Very sad after all these years this store is closing. They closed about a year ago to do a major renovation and restock of merchandise. It did not help. I guess the days of your local card shop are gone. With ecards gaining popularity it’s hard for them to stay afloat. Sorry to see you go. This store was a favorite of mine when I visit Rockefeller Center.

Modern technology is ensuring that card exchanges will become a lost art one day; especially for the generation that feels an e-card or text message suffices compared to a hand written note. That’s why I love Hallmark as nothing compares to opening an envelope and reading a well wish or shared sympathy. [Stepping off my soap box] This location is stocked not only with a wide array of greeting cards but mini gifts, stuffed animals, wrapping paper, bows and balloons. It’s a GOLD star store which also means you get credit for your card purchases which generate coupons towards future purchases. Customer service personnel can be seen walking throughout the store for direction or suggestions.

Its pretty small place but has plenty of things you would need for a last minute gift or a card for a co-worker. It is one of the last store in that lonely hall that used to be busting with businesses. I remember the McDonalds, the Soup place, Ciones(hair solon), and the news stand. Now, only the Hallmark stands alone in this empty space. This is not an easy store to find. You must walk down the hall pass the Duane Read and Chase bank, heading like to the exit stairs. You must go throught the turnstile and the hallmark is there on your left. This place gets most of its customers from the people who works in the building. We are really the people who knows this place exist.

This Hallmark is tucked far far farrrr into the depths of Rockefeller Plaza, so don’t be discouraged if you’ve already descended several segments of steps, turned many corners and have already asked a few fellow shoppers where the HECK this Hallmark store is. **Hint: get out at the Rockefeller stop off the subway… you’ll hit it as you’re walking into the plaza. Otherwise, GOODLUCK. Terribly obscure location, but still has all the goodies inside once you find it. Hallmark also carries a whole row of Christmas ornaments — a little on the expensive side(compared to other stores in the area carrying ornaments) and not too out of the ordinary. They carry a lot of small wooden ones. Be careful of the hours here. They close earlier than other Hallmark stores.

This Hallmark has never let me down despite their outrageous Midtown prices and apathetic customer service. Its for the simple fact they have some of the best selection for cards and the most variety in terms of gift baskets, balloons, wrappings, etc. Its not the easiest to find as its embedded deep within Rockefeller and the hours are not the most convenient either as they can close somewhat early. A side note is that the place usually smells good and the air conditioning is just chilly enough not to be overwhelmingly cold. Bonus points for the nice store layout and well categorized items making things easy to find.
