guy isn’t nice. Lamb in the lamb+rice was not cooked properly(was still –blood– red underneath all those spices. Too bad as it is quite inexpensive for the size.

A friend of mine lives near the cart and I visit often, which means I’ve eaten here a few times. Last time I went I thought the gyros seemed more expensive than I remember — turns out I was right! The guy looked at me, pegged me as a tourist and charged me $ 7 each for two gyros. Confirmed with the guys running the EXACT same cart the very next day and my friend who lives there that they were only $ 5 ea. When I mentioned it to the guys the next day they denied it, said it must have been a different cart(it wasn’t), etc. While $ 4 extra is not a ton of money, it irks me that this guy was so flippant about overcharging me. He even took the $ 20 I gave him(for a $ 14 tab), put it in his money box, and kept flipping the food without saying anything or giving me any change. When I told him I wanted my change he was like, «Yeah, yeah,» before he gave it to me. I might eat here again as the food was really yummy, but will make sure to ask upfront how much and ask clearly for change when I pay.

Price: cheap($ 5 for chicken over rice. Drinks are separate) Ambiance: lonely. well, it’s a food cart after all. LOL Taste: though it didn’t look or feel oily, it tasted oily. After couple of bites, I felt wee-bit sick, so I threw it out. I’m still feeling a little sick. I would not return to this cart, even for the cheap price.

I wouldn’t recommend ordering anything here unless there is completely nothing else available. The meat doesn’t taste good and the person that serves you is extremely inattentive: I said just tomatoes on my gyro and when I opened it I found onions. I guess«just» wasn’t clear enough. I hate to give this out, but if you want an amazing gyro, go to the corner of Water St & Maiden Lane. The guy there is very nice & friendly and he makes killer gyros(w/no onions, just tomatoes) :)

This cart is open late, I grabbed a falafel sandwich around 11:15 one evening because as I was walking back to my apartment after having some drinks, he was open. The falafel is nothing special, I have had better carts. The balls were just not heated up thoroughly and the partially wilted lettuce that turned in to cream beneath the tahini sauce was just not something that I experience with other vendors. Nice warm pita, but just an average falafel. I have eaten it twice and both times were about the same.

Tipped on vacation about these and probably the best street food I’ve ever had. The chicken over rice with the cucumber sauce was fantastic. and for $ 5 you can’t beat the value. I would eat from these everyday if they brought them to the west coast.

tasty and cheap for denizens of the financial district. if possible, i’d take away ½ a star for schedule unpredictability. best chicken over rice i’ve had from a street vendor. the chicken is kind of pulled, which i prefer to a bunch of big chunks, and tastes like it was marinated overnight in curry with onions. so tender and flavorful — not just big chunks of chicken on a bed of rice as so many other vendors tend to do! this chicken has a bit of an indian twist to it. i prefer the yellow rice to the spicy rice, as i find the spicy rice detracts from the flavor of the chicken. fries are mediocre(shoestring). fish was an unremarkable frozen breaded filet sort of thing. falafel is good. but really, the marinated chicken distinguishes this place from all the rest! supposedly present 7 days a week ’til 3am every night, but they disappeared for a month or so(around march, i think), and there have been times when i’ve had a huge craving on a saturday or sunday afternoon only to find that they were not there. as for sanitation/food poisoning — i see lines at all hours, which is a good sign for freshness, and they seem to run a clean ship. UPDATE — inspired by my own review, i visited today. much to my dismay, it seems the cart has changed hands, and the chicken/rice platter, while decent, is nothing to shout(or Unilocal) about(and it’s now $ 5 instead of $ 4). whereas the old one was 4 stars, i now only give this a 3 for slightly better than average halal cart food. and now i’ll go cry myself to sleep.

This place gets three stars for being open late and on weekends. In the Financial District, not much is. Another star goes to the food – yummy, huge gyros drenched in sauce(I had chicken, he had lamb) and pretty okay fries(we were hungover – shut up). Another star for the fact that this place had a line of five people on a Sunday evening. Risk of food poisoning must be very low indeed. Five stars go to this great little find of the sort you Uptowners may take for granted, but is like food from Allah for us cart-deprived weekdays-only Downtown denizens.
