar-style. One or two staff members take your orders and man the register. The lunch special are great and include Thai, Malaysian, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine. It’s almost like an all-star menu of top Asian dishes. I usually get the Drunken Noodles, which come with soup. The noodles smell and taste great, have some basil, chicken, and green peppers in them, and have a bit of a kick as well. For the soup I would recommend the Tom Yum soup, which is super sour but very aromatic and tasty. The Lunch Special is cheaper if you dine-in, plus they have a single huge TV to watch news or whatever. They also serve drinks, so I may come back to see what dinner or HH is like. Great spot.

I dig Hawkers. I really do. It’s a sure, safe bet for some good drinks and awesome Asian fusion bites to full-sized dishes inspired by Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese cuisine. It’s chill, it’s casual, it’s cool, and can easily draw any type of crowd. Their location is great, slightly off the beaten path, but close enough to all the action of Union Square. While the atmosphere is fun, the food is very very good. Three thumbs up for this little hidden gem that I wonder why it has received mostly average ratings. First time at Hawkers, it was super chill, and hardly too busy, even for a Friday night. For a quick drink or two and a few small plates/tapas, Hawkers is perfect for a casual date or meetup with friends. They also have a happy hour running until 7PM for those looking for a solid after-work spot. The décor of this place is different and unique; artsy, urban with an underground beat. Graffiti style paintings of people silhouettes adorn red walls. The layout of the space is basically one long room with a rectangular bar in the center. The layout doesn’t lend itself to too much individual privacy though, which is something to note if you are looking for a more intimate gathering. They have a full bar and a selection of fine, good beers, Asian as well as domestic. A plus is that they have some less common beers, such as San Miguel(beer of the Philippines). For food, my guest and I went with a variety of small plates to share — Duck Buns, Indian Roti, and Satay Bean Curd. Each of these small dishes were meticulously plated and very delicious. The duck bun is a must-have; cucumber, scallions, and duck with hoisin spread served in a soft, steamed mantou bun. Indian Roti is delicious; a small piece of warm, soft bread served with a curry chicken, onion and potato based dipping sauce. Satay Bean Curd was a hit; open-faced tofu stuffed with cooked vegetables and chili peanut sauce. These plates are small but a perfect portion for sharing. Prices for these ‘snacks’ run relatively cheap from $ 5 for 2 pc. and up. All in all, Hawkers is a really chill spot sure to satisfy. It’s perfect for happy hour and some quick bites. It’s not set up for intimate meet-ups though, but the open-faced layout and graffiti décor makes for a hip, casual atmosphere. The food is surprisingly very tasty and rather inexpensive. I definitely plan for a return trip to Hawkers soon.
